Congratulations! You are an inspiration! (As a side note, those cookies in your profile picture look wonderful. :-) )

Thank you everyone for the wonderful posts and ideas. Although I don't currently eat a lot of bread, many of your ideas have intrigued me to the point I will make some bread this weekend.

Thank you everyone for the information. Bump for later.

Adjust the monitor settings so they are not red anymore. But that aside, you know that it is just one day and not a lifetime. Look at your numbers for the week or two weeks and you'll see that they are not in the red over time.

I'm going to also recommend Couch to 5k (C25k) program. But before you start that, begin by walking if you haven't already. I would walk for a month or two before beginning a running regimen. That's what worked for me.

Great work and dedication. I wish you continued success.

First, congratulations on the new job. I travel quite a bit for my job. Finding time to exercise and even eating well are both challenges that go with the travel. Most hotels have a workout room with a treadmill, elliptical, bike that while not ideal do offer you an opportunity to get some cardio. There is always pushups,…

Fantastic! Keep up the great work and congratulations on your success so far.

Welcome choirmast! There are quite a few of us Clydesdales, as one friend has dubbed us, around MFP. I've been logging for 184 days so far and find the app and the site easy to use. Keep up the great work and let me know if I can be of any help.

Great idea, I'm going to try this.

I could not run and had never run. I started walking; day after day. Gradually adding distance as my endurance increased. Eventually I did the C25k. That is why I suggest you do the same thing. Walk a mile (or whatever you are comfortable with) tomorrow. Then the next day repeat that mile. Then the day after that. After a…

Who says burning calories can't be fun?

I agree that weight loss is more attributed to diet than to the C25k or any exercise. Exercise is important and does help and the improvement in overall health is also a benefit. Over the course of the eight weeks I did the C25k my weight dropped 20 pounds.

Sorry, I missed the post earlier. Here in New Mexico.

I spent about two months walking first. I gradually increased my mileage each week before I did the C25k program. I think it made the C25k easier. That being said, the way the C25k is set up you could begin the program and if you didn't finish one of the weeks just repeat that week until you were comfortable. Good luck…

I was never a runner but started the C25k program with the help of the Zen Labs app on my phone on September 7, 2012. I now look forward to my nightly runs and I'm looking at a 5k in March as well. I would definitely look at the C25k group here for support and tips. Just follow the program and have fun with it. Remember…

I'm not sure about every season but I plan on my first in March.

Taquitos (baked, not fried) Warm the corn tortilla to make it easier to roll. Fill with chicken breast, green chili, and cheese. Roll and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. 100 or so calories per taquito depending on the filling you use. Corn tortillas have around 50 calories each and normally less…

Fantastic and very inspirational.

Nice work. The apprehension is normal but I think you'll find that C25k is more mental than physical at times. Don't psych yourself out with worry, just listen to your body.

Fantastic!

Great work! Excellent time.

Incredible and inspirational!

I love salsa but so much of the store bought is high in sodium. I put chicken breast in the crock pot along with a pint or so of hot green chilies some garlic, chili powder and whatever else looks good at the moment. Then let it cook until the chicken is easy to shred. I use it to stuff omelets or in baked taquitos or on…

You can definitely see the difference. Keep up the great work.

One other bit of advice I would add is to take pictures of yourself now as you begin your journey. Front, back and side along with body measurements. And then do this every month to see your progress. You may not realize how much progress you are making but as you look back on the pictures and compare the measurements…

I'd list these as advice as I don't think there are any tricks. First, I will echo what farway said, log everything. If you don't you are only lying to yourself. Consult a doctor about what is realistic. See what they recommend for a daily calorie intake. Set realistic goals and don't compare your results with those…
