  • Another thought- Eating 1800 calories of pizzas and desserts is very different from eating 1800 calories of healthy grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean protein. One will result in you losing the belly and the other surely will not. Track not only what you are eating but what is in your food. Your pizza is mainly carbs and…
  • I don' t think anything is off. Are you serious about eating the fried foods and pizza and desserts and expecting to lose weight? I haven't had my coffee yet so I'm not sure if that was meant as a joke... Basically Robin is exactly correct. What I suggest you do is figure out your TDEE- just google it and punch in the…
  • Be patient.....5 lbs in one month is amazing progress.
  • The Roots & John Legend- "The Fire"
  • I love vegetables but I wasn't eating enough and it wasn't until a friend on MFP pointed it out a couple of months ago that I noticed. Pretty silly since I have yet to meet a veggie I don't love. So I made a commitment to myself to eat veggies with every single meal, no exceptions. I start the day with mushrooms, bell…
  • My favorite treat from Trader Joe's is the chocolate mochi. It is to die for.
  • You can learn a new language! Or start a book club. Or a cooking club! When I lived in San Francisco I started a dinner club and the idea was to cook a full dinner together one night a month- from different countries. We did French, Peruvian, Malaysian, Moroccan....Super fun!
  • I like Starbucks, too! But when I drink Starbucks I usually add a shot of espresso to it so it tastes richer and then just a dash of Splenda. I can't do Starbucks plain- doesn't taste good enough to me. Have you tried Peet's coffee? Now THAT is strong coffee straight from the Bay Area. Delicious.
  • I think someone else above suggested the same thing- Do you think if it is really god coffee you may not need anything extra? I recently had a medium roast coffee from Papa New Guinea at a local coffee that was French pressed and simply rich and delicious all on its own.
  • Everyone on here is spot on. I guess it depends on if you are going for North Indian or South Indian food. If North Indian, anything from the tandoor is good. Avoid the creamy curries and go for tomato based dishes. Avoid the fried appetizers and pappads. Get some raita. Choose veggies. Avoid biriyanis (my favorite). And…
  • I think the nice thing about MFP is the support and motivation from others. Stress affects a lot of people and can cause weight gain, overeating, lack of desire to exercise, etc. I think this is a safe environment for a lot of people to vent without feeling judged (until now, lol) and to put things on here they wouldn't…
  • Cold cold morning in Chicago! Woke up and made pancakes. Going to do some laundry, yoga, get lost in a novel for a bit, catch up on phone calls to friends (I've been awful about returning calls), learning Spanish and then probably Tae Bo later on.
  • From my own experience, it sounds like you need to be eating more. You are quite possibly eating 1000 or so UNDER your maintenance...and you probably don't have a lot of fat to start with so your body is probably holding on to whatever is there. Try eating a few hundred more calories after you do the math to figure out…
  • I do yoga a few times a week. Vinyasa yoga is what I prefer. Focusing on breath and movement as I flow keeps me feeling centered. As a bonus it tones your body, too. I have yoga dvds by Baron Baptiste and Seane Corne. Both are phenomenal instructors!
  • www.chipotlefan.com for all the nutritional info you want. I usually get a chicken fajita burrito bol with lots of fresh salsa, black beans, a little cilantro rice, lettuce and a sprinkle of cheese.
  • Salut et bienvenue! Je ne suis pas francophone, mais je parle francais!
  • Yes more muscle definition which automatically makes you look leaner (since you don't build bulky muscles in yoga). I'm definitely the type of girl who needs cardio to really blast fat, though...no way around it for me. If I had a choice I would do yoga every day- vinyasa, power, bikram, whatever....and keep it at that.…
  • I love Vinyasa and have been doing it exclusively for the past year and it hasn't helped me lose weight so I am reluctantly going back to more cardio because it works. Yoga has helped me look leaner and toned and helps with my strength and posture, not to mention blasts stress so I still do it as often as I can- 4 times a…
  • Completely agree. I have done this in the past for quick fixes, knowing the water weight would come off fast, but also hoping to maintain the lifestyle. Not realistic at all the weight just comes back. It was always a waste of time for me. Some people are able to swear off even healthy carbs and the weight may not come…
  • With pizza I stick to thin crust (or normal) tomato sauce, light cheese and loads of veggies. I'll have a couple of slices and then not stress too much about it, especially since it is a rare occasion.
  • Welcome, and good luck! Me too, trying to lose 20- from 155 to 135....
  • I read on CNN that it doesn't apply at all to the tropical something or the other astrology, which is what Western Astrology is based on. I am still a Virgo. If you adhere to Eastern astrology then it IS different. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/13/no-your-zodiac-sign-hasnt-changed/?npt=NP1
  • Restaurant food IS ridiculous. Non-chain/"nicer" sit down restaurants still don't have nutritional information, so it makes it hard to eat out. For example, I am going to my cousin's birthday dinner tonight at an Argentinian place and I'm going to have to do my best unassisted to figure out the calories and such. I'm going…
  • How about an egg white scramble with some spinach and bell pepper thrown in? Or a breakfast cereal (low sugar, high fiber variety) with fresh berries and almond milk? Whole grain toast with peanut butter and a side of fresh fruit?
  • If you goal includes good health, I would avoid fast food except for the rare occasion because your health could very likely suffer from that! Have you seen Super Size Me? Fast food is (usually) dangerous, toxic stuff. I like sweet treats myself, but will not eat them daily because I know my body does not need the extra…
  • Ha ha, I haven't had that problem yet so maybe I'm in the clear.
  • Do you know if it is bad to eat more than 25g of Fiber a day? A few weeks ago (after your advice to eat more veggies) I started eating a lot more salads and fruit and my fiber intake is anywhere from 25-40 g a day now.
