Lost my beloved Running partner, my dog

Rough time these past two days. My dog, Harley, died on Sunday. She was my faithful sidekick and very much like one of my children. She and I ran thousands of miles together. And it was her silly smile and crazy joy of running that made me go on those days when I just wanted to crash on the couch. She was like my best friend in so many ways.
Today I am "scheduled" for a run. It will be my first training run in 7 years without her. My heart is breaking. It sucks.

I know the feeling. My honey and I lost our 'walking' partner this year. Whenever I walk / run in a familiar area where my Buddy and I had been, can't help to feel sad. It's still hard but you'll get through it specially the first few times.
I'd suggest to go to a different track or park (as long as it's safe) and do your run there. Or go with someone - a new running partner to keep you company. But keep on going!
Hope you'll feel better...0 -
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved companion, Harley! I know how hard this can be.
Just know that when you run today, that Harley is still running with you, tail wagging in the air the entire time.
You have my deepest sympathy!0 -

Sorry for your loss. One of my favorite quotes is-
“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”

I had to put down my walking buddy in Sept. It has not been the same since. I loved that chocolate lab dearly. It will eventually get better but I know how you feel. It is still hard for me to go and walk without her.0

Oh, my. I can't imgine the pain you're going through. I'm so sorry for the loss of your buddy.
It's a cruel joke that dogs and humans can love each other so much, but their lifespans are so much shorter than ours.
I hope that your run today is healing for you.0 -
I feel you pain!
I had a puppy, Annie, who was my best friend and closest partner. Though we didn't run together, we were winning dog sporting competitions when she was only 10 months old!!!
She suddenly passed away at 19 months of age from a cerebral haemorrhage. She was fine in the morning, when I left for work, and was gone by the time I got back. Probably one of the biggest shocks I've ever received in my life.
Her breed usually live to be 14 years old, or older.
This was about a year and a half ago. If she were around now, we would definitely be running in the park and forests with me!
Edit to add: Her death was probably one of the leading causes for my gf to break up with me. She couldn't handle it herself.0 -
Aww *big hugs*, my heart goes out to you! My dogs have always been faithful companions, sorry for your loss.0

Oh that hurts - I am so sorry! Dogs are awesome! Go get a puppy and train him/her as your new running partner and do it quick.0

Harley was so lucky to have your love. I lost my precious, almost-17 yo dog in October and still think about her every day. The first month without her was so hard. Hang in there and hopefully you will find joy in your runs again soon.0

i am so sorry for your loss. I know that even today, 5 years since I lost Java, my dobey running mate, that I still miss him on the old trails we used to take. Harley will be with you in your heart on your runs and you'll find yourself enjoying the paths for their memories. Run them sometimes just for Harley.0
