Charity fundraising
I am contemplating trying to fundraise for a veteran's organization for next year's NYCM. I would love to hear some hints/tales from those who have gone the charity raising route. Thanks!

In the home stretch-tweaking plan?
Made it 15 miles today. I have 5 weeks until my marathon. I have already posted and pretty much acknowledged I am just trying to survive this thing. That being said, I have 5 weeks. Would you A) break down the plan and skip my 20 miler so I can still have a step back week? Distance would be 11, 18, 10, 8, marathon B) keep…

Add your miles to the Wear Blue Spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Kh1hJlhjE0ZKp36A26B1ej1mdn_T4SRHbriRl1fNYF0/edit?usp=sharing I don't know how many of you are familiar with the wear blue organization. It was started by a woman at Fort Lewis, WA after her husband was KIA. Today, this group runs to honor all military members killed in combat and has…

Let's Get Personal.....Running Shorts/Underwear
So I apparently I am some gross weirdo to my friends because I don't wear an extra pair of underwear under my running shorts. I didnt know people even did that! I use the built in liner as my solo pair. Curious to know-does the majority wear a pair in addition to their running shorts?

I need to cut a corner- not good
So I am behind in my marathon training plan. Not running to race, not even running for time, running to finish. This week I did 11 miles. I have 8 weeks until the marathon (dear god, typing that made me throw up from nervous fear  ) So this is how LR training is breaking down: 1. 13 2. 15 3. 18 4. 14 5. 20 6. 10 7. 8…

Where do you put your rest day?
If you have one (some of yall maniacs are right now googling what exactly "rest day" means. I don't mean you  ) Before your long run, after the long run, some random place in the middle of the week? Right now I have mine before my long run and with a long yoga class the day after the run.

Joining a Running Club
So how do you do it? I feel like a nerdy freaking high school kid, but do you just show up to an event? Do they have new members meetings? I have gone through the website and can't find it. Maybe I should just go to the monthly members meeting??? http://www.meetup.com/FayRunClub/ I have no clue how to join a running club.…

Small, Medium, or Large? Race that is :)
Oaky I edited this. I had a goal, looked at the requirements for this goal (aka time reqs), and decided it was a two year goal, not a one year lol. But still wondering what size race you prefer. I am looking at a Spring Half either in my hometown (hm had 1700 people last year) or one with 9000 (which would be a weekend…

Ummm marathon 99 days, help
So between husband coming home on midtour leave, a kid having an operation, (shamefacedly) vacationing in Cali, I am two weeks behind in my long runs. I still have the time but I feel freaked out now. My fault completely. I was the grasshopper and played all summer. But this is my first full AND I conned a friend, who is…

Using a Race as a Training Plan Run
Okay so I am waffling on skipping my Cherry Blossom 10 miler because I don't see my LR being more than 8 miles before I go and while I need to do a 10 miler the weekend of the race (my plan calls for it), I don't need to *race* a 10 miler. So I am pretty much set on missing it as I don't think I can make the cutoff time if…

Struggling with Plantar Fasciitis, advice?
So I am pretty sure I have of. If I push on the fleshy part below my arch, it feels like a giant bruised area. It has been here for a few months now :( . I haven't gone to see anyone as getting a referral in the Tricare (military medical coverage) is a trial. I bought a Strassburg sock and plan on wearing it to bed. I also…

Day 1 with Fitbit: Help!
So my husband gave me his hand me down fitbit. I now have the FitBit Flex (he got the Force). I linked it with MFP and it is showing up with adding calories burned (under exercise) and it looks like my daily calorie allowance is increased. Does it do that based on the number of steps I take a day? And I am assuming the…

Explain to me Your 30+ mile weeks
Okay so reading tonight about base training and getting to marathon training stage. Now my marathon is about 11 months away lol but I am heading in to half training which I hope to segue into my full. So I will max out half training at 28-30 miles a week. Is that last week of half training a typical running week for those…

