Oh I'm COMPLETELY intimidated by that distance too. I'm trying not to be. I just keep remembering crossing the finish line during my half and thinking "I'm so glad I'm done...just imagine if this was a full...you'd only be half way!"

Black bean brownies! They're delicious and if you serve them hot you can hardly tell the difference! NO gluten :) http://allrecipes.com/recipe/black-bean-brownies/ Sorry to hear about the diagnosis...I have Type I diabetes and diseases that affect nutrition are always tough. :(

Yeah-I kept looking at the mileage. I think part of it is that my blood sugar started to drop partway though. Someone earlier mentioned building up my mileage again via treadmill...and I think I agree. It's so totally different running on the treadmill as opposed to outside. Fortunately my long run is on Saturday and I can…

I love LOVE radiolab! I also like "freakonomics"

Great advice. The marathon training plan I'm doing now only has one day of cross training and four days of running. Two rest days. I skipped a running day yesterday because my knee hurts and today I'm back at it...but was thinking about Elliptical instead of the treadmill (I find I am REALLY sore after the…

I don't skimp. I've cut back to using steamed 1% milk instead of half and half like I used to...it's ok but is not the same. I don't use sugar but right now I'm using part 1% milk and part eggnog to make an eggnog latte. French press always. I don't care. I have few things in life that I refuse to compromise on. Coffee is…

True-I mean as far as controlling pace-that is more challenging if you're running outside/on a track as opposed to a machine. I like the change in scenery, etc...and hills and such can change depending which route you choose to run. I'll have to "suck it up, buttercup" if I want to increase my mileage by fall...given that…

:( Boooooo.... And you're probably right. LoL. At least I can watch TV. I just wish my gym had invested in the ones that have a fan. Guess I can pick the one closest to the fans on the ceiling. And hydration helps. I just LOVE running outside though...especially being able to see how far I can go instead of...as you said,…

I just saw that "Friends" is now on Netflix...I can get lost for an hour-fortunately it's my shorter runs that I'd end up having to do on the treadmill...I'm just hoping that by the time I work my way up to 14+ miles the roads will clear up LoL :/ egads.
-
I had seen the interval training before but always opted for hills. I'll give that a try tomorrow! Not sure the ice will be clear by then, but maybe by this weekend for my long run :/

Well and honestly after the first mile or two you start to warm up. A good pair of gloves (thin but warm) is a must for running in cold weather. That and cold toes are two things I really can't stand. I mean your feet warm up after a while but the fingers? uuuggghhhh...*shudder*

Guess it also depends on where in Texas it is and also the day. I know in Montana we have that glorious desert heat...if you're in the shade or if it's in the morning/evening it's cool/comfortable/VERY run-able... But some days here in Maryland it's humid/muggy before the sun even comes up...and of course muggy has its own…

It depends on the exercise. I wear appropriate running shorts and tanks if the weather is warm or if it's in the gym. If I'm at the dance studio, I wear booty shorts and a sports bra-that is not to attract male attention as women are the only people there...but for safety and the ability to STICK to the pole...if you don't…

Ran 3.1 miles in the snow yesterday...3 inches of snow on the ground AND it was still snowing heavily. I still managed to maintain my average pace too! Booyah!
-
Honestly I perform better in colder temps than hot ones. Out here in the Mid Atlantic we get MISERABLE/muggy summers (if you're in Texas, I'm preaching to the choir)...I cannot tolerate the heat/humidity. I get winded and dehydrated very quickly and my muscles cramp. I'm a native Montanan so I'd much rather run in the cold.
-
Preach. If there was an indoor track somewhere around me I'd WAY rather do that than run on a stupid treadmill :(
-
Holy crap...#beastmode!

21 degrees (without wind chill). I ran yesterday and it was 23 and snowing...3 inches of snow on the ground. It was...interesting. I can tolerate the cold up to a point. When it gets into the single digits or teens...it almost steals your breath away... I'm probably going to run on the stupid "dreadmill" tomorrow because…

blogilates.com-she has some cardio and a lot of strength training as well. However, if you have never done Pilates before, you should talk to a doctor-it involves being on your back a lot. If you have a yoga mat (or you can get one for cheap), Cassey Ho does a lot of really fun exercises that keep you moving and don't get…

Especially for running: "Castle of Glass" by Linkin' Park OR "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (Puts a pep in my step :) )

Just start. I mean...I hated running about a year ago...the first half a mile was horrible. I was out of breath-reminded of what horrible shape I was in and felt pretty crappy. But I got to it every day. The hardest part was honestly just putting on my running shoes and going outside. Once I got started it became block by…

I know the more mature path is to ignore outrageous statements, like the one you made about eating kilograms of sugar. But I can't seem to help myself... As much as I like being called willfully ignorant...You made a claim that sugar is only turned into fat when consumed in kilogram amounts, a remark you later admitted was…

To some extent it may be impossible to get rid of your curves...I mean...depends on bone structure as well as actual fat/muscle %... I don't enjoy weights...I do strength training that doesn't involve weights but utilizes my own body weight. It's about finding something that works for you. When it comes down to it, if you…

Then asking for examples of people being bullies, trolling, etc...is a rather silly thing to ask for. If you're not new to the forums, then you should know that the forums are full of trolls and "my new vegan diet is the only way to eat" know it alls...

Try blogilates.com. It's Pilates-free videos you can do from home. She recently uploaded a new beginner workout calendar that I think I'm going to start tomorrow (even though I'm not a beginner to Pilates). I enjoy her videos because she's peppy and motivating. She also has her own line of workout gear and her workouts…
LOLwut?
Ooooh...or the other option, of course. Troll.

LoL-you MUST be new to the forums...seriously must be. If you haven't seen it yet, you must be new or never go on the forums... Patience, young padawan. Go forth-peruse the forms...many examples you shall find.

I know what you mean. Even legitimate questions are met with sarcasm, trolling, etc...unfortunately that's the forums for you (as they are now). Other forums spark debate and problems because as someone said earlier, many buy into diet myths or the same topics get posted over and over (which is inevitable due to new users…

OH...I'm rocking at taking care of my Type I...Last A1c was great and I'm able to run over 10 miles without crashing or stopping for a walk break.
