  • Cold showers are BS... but as I explained, there's a grain of truth in there with cold temperatures and brown fat. It's also easy to out-eat the benefit, so if the person is not following a sensible eating and exercise plan, it's not going to be of much help. There is no need to do anything extreme, either. Take…
  • I suppose we have different opinions of "bad" ... I'd rather have sun and 36 F, than sun and 104 F. Maybe I'm just "cold acclimated" :D
  • I think she's confused that the temperature and duration of a cold shower is going to have some kind of added effect of stimulating metabolism (as in, activating brown fat) The study director of the shivering-related white to brown fat, said setting your thermostat to 68 is good enough. Of course, if you do nothing but sit…
  • Who cares, the rats still live longer... http://jap.physiology.org/content/61/5/1656.short :P
  • It was more like 36 degrees outside when I was walking today. I love to walk on cold, sunny days... and that's the day I had today. Enjoy what little of the sun that I can, even if its just above freezing. :)
  • Cold showers seem a little silly, but there is something to cold weather and the conversion of white fat to brown fat. http://www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode/shivering-activates-brown-fat/ Better off taking a brisk walk in the cold weather. I did that today for an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • while I have different priorities (not interested in children, particularly), I don't see the point of people getting so offended by her. Grats to her accomplishments, it's not easy to do what she's done. I'm pretty sick and tired of these people crying "fat shaming" to virtually anyone who dares to talk about how they…
  • I lost pretty quickly even though I did nothing unusual. *shrug* Just regular exercise and portion control. When on weight loss mode, I eat 1600-2000 calories a day. Nothing extreme, results in weight loss every time for me. (I'm 5'6" and medium build) Assumptions... there are many.
  • Like it or not, the radfems are still feminists. Not a line of thought I agree with for the most part, but a spade is a spade.
  • I love this line, it's a perfect summary of what's wrong with them. edit: No obese people deserve to be bullied, but neither does anyone deserve it when they decide to lose weight, which happens by many people who profess "fat acceptance" to people who try to change their weight. Rinse, wash, repeat for feminists who…
  • Thank you. :) I had some ups and downs in other ways, but at least it wasn't my weight. Yup. I don't use a measuring cup for anything but liquids, which can be better estimated by volume. If it is possible to measure it by weight, I will do it. It does work, but it takes a whole lot of discipline!
  • measuring tip: I use metric, and the grams listed for a serving size. What the grams equal to is what I put down in MFP. It worked for me!
  • You people are exactly as I remember you months ago. So cute. Thanks for the article... exactly my experience. Me, my hypothyroid and my Mirena IUD... still lost weight being meticulous about measuring and counting calories, and simply exercising more. I went on maintenance during the summer, had a blast dating new people…
  • 1.4 lbs down over last week, 69.8 lbs total. Start weight: 263 lbs Current weight: 193.2 lbs
  • 3 lbs down, to 194.6 lbs.
  • January. I have more recent pictures in my profile.
  • No... they are ahead of us in technology, at least Germany is. I had an ISDN phone in Germany on a residential plan back in the mid 90s. You couldn't touch completely digital phones with any remote amount of affordability in the United States back then, and in many areas still can't. Public transportation is on time and…
  • congratulations, you look great! I remember when I hit that milestone myself... its an awesome feeling.
  • locally grown is more important than organic, imo. Fresh food in season always tastes better, and keeps your money locally in the community. I am with Agc on this one. That said, I sometimes buy organic products, but not because it's organic.
  • 2.2 lbs down since last Friday. From 200 to 198.8... I've hit Onederland during this week. :) Got 49 lbs left to go... and 36 lbs to the 100 lbs lost marker.
  • thank you! And you can do it! I started this journey in mid August of last year. It's not really been all that long!
  • :) yea, the first picture my seborrheic dermatitis was acting up. It's actually gotten a lot better as I have lost weight. No idea why that is.
  • Awesome, you look great!
  • Thank you so much! Yes, this was my big, big hurdle. The next giant milestone will be hitting 100 lbs lost. I will be nearly at goal then. (with about ~10 lbs to lose to get to goal, which isn't significant) I am doing a Biggest Loser contest at work, ironically...
  • Thanks! I am glad this is inspirational to folks. I was actually 198.4 when I got on the scale after my workout. So its really fluctuating down there, which is awesome. I am 5'6'' tall, and I work out a lot. I am fairly chesty, so some of my weight is north of the equator, so to speak. :D I have some fair bit of muscle…
  • 200, 5'6'' 12-14 US depending on brand. (I probably have 20 lbs of breast tissue being a 38DDD, and I don't carry a lot of junk in the trunk)
  • I lost easily at 1800 a day when I was at the height of my weight. But I was weighing my food pretty religiously, counting every morsel that passed by my lips as well as possible, and I exercise vigorously. (getting heart rate consistently up over 70 percent capacity is pretty important, and I usually get it over 80.
  • Thanks :) You should not feel hopeless over this guy. I know it hurts a lot right now, but I assure you that it will get better with time. The best thing you can do for you is go back to the gym and work out, and make a go of your own life without him. You need to love yourself, this guy would never have been able to love…
  • Thanks for clarification, Stellar. Sometimes we never get an explanation. I've been rejected over my weight, I can see how you may think this... once it's happened, it is hard to turn those tapes off that you are not (fill in the blank) enough for the guy. But I don't think that's the case here... I don't think his…