?? Heel drop/new shoes/sore calves
So I switched from Asics Nimbus (wore them for 7 years) to Saucony Triumph. The shoes feel fine, not foot mechanical issues but my calves hurt. Every run. I run on the street-sore calves. I run on trails-sore calves. It is really impacting my mileage increase as my legs feel sore all the time. I warm up and cool…

3 half marathons, 3 months?
Has anyone tried doing a half marathon every month for 3 months? The first one would be in March, second exactly a month later, and the last about 5-6 weeks after the second. AM I crazy? Will I die? :ohwell: The fees for the races are about to increase significantly at the end of the month....though I am still holding out…

Teach about buying a bike
So I want to start biking. I love Spin (I know it isn't the exact same) but I can't make it work in to my schedule right now. I would like to look at buying a bike so I can do a few things: go ride some paved/groomed trails, ride around my neighborhood, and maybe eventually start biking to work (11 miles away). I am hoping…

Going to see doctor re: fatigue and no weight loss-help
Okay so I have an appointment to go see my doctor on Thursday. I have been feeling "draggy' and tired for months now and it isnt abating. It is starting to affect my runs in that I feel the fatigue while running as well. What things should I talk to the doctor about? I have been taking two supplements, one of which is an…

Tell or don't tell friend
Ok situation: I have a good girl Friend is away at training. Lets call her K. Went out tonight with my husband and some friends, run in to K's husband. Good gift for a pregnant friend
Okay so one of my really dear friends is pregnant, and I would love to get her something good for her birthday. Maybe around $50ish max. Gift cards are fine but maybe you guys have some ideas?? She likes to: cook, sky dive, loves wine (no more for a while though lol), and is infatuated with her husband. She used to do…

Lost my beloved Running partner, my dog
Rough time these past two days. My dog, Harley, died on Sunday. She was my faithful sidekick and very much like one of my children. She and I ran thousands of miles together. And it was her silly smile and crazy joy of running that made me go on those days when I just wanted to crash on the couch. She was like my best…

Discrepancy between MFP and BMR/TDEE
Ok, MFP recently reduced my calories, and now I am trying to figure out if I am too low. MFP has it set at 1370 a day, with my exercising to burn off 930ish a week. 1370*7+930=10560 calories a week for food TDEE is 2139, my BMR is 1556, and the scooby website suggested 1711 for daily consumption (no exercise calories to…

Just 2 days/week
So I know the plan calls for 3 and no hard cardio in Stage 1. But I love to run. Love it. And I have a pretty full race calendar (fun runs) so it just isn't a option to stop. That being said, anyone else doing/do the plan 2 days a week? Thinking my schedule will be: M-Weights T-Short run W- Rest TR-Medium Run…

To weigh or not to weigh...
So I hate the scale. Seriously hate the scale. I spent 5 years with bulimia, and while I have the tools now not to revert to that, the old mental habits are hard to break. Anyone here NOT weigh themselves weekly? I am thinking of maybe having my husband hide it from me (yes seriously. I am grown woman and this is probably…

Garmin with or without HRM?? Model??
Looking at getting a new gadget. Trying to decide if I go cheap and get the Garmin 210 or splurge on the 610. I am leaning towards the 410 as it is the middle ground. Does it need to have the heart rate monitor for calorie count??? How important is this feature as it is usually another 50ish plus dollars. The 210 is iffy…

Crispy Eggrolls in Oven??
I usually fry the eggroll wrappers to get a nice crisp to them, but I would really like to make them in a healthier manner. Will they still get crisp in the oven? Maybe if I spray with some olive oil spray first? Thanks!

Slooooooow Losers-Talk to me
Would love to hear from some people for whom it took/is taking a while to make their goals. I used to be able to just tweak my diet a little and see a couple pounds. Now I have tweaked my diet, started working out, and seeing....nothing. I know it may take a while. Anyone else experience this? What happened? What…
