A lot of answers with a lot of advice here. My advice would be to set up a control situation (i.e laboratory control). This is done very easily. Food scale, measuring cups, measuring spoons. Then with very strict discipline, log exactly what you eat (using your measuring implements as needed) and see what happens after a…

There is possibly something wrong with your boyfriend and doctor. That's my polite reply because you seem nice and I don't want to upset you. In any case, what I really would like to say would be more directed at your boyfriend. But as with many things, not sure I have 100% of the story so my first sentence is probably a…

Do seek advice but realize everyone is different and YOU are going to have to work out what works best for you.

MercyMe, would it be worth the effort to arrange to be able to swim as exercise? I don't know if that pushes you over into too much pain, but I know from dealing with spinal damage that swimming is a godsend for me. Good luck with all this and I'm sure you'll get used to the MFP, the main things to suss out are Goals, Food…

Glad to hear you are alive and kicking Dragon Spark, I rarely weigh myself by the way. MFP is a helpful tool, use it in the way that helps you the most. Good luck and stay in the fight, it's worth it.

The internet is a wild wild land where the best survivors have one trait in common: thick skin.
-
Fitness magazine on line has an article about 30 Surprisingly Healthy Fast Foods, covering the majors. MFP is going to have pretty much any menu item logged in the food database. While I'm a fan of encouraging people to eat healthy, I don't always practice what I preach so when I indulge, I use MFP (or other data sources)…

7 to 8 hours. Yes, I have a harder time eating less calories than I burn if I don't get enough rest. Probably the simple no-brainer of the body wanting an energy source.

With how adulterated most honey is these days, it's questionable what would be better. If you can find unadulterated honey (and there are tests to determine this), then you might be getting something that is SLIGHTLY better than refined sugar? I don't think the difference is enough to signify much, if anything.

If you feel you have to stop eating junk food, I'd phase it out gradually. What can you do to help the cravings? I think everyone's solution will be as unique as we are all different personalities and physically have different scenarios to confront. What I do (and I share your difficulty to some extent): I take chewable…

something about my being 45 years old makes me think I should probably check in to this thread.

Short answer, yes. I applaud your efforts and I strongly encourage you to continue, you are worth it and your improvements in life will make it worth it. My analogy on fitness, food management, health, etc.: it's like steering a gigantic ship, when you steer the wheel, it can take a long time to react. Trust your…

well, similar -- an overweight girl who complained to her husband that "the way you take photographs makes me look fat". In my opinion, at least with me, it's probably my fat that makes me look fat. Just sayin.

Big guy here, you can add me if you like. I am very slowly losing weight (about 1/2 a pound a week), lazy fitness man.

Basically you have to go through the hassle when you first make it and then from the calorie total, you can reverse engineer the serving size. For example, my wife and I made a casserole one night and we counted it all up. It came to about 1400 calories. We figured out it made six servings at 235 calories a pop (it was…

The only constant in physical training is: there will always be people who think there is only ONE APPROACH to physical training and health and fitness. I can't run five miles without debilitating pain in the knees and shins. My step-grandfather ran 5 miles per day until his 80th birthday, after which he switched to…

That's inspiring, thank you for posting!

In my experience: bodies tend to do better when they are put through force (e.g. a nice walk, some jumping jacks, swimming) and then fed, rather than starved. I've never seen starving work. Got it on the low-cal filling foods. You need energy to burn energy. If you focus on mustard, pickles and celery all day, you're going…

If you took away my guitars from me, I'd be cranky and moody. This might not be the same thing for you, but I suggest that you should find a reward (something you can HAVE) for succeeding in avoiding the foods you are trying to keep away from (stuff you CAN'T HAVE). For example, I wanted a shirt I saw on sale. I made…

I've had similar problems to yours but yours sounds like a very heavy load, I feel compassion for you on this and I guess I would say "I know a LITTLE how you feel." My two cents, I'd get off the medication but my bias comes from seeing people do worse on them and then do better after coming off them. To the rest of the…

But there is a lot of truth to this too... ^^^^

Spinal injury, prior to which I weighed 200 at 6'0" with a 30" waist (i.e. had bulked up a bit, but was fairly athletic. It has taken ten years to get to where I can take walks and go on gentle bike rides, so now I'm excited to be on a slow track to getting down to 185.

I like how you use the "food weave" technique with the Krispy Kream donuts, for better sugar spike management. I'm so going to use this.

There can be lots of answers to that, but I will let you know what I do since I am pretty much in the same boat as you, I ran into the same thing and also am trying to not eat a big night meal. I drink a lot of water at night. I add a squeeze of fresh lemon to it. The other thing I do: I try to eat things at night that…

Trader Joe's has some that does not have MSG in it (if you are like me and have trouble with MSG). It's really nice, and a serving is filling and low-cal, yay.

Goal I would rather hang out with you than those skinny twits in the car any day, keep up the good work and realize those chicks are going to turn 40 and be very very very lonely one day (unless they change their ways), while the rest of us happy people enjoy our loved ones and good times.
