  • I love Higdon as well. I am starting back up after a hysterectomy. My goal race is Disney's Wine and Dine in November. So I am going from C25k to Higdon's 10k to Higdon's Novice 2. I have always used his training plans and feel really confident suggesting them
  • Yoga is great and because it is about what YOU can do, size and shape doesn't matter. Though I have found my "gut" gets in the way sometimes. Ugh!
  • Returning. Had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago and finally cleared to exercise again. My next race will be Peachtree on July 4th!
  • I like Road runner sports. Google coupon codes and get their VIP membership (.99 cents!). I usually shop there or REI. LOOOOVE the Rei quality guarantee!!!
  • Well I am thinking you are a woman. So my recommendation: sparkle skirts. Looooove them!!
  • I do. Sadly. Two things I need to STOP doing: taking breaks from running and regaining weight :)
  • 40 is a good goal for me. My BMI chart says I need about 50, but 40 puts me at 170 and I feel pretty good around there. I maintained 165-170 fairly well with little effort (prior to the move and the hell of the new job) so long story short, YES :)
  • Thanks everyone, As for the poster who asked, MCM doesn't have a half option, I have a friend I had sign up to run it with me so I feel "peer pressure" to keep going, and I deferred from last year so I either run it now or I lose my fees. Not necessarily the best reasons but they are enough that I am sucking it up and…
  • I think my anxiety is getting to me. I don't like being half trained. But between husband's R&R (who wants to go run an hour or more when that is the only time I get with that man for a year?!!) and my mandated rest for my foot back in May, I lost valuable time. So back to being poorly trained. Sigh. I have plenty of fat…
  • Yeah today was supposed to have been 18. But by 15 it was so hot and having been up and down hill after hill, I was just worn out. Still trying to get a feel for pacing and nutrition and hydration. Today was an epic fail on all accounts there. Not enough water in the middle meant I sucked it down at the end and then felt…
  • My first and only experience with RnR was the one in Raleigh. It was an awful course, very few aid stations, the start had to be delayed because of traffic and routing problems with getting to the start line, it was a mess. I was NOT impressed.
  • My grandfather had a leg problem which affected his blood circulation. His doctor gave him a prescription for compression socks (no joke). If it can help the man with a medical problem, maybe there is SOME smidgeon of benefit???? So they may not endow me with magical running abilities, but I need any small extra boosts I…
  • I have these and really like them.
  • I can't wear shorts. I just can't. My thighs are so close together that it is pretty much one giant thigh. I dont care how loose the shorts are, my shorts are going to be swallowed. I DO have a pair of brooks shorts that I wear running around for errands and for things like going to the beach.…
  • Brussel sprouts clean out all my toxins. SO technically I guess they are toxic too since they make my stomach gurgle. NO MORE BRUSSEL SPROUTS people!!
  • Lived there for 4 years. I feel your pain, though I topped out at 35 miles a week. I once had a cop "pull" me over to ask me what I was doing while I was out running cause he wanted to know what i was doing. Running is a strange sight in Louisiana!
  • It is like you can see into my SOUL <whispering> are you psychic????
  • This is what I get for living in denial and putting off the foot doctor visit. 6 weeks of rest and I came out of it thinking "Sure, why not go right into marathon training?" And to top it off, "Let's have my friend run it with me." Now hoping guilt will push me those last miles of hell  Wondering if I should change…
  • Lol no, 11 miles was my long run. Those are my LR distances, not my overall mileage. God help me if that were the case. I know it is going to suck. I feel stuck. I committed to it and have another friend who committed to it because of me. Bib bought, hotel bought, etc. I am going to be stuck in the suckfest. :frown:
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Merrell Trail Gloves. Like they are my favoritest shoe EVER.  My husband swears Merrells are the best shoes ever. I dont like them for road running but they are the best I have ever bought for trail running.
  • Tempo runs. Though I will add-I never ran a 50 minute 10k lol (56 is my best time and I threw up after I finished :drinker: ) But I knocked 8 minutes off my time by doing tempo runs. And hill repeats. But mainly I found a flat fast course and did a weekly tempo run. Another workout I used-Ran my first part of a run at race…
  • Yep. When I ran the Rock N Roll Raleigh, it was hot as hell. Black asphalt, no shade, hot day, lots of hills. Yet by mile 11 I am shivering. Because my poor body was trying to cool me off (didnt happen until I climbed into my tub of ice lol). I had goosebumps, which freaked out my friend. Running does strange things to our…
  • And I have to call <cough cough bull**** cough cough> on the girl running 5:30 mile AVERAGES. As in this is her everyday training pace......umm no. Straight up no. Ignore that OP. That is crazier than Tom Cruise on a couch.
  • Sigh, Captain America, you can come keep me company ANY night of the week......
  • Yesterday it was 93 degrees and hilly. My pace was 13:40. Last week for temp run it was 11:30. Long run is about the same as my hill run pace-13:xx. So it is fluid. Sometimes I feel like death in this humidity and I am easily at a 14+ mile. AT my fittest, about 5 years ago, I was running 9mm. Eventually I would like to get…
  • FOREVER. :grumble: or if you are not me, maybe a little less
  • Woohooo good job!! I would LOOOOOVE a 1:58!!! I am jealous-we had such a fantastic time when we visited Dublin. :drinker:
  • My heart is in DC. One day I will get back there. I try to drive up and do as many races as i can there. The mountains are so close as is the beach and running along the Potomac/National Mall/Monuments.....ahhh. I am super jealous!!!
  • I would steal your legs for that 5k time!!! :flowerforyou: Welcome!!!!
  • Wait, you haven't lost weight in 5 days?? And this is after a 12 pound loss in week one?? This is not a plateau. Five days does not a plateau make. Weight loss isn't linear. It isn't constant. And you definitely won't lose 12 pounds every week!! Be realistic with your goals.
