Your heading says a lot. Wishing you success on your journey.

I am cheap. In theaters, movie snacks are grossly over priced. This has stopped me from making a link between movies and snacks. You can try substitutes but I would suggest that instead you eat a meal first and then tell yourself the rest is nonsense.

I used to go to one where your bill depended on the weight of your plate full of food. We also used to get great mileage when we took our preschoolers to buffets that charged kids by the year. My kids were total carnivores and despite being small were big eaters.

I don't see why they would interfere with each other but you would have to explain to your MFP site what it is you are doing. The Fitbit does not accurately record things like elliptical trainers, rowing machines, stair climbers, etc. For those you will want to rely on your HRM. Keep track of your start time and the…

An additional point, and no they are not paying me to act as a spokesperson. I started with the Ultra, a model that is no longer available. It did not have the little rubber encasement the One has and it really objected to getting wet. I was wearing it on my bra and on a hot summer day it got sweat soaked and died. I…

I too love my Fitbit. I have had my Fitbit One since September 2012 and since then I have logged almost 3,500 miles. (I am a couple of months shy of 70 years old, so that's not too shabby.) I have compared the mileage on a walk as recorded by my Fitbit with a friend who has a Garmond and it is pretty well dead on.…

If we could see your profile it would help.

My kind of dog.

This is our Sassy when she was a pup. My soul mate dog was a pit bull named Kiwi. She had the name before I stole her so we always teased that it was because at some point someone had thought she looked like a fuzzy fruit.

I am past the premenstrual problem stage but even back then this was something that satisfied me. About 4 frozen strawberries, or half a banana sliced and frozen 1 cup of skim milk 1 tbsp. of light hot chocolate mix artificial sweetner to taste. Place them in a blender on high and you get a 16 oz glass of "milkshake" for…

I am a walker and sometimes will experience back pain if I am matching the stride of a taller person...ie when I adopt a stride that is too long for me. Shorter steps and I have no problem at all.

The first 30 years are the hardest. (Married for 51 years so speak from experience.)

I am waiting to see if you get an answer on this. Bump.

I'd take it. I am at an age where peers are dying. I am a total control freak. I want to know when I have to start cleaning out all my drawers and cupboards.

I had always been fairly slim but I gained about 20 pounds when I hit 50. For the next 15 years I battled it but I had this problem with motivation. One January, I had started a diet and was trying to motivate myself by reading lots of Fitness and Shape magazines. I was taking them out of our local library. Every few days…

I just tried Brian's formula and it showed I had burned 246 calories walking 6.56 miles. My Fitbit gave me credit for 311 calories. I will be watching this thread to hear what others have found.

bump....(Just want to be able to find this thread later when I have time to read and respond.)

ndj...should maybe have mentioned that I am a few months off my 70th birthday. I don't see heavy lifting or body resculpting iin my immediate future.

I too am 5'4" and quite sedentary. I don't work out but I do walk regularly. I started MFP in August 2012 weighing 146lbs. I stuck with 1200 calories a day for the first 5 months and in that time lost 23 lbs. (About one pound a week.) I did not eat back my exercise calories because according to MFP's calculations I would…

I have a horrible family history of diabetes. Both grandmothers, four aunts, my mother and my only sister all were diagnosed before they turned 70. (My sister was only 40.) Most of them were not significantly overweight. I will be 70 this year and my A1C has never been more than 4.6. My diet isn't wonderful. I have kept my…

We have the most spoiled dog on our block. She is a Boston terrier and she demands 7 walks a day. We live in the Pacific Northwest and can walk 365 days a year...the rain doesn't stop us. My husband and I fight for the privilege of escorting her and getting to claim the calories. DH tries for 3 miles a day. I average 6. I…

Grains and legumes will add healthy calories and are cheap.

One of the advantages of eating vegetables is that it allows you to up the bulk/volume of your meals without adding much by way of calories. The strict portion control suggested already will work but it might leave you feeling quite deprived. I am wondering if you could "hide" some vegetables in your meaty dishes so you…

5 degrees centigrade , 41 degrees Fahrenheit . Raining...always a surprise here in the Pacific north west. (Vancouver, Canada)

If I ever manage to get into moderation, I'm sure I will be a fanatic about it.

Eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.

My sister has always carried all her extra weight around her middle. She has slim legs and no butt to speak of but she has what she calls a Buddha belly. She also has a beautiful complexion and even now that she is in her sixties there are no signs of any wrinkles. She was in her late fifties when someone asked her when…
