I'm about to start a new job that requires at least 75% travel, which means I won't have a gym membership, which means I'll be tempted to use up my per-diem and eat more than I should. So, I'm wondering: what kind of work-outs do you recommend for travel?

My dad's suggesting TRX

I've been bombarded with ads for the Daily Burn

I don't know. Any ideas?

Thanks!

There are lots of workouts you can do with no or minimal equipment, including:
    Bodyweight work
    Resistance bands.
    Running.

And most hotels have a workout center, though the equipment varies (and usually sucks). But there are almost always dumbbells.

First, congratulations on the new job.

I travel quite a bit for my job. Finding time to exercise and even eating well are both challenges that go with the travel. Most hotels have a workout room with a treadmill, elliptical, bike that while not ideal do offer you an opportunity to get some cardio. There is always pushups, situp even yoga in the privacy of your room. A workout DVD can be played on your laptop. Depending on where you are staying, there could be parks for walking in as well.

    Just some thoughts.

I assume you will have laptop or tablet or something that you can connect to the internet. There are tons of youtube workouts (including 30DS). Most hotels have a gym or pool- take advantage of those! Pack a resistance band (take up no space). Burpees, jump rope, squats, lunges, planks! So many options!

http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/12/20/the-20-minute-hotel-workout/ hotel workout. I've tried it and not too shabby.

TRX is awesome, but I would take a class or two first if you could. I do it about twice a week and it never fails to kick my butt.

I travel a lot of work and bring Insanity on the road with me. I just put it into my lap top. Usually when I am gone for a full week I do Insanity 3-4 times in the hotel room and the "off" days lifting in the hotel gym (if there is one).

I am away a week out of every month I do the Brazil Butt Lift and put it in my lap top, when I am home I use the weights when I am away I take the resistance bands. There is also a good iPhone/iPad app called You are your own gym. Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions! I just like a little bit of variety in my workouts, and I can do "exercises" without knowing the actual benefits, so I like a little bit of guidance.

Will you have your computer with you? If so, check out BenderFitness.com. She has TONS of workout videos that don't require any equipment. I love doing her workouts.....I never get bored, as they are always different.

If you are staying at a hotel, you can always use the hotel gym. They usually at least have ellipticals, treadmills, and free weights. Also, depending on where you are, sometimes the concierge at the hotel will have free weekly passes to a local gym that you can use while you are visiting. If you run, the concierge can also usually provide you with a running route outside.

If you have a computer with you, you can bring workout DVDs to do either in your room or in the hotel gym. There is also a lot available on You Tube. I downloaded Jillian Michaels 30DS and Ripped in 30 to my iPad for a quick workout in my hotel room when I travel. There are also loads of workout apps if you have an iPhone or iPad that you can download and do. (Probably for Android also.)
