I belated well done!! I need to do it again, but I'm torn between challenging the main corridor with a fast fitness hike or doing one of the lessor traveled routes. There isn't much logic to a fast hike, other than to say I've done it.

The best ab exercise is 5 sets of “Stop eating so much crap.” If you can dream it, you can do it. Walt Disney Thinking about going to the gym burns between 0 and 0 calories. Do it for yourself; nobody else cares as much. It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure.

Keep trying! The closer you get to the dates, the greater chance you'll have. People cancel all the time. I've done the bunk room bit and cannot recommend it. A friend thought it was a good idea and I went along. But really, spending time in the great outdoors but sleeping in a very crowded room is a contradiction in the…

1) Keep it simple: Do what works for you. 2) There is validity to working out after a meal, though it's not a hugh advantage. If you eat a little throughout the day, it's a minimal difference.
-
I consider it a minor mistake to focus on "losing weight". "Change my eating habits" is a more constructive catch phrase for me.

Your LBS depends on repeat business, so they are unlikely to push you in a bad direction. Being an uninformed shopper probably won't be a detriment. They should 1) be careful to fit you to a particular bike size and 2) let you demo several bikes. If they don't do both, look for another shop. Be aware that you may not be…

Categories 4 to 1 goes from easy to hard. After 1 is HC (Beyond Category). There are various sites that explain the subjective nature of hill categories. I create my own categories, then work to change them by improving my ability. For example, one well known climb in San Diego is Torrey Pines. When I began serious cycling…

I simply enjoy good tasting food and my favoriate foods are mostly empty calories. Chips, popcorn, chocolate, soda, pizza, etc. Can't eat one chip or one piece of pizza. I don't remember the tast of good food. I have to experience it, again and again.

296 MTD. May 31st is the San Diego Century. Nice way to finish the month! 1,655 YTD.

Talk to the person whose opinion matters most. She's in your mirror. Well done caring about what other people think; shows empathy. But it's your life.
-
Month to date: 205 miles, including 87 miles Saturday, my longest unsupported ride ever! I have the San Diego Century on the last day of the month. Year to date: 1,562 miles.

MIcrowave popcorn. I don't have a bag in front of me, but it reads something like "Serving size, unpopped, 3.5". Unpopped!? It's in a sealed bag! Why waste our time?

Because I don't like myself. I don't know if being closer to my proper weight will help, but it can't hurt. I also want to pedal my [first] road bike faster/farther. To get a little fit, I learned that I love biking. Now my love of biking demands that I get more fit. I want to be a good example to my children, which seems…

I have the same problem and can't say I've got a solution. But my suggestions are: - Drink more water. - Stay active. Choose to exercise at night, add to your blog, etc. Do anything that requires the use of both hands. - Rid the house of snackable foods. - Put a sign on the fridge: "Not to be opened between the hours of 8…

Status check. 1,191 miles. Three centuries, plus a 14 mile, 4,300 foot climb. I'm beating my cycling goals but sadly I'm not losing weight.
-
Joining this late, but my goal has been to do 3,600 miles and at least 4 centuries. So far I'm well ahead of my goals, including two centuries. This is good, because my other fitness routines have not gone so well.

I think your plan is excellent. The NR trail is surreal. My brother and I did it on a Sunday afternoon and for about three hours saw no one. We owned a National Park!
-
This is a much discussed issue. I now only eat back when I have an intense or long workout. For example, last Sunday I cycled 65 miles (3,800 calories). I didn't try to stick with my daily 1500 calorie limit. But my normal workouts are about 600 calories and not as intense. I try to stay near 1500. I once ate back…

I am totally into cycling. Yes, you have to get over fears of cars (and their drivers).

The Ribbon Falls is very much worth it, but I'd regret doing it in a rush. There is natural seating behind the falls which lets you sit and contemplate its beauty. I think starting at the NR is the best idea. But not on 01 October! : )

This is a much discussed issue. I now only eat back when I have an intense or long workout. For example, last Sunday is cycled 58 miles (3,300 calories). I didn't try to stick with my daily 1500 calorie limit. But my normal workouts are about 800 calories and not as intense. I try to stay near 1500.

Wow. Working at a pub presents special challenges. Food and drink everywhere. Definitely record your food intake. There's an ongoing debate whether one should add calories burned to the calorie daily allowance. MFP automatically adds it. I've begun to add some but not all whenever I have an especially intense workout. It's…

1) As someone else wrote, ride my commutes even with poor weather (not saying much, being in San Diego). 2) Keep track of my miles. 3) Do at least 4 organized centuries (3 done in '13). 4) Carry less fat but more muscle than last year. 5) Volunteer for at least two events. 6) Pedal at least 3,600 miles. 7) Do the Palomar…

From a poster: Some quit because of slow progress, never realizing that slow progress. . . is progress.

Nice hat.
-
Before starting, have a plan. Average speed, total distance, etc. Or goals for interval work (example; 2 minutes easy, 2 minutes hard. Repeat.). When you have an end result, reaching it should occupy your mind. That said, I totally endorse a TV.
-
Needs a Santa hat.
-
Duh. My point was, if your long term desire is to get fit and the options are doing some exercise that you hate or sitting on the couch eating handfuls of chips (and who doesn't love that?), suck it up and do the first. You might end up enjoying it, which is great, but in any case you'll be advancing towards your goal.…
