  • I agree. The DASH.gov site gives you everything to get started. I'm on hypertension meds, but exercise/low salt gets down fast. My blood pressure is uncontrolled on meds alone, but when I exercise daily and keep my salt low my bp is good. My plan is to lose weight maintaining healthy low salt/low carb eating and exercising…
  • Chinese food. Before I even left the restaurant.
  • I am trying the FODMAP plan. I'm using myfitnesspal food diary starting with the good to eat foods to make sure I don't have a reaction to them. I am also checking off the "don't eat list" if it doesn't bother me. I am also making a move to eating whole foods, less processed foods, and stopping artificial sweetners.
  • Has anyone used the FODMAP diet? Does that help?
  • Thank you so much for your post. I am feeling the best I have felt in a long time, eating a low residue diet, eating when hungry staying at my calorie limit. My weight actually went up this week, down the 2 weeks before. I have to eat with what my body can tolerate. I'm ready to incorporate my fruits and veges back, but…
  • Thanks, I'm just now getting to my happy place. I'm going to give it another week, if I am still doing good, I will slowly return to a more balanced diet, sticking to canned fruit and cooked veges.
  • The low residue diet is really helping. Why hadn't I found that earlier??
  • For me it is very quick after I eat, less than 30 minutes.
  • I am glad I found this group! I was diagnosed with mild Ulcerative Colitis in 1998. At that time the only diet recommended was stay away from salad bars. Physician treated me with Rowasa, Asacol, and Prednisone over the years. In 2006 I started working for a University Medical Center. I started seeing the GI physician…
  • You are a great encouragement! I am a certified junk food junkie making the change to veges and fruit. So far and so good.
  • I tap into God's grace by spending time with Him daily. I read my Bible daily. Last year I made a commitment to read the entire Bible. I am 46 years old and have never done that. I have learned so much and truly feel the presence of God working in me. I also spend time in prayer daily, laying my praise and struggles to His…
  • Thanks! I will.
  • I am new to the Daniel Plan. I'm currently a DASH dieter. I was very successful over two years ago, then changed jobs and with the long work hours and commute, I fell off the wagon and gained all the weight back. I am currently reading the Daniel Plan now. I also would like friends that will encourage me and I too want to…
  • I have bout The Daniel Plan book, but I haven't read all of it yet. I am currently doing the DASH program and heard about The Daniel Plan and look forward to implementing it into my DASH diet.
  • We will all help each other. Sometimes Dash can be hard if you love junk food like I do. But it is a very healthy change and will help me in so many ways.
  • You will do fine. You can do DASH with or without counting the salt. I count the salt because I can control my hypertension best that way. We're here if you need us.
  • I take it one day at a time. Now I'm working on upper arm exercises and reaching 10,000 steps a day.
  • I hope you are doing well. I haven't lost any weight in a while. I have not been following DASH 100% I am doing a lot better keeping my salt at or below 1500 mg. Need to eat more dairy, fruits & veg. I hope you are still doing well.
  • I could also use some helpful advice. My husband sabotages me all the time. He needs DASH as much as I do. But he hates low fat food.
  • I use Fitbit. It syncs with myfitness pal and adjusts my calories by the amount I burn. But with DASH I normally just add a vege or fruit with my extra calories. I can't eat a lot of protein, so I can't add it there.
  • Welcome, Janet!
  • Hey msarielle! Yes the DASH diet works. To get your blood pressure down the Low-Salt version works faster. If you monitor you salt intake to 1500 mg for hypertension then basically everything is from scratch. You can't eat out of boxed, prepared, or canned food - unless labeled low salt. I have Malignant hypertension that…
  • Are you monitoring your salt? That is the hardest for me, but it takes the weight off fast and your BP should go down within 7 days. The DASH low salt diet works so much better than BP pills for me and I have Malignant hypertension. My problem is that my family likes to sabotage me. They'll buy groceries before I get home…
  • Welcome Janette. I have been doing the DASH off and on for years. But I have done well since January. I am doing the low salt version of DASH.
  • The government has a good download explaining the DASH diet until you can find the book. It is free. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdf
  • I have been off and on of DASH for two years now. My first week of going low salt 2 years ago I lost 2 " on my waist and 7 lbs my first week, just by cutting back on salt. It works great. I've started back this week, my family doesn't like the change, so currently I'm having to purchase my own groceries. But, I'm hoping…
  • Hi! I'm ckdprevent. I just purchased "Up" by Jawbone and will start logging my food intake and activity on this site. I understand about the desk job. I have gained over 50 lbs since starting a desk job in 2006. I've averaged 10 lb gain per year. My main goals are health related: lower blood pressure, lower triglycerides,…
