I ran my first ever 10 km back in may. had surgery end of June and am just now getting back into running again. I just started training for a half marathon (planning on running it next september). I would go by mfp, or even better invest in a HRM. Once I got my HRM i realized that my treadmill said I burned almost double of what I was actually burning.

I used the c25k app by Bluefin. It worked great for me and cost about $2.99.

I have the polar rs300x hrm (tracks calories burned, etc) and you can get a foot pod attachment for it for tracking your speed and distance.

I just started the bridge to 10k program on monday. So today will be day 2. I am not training for a specific race, i am just doing it to see if i can. I finished the c25k program a couple weeks ago.

HRM's that have the chest strap tend to be more accurate than ones without it. I really like my HRM it is polar RS300x. you can get extra parts for it to calculate your pace/ distance (but not actual step count). Not sure if you can get an HRM monitor that also counts steps. usually the general rule is if it is non-carbonated and non-caffeinated it counts. Though I usually just have plain water or put some crystal light in it.

i have the omron hj-720itc and love it!! I have had mine for a few years and no complaints. i love that i can download the info from it to my pc and that it keeps track of how many aerobic steps I have taken, distance, etc.

I am a stay at home mom to 3 little ones. i have my activity level set to lightly active, as i am not sitting all day and am usually chasing kids around, cleaning, doing chores, running up and down stairs, on my feet a lot, etc.

yes you do need the extra calories so your body can get all of the extra nutrients it needs and so your milk supply doesn't start to diminish. They say you need to add 300 to 500 extra calories per day. if you enter breasfeeding in under one of your meals it shows up and will add extra 500 calories to your day for you.

One of my favorites is Tuna salad. I use lettuce, celery, cucumber, tablespoon of light mayo, and grate some cheese on top. it works out to about 200 calories.
