  • http://www.crock-pot.com/recipes.aspx There are tons of recipes at the crock-pot website. Most seem to be submitted by readers. I have not tried these, but it sounds good. There are also some good tips. One that is key, is that most recipes only need 1/2 - 1 cup of liquid. I was a bit surprised by this as I always thought…
  • Hi Margaret, I'm sorry to hear about your week. Unfortunately, as you know all too well, that is how life goes. Today is a great day to start taking care of yourself which will help you in the long run. A little about me - I have had Type 2 for 8 years now. My doctor started me on Metformin when first diagnosed and after…
  • You answered your own question. Tell them exactly this: I would think they would want to support you and help you get healthier and that way you will be around for a very, very, very long time! Make this a family "project" and start grocery shopping, cooking and exercising together. I also agree with BigGuy and that…
  • That is incredible news!!! You know that your hard work and dedication to a healthier you has paid off!!! CONGRATS!
  • Well, at least you had one day with a good number. I'm sure there will be many more in your future!

  • I too am saddened that your healthcare provider did not offer you any support or information. I have provided a link below to get a free glucometer from Bayer, but the strips could be expensive (I have never priced them out). https://offers.bayerdiabetes.com/dc_printoffer_ez.aspx. You could check it out. Rainey does offer…
  • Hello! First of all, welcome to MFP and taking the first step towards a healthier you. Everyone else has give you such valuable information, so there isn't much more I can add. I am really sorry to hear about your daughter's passing. There are so many reasons why your daughter could have been born a stillborn. However,…
  • Hello! First of all, welcome to MFP and taking the first step towards a healthier you. Everyone else has give you such valuable information, so there isn't much more I can add. My story, I was diagnosed 8 years ago. After 6 months of trying Metformin, my doctor put me on insulin. I take Lantus and Novolog (sliding scale…
  • Why are you sticking to a 1200 calorie diet? It is not advised (by many experts) that men drop below 1800 calories. Remember, that food is fuel and your body needs fuel to function. To figure out how many calories you SHOULD be eating, use a calorie deficit calculator like the one located at fitwatch.com…
  • You have a real incredible story. Congratulations on a great job. You have worked hard and the results are your proof!!!
  • Remember, if you have the calories left at the end of the day, there is no reason for you not to eat. I usually plan on having a snack at night when I am watching tv. Sometimes it is fruit, or a frozen skinny cow, or popcorn (microwave or air popped, depending on mood/time). You don't have to deprive yourself to have…
  • Are you eating back your exercise calories? It could be as simple as you are not eating enough. You may want to eat back half/all of your exercise calories. I usually eat back 1/2 of them and I have consistently lost weight (okay - had a few plateaus, but still getting fitter, stronger and my clothes are loser, even when…
  • I have been on MFP since January 3. It has not been easy, but I have dropped nearly 30 lbs. I have learned a lot about me and my body and have discovered that I actually like riding my bike! The best advice I can give is to make sure you track every thing you eat. Measure your food and be conscious of your portions. This…
  • I typed up a nice long response earlier, but then my computer crapped out on me. There is no reason why you can't get healthy on a tight budget. You need to eat anyway and it's just a matter of what and how much you eat. First thing you need to do is be aware of how much you are eating and what a portion is. If you don't…
  • To help you figure out what you should be eating, have you used a calorie defecit calculator to figure out how many calories you should be eating? I have used the one at: http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/caloriedeficitcalculator.php. Very helpful!!! You should probably be eating back your exercise calories. You should be…
  • I have not experienced this either. It does sound like a discussion with your doctor is in order. I would be concerned with your numbers being that high on a regular basis. Do you see a diabetes doctor/endocrinologist or a general physician?
  • Hi and welcome to MFP! I went about 7 years, not caring of myself and not taking my diabetes seriously. After getting back from the doctor and listening to him tell me that I had to start taking care of myself, I would say I was going to... Test regularly (always tested in the morning and only sometimes at night) Take my…
  • I tried this once and will never try again. The eggs turned into little egg bombs as I was peeling them. I made the mistake of leaving them on the counter to cool and my early 20-something kids had "fun" exploding them in the sink. What a waste of a dozen eggs. Oh well!
  • Hi Shari, I would agree with jessie, that just moving my body is what helps. The only time I can squeeze in the exercise in on weekdays, is at night, but weekends, I try to go during the day. I used to say I am so tired at night too, but now I look forward to it. In fact, last night I didn't leave the house until 8 p.m.…
  • Hi Nancy - from another Nancy! :) I know it can be daunting to lose the weight. Just remember that the weight did not come on overnight and it won't come off that quickly either. Just start making healthier choices, watch your portion controls and move as much as possible. If you don't already have one, you may want to…

  • I have had about 7 different monitors in the 7 years since being diagnosed. Usually, because my insurance would change and I had to switch monitors. I am now using a Accu-Check Aviva and have no issues. When I had the breeze, I didn't have any problems. Regarding the case they provide, I always hated the look of the case…
  • You have made tremendous steps already. Congrats on your hard work. I am a type 2 diabetic for 7 years and have only recently (1/3/13) started to take my diet and exercise seriously. I am on insulin for control and since dropping some weight, my insulin need has been drastically reduced. Feel free to add me as a friend. It…

  • My blood sugars tend to run between 90 - 130. It is usually higher on mornings when I don't exercise the night before. Exercise, even just a 15 minute walk, will help with your numbers. I also agree that you may needf to experiment with different kinds of foods and/or try a snack before bed to lower these in the morning.…
  • Hi Robbin and welcome to MFP and the Type 2 Diabetes support group. I have had diabetes for about 7 years now and am on insulin. Since joining MFP and dropping nearly 30 lbs, I have been able to decrease the amount of insulin I have to take. People here will give you a lot of good advice. One thing my doctor always told me…
  • Although some say it is harder to lose weight at 40, I would have to say that it is hard no matter when you try. I do think that the body starts to react slower and so it takes a bit longer to lose the weight. But, if you want it bad enough, you'll achieve your goals. Feel free to add me. I am 47, turning 48 in August.…
  • I agree with the other posters. You are not eating enough. You should NEVER go under 1200 calories in a day. And if you are exercising, you should be eating back those calories. Read this forum: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/3047-700-calories-a-day-and-not-losing Might help you understand better.
  • I agree with the other posters - patience!!! Also, if you have started exercising, have you been eating back the calories you burn while exercising? Your food/exercise diary is not open, so I can't see for myself. You should be eating back those calories, especially if you are going by the calorie limits set by MFP. Just…
  • I am a little delayed, but wanted to wish you a warm welcome to MFP and to this support group. AS other have said, you will find some very knowledgeable people here that are friendly and always quick with an answer or suggestion. How has the last week gone? I am a type 2, have been for 7 years, and have been on insulin for…
  • Amazing results. You look so much younger (and happier!!!). Congratulations on the hard work - results are your proof that it works. :)

  • Incredible!!! LIke the others have said, it is cool that you are wearing the top as a dress now. That is way too cool!!! And I agree...you carry your weight well. I would have never guessed you to be 240 lbs...I weigh less than that and am convinced I look way heavier! You look amazing!!!
