I'm 5'4, around 180 pounds, and I eat 1620 a day. I think the mistake some people on mfp make is saying they want to lose 2 pounds per week instead of 1 when they do their settings -- a lot of people aren't big enough to healthily lose 2 lbs per week, and they end up getting a low number. If you set it to one pound per…

That's kind of an insult to the intelligence of the people on this site. People DO know how to research, and there IS a lot of false information on here from people who think their way of losing weight is the ONLY way. It's very aggravating. And to answer the OP, the biggest myth for me was that I had to eat next to…

Bumping one more time to see if I can get more answers. :)

Very true! Circuit training makes a lot more sense than any of the other labels I've heard. I do plan on gradually increasing the weights, I'm working with 3 lbs. now because it's been awhile since I worked out and I want to work my way back up to my 5 lb. dumbbells, which for me were really heavy. Reaching 10 lbs. one day…

Lol, oh dear! Yeah, it's time for an upgrade. There's something about the way you're landing on that leg when you run that's causing you pain, and a stabilizing running shoe will probably help with that. My first workout shoes were Reeboks too...they were so terrible for serious exercise it was ridiculous. xD Then I got K…

I haven't had that happen to me, but I did have weird foot pain and cramps when I first started because I wasn't wearing the right shoes. Have you been fitted for running shoes at a specialty store? They'll have you jog on a treadmill and film it so you can see exactly how you run, and they'll match you with a shoe that…

I agree with you, but apparently if you're not lifting heavy, it's just cardio with weights, at least according to some MFPers. :/ I'm not sure what's fact and what's fiction at this point.

Hi there, I'm working my way up to running a 5k. I'm not that fast and I spend more time walking than running at this point, but I'm making progress! :) I'd love to have some runner friends and get some encouragement to keep going, especially since I signed up for a run in December.
-
Sounds like a plan! I don't do a lot of miles running right now, anyway, I'm working my way up to a 5k. These shoes should last a decent amount of time (6 months to a year) since I'm not putting them through anything horribly strenuous. Do you find your shoes wear out faster because you use them for everything?

I see a few of you are saying to try this barefoot -- I'm a little nervous about that. I do this workout on carpet and it's rather slippery, enough so that it's hard to hold a plank position, for example. I also like the support shoes give me when I'm doing any of the jumping moves, they keep my ankles from rolling and…

Don't be upset if you can't come up all the way, that's normal for beginners. I can't come all the way into a table and I've done that workout quite a few times (just restarted today and am on Week 1, but I remember the move you're talking about). Keep your hands by your bum and spread your fingers, then push up from your…

Thanks! I just did Ripped in 30 with the running shoes, and it worked out fine, if anything it helped with stabilizing during the mild plyo in the Week 1 workout.

I used to be a total gym rat and not like to workout anywhere else, but lately I've enjoyed working out at home and running outside in a local park. It feels much more natural, but I don't fault people who prefer the gym. :) Different strokes for different folks.

Hi guys, just wanted to give you an update! I saved my pennies (literally, cashed in change at the bank to get money) and went to Jack Rabbit! They filmed me running and found the perfect shoes for me. My running is much better and my feet are no longer giving me any issues. :) Thanks so much for giving me that final push…
-
Thanks, guys! I found a Jack Rabbit store near me and I think I'll go there instead of to the local Foot Locker for my next pair of shoes. I really want to become a runner, so if good shoes are part of the package I'll find a way to make it happen. :) Has anyone been to Jack Rabbit? What was your experience there?

So why is it okay for people to body shame women on here who DON'T want to lift by calling them skinny fat? Neither one is okay.
-
Ripped in 30! All the little things I didn't like about 30DS were fixed in the sequel, and I enjoy the workouts a lot more. :)

I tell myself that the work I'm doing is worth it to get the body I want instead of the body I've had for the last 20 years. I'm not very overweight, which can make motivating myself a little bit harder. I don't have any serious health issues, and I don't have trouble fitting into clothes or walking up and down stairs. I'm…

Running, definitely. It feels amazing, is helping with my asthma, and keeps me in decent shape. :)

Every other day. It gives your muscles time to recover. :)

Again, it's the internet. If you post a picture of someone's body and say this is what women should aspire to, people have a right to post their opinion about that. I didn't insult the OP, I simply said that's not a look that I aspire to, and whether you agree with that or not, i DO have a right to say it.
-
It depends on what you define as "curves." To me, she does look less feminine than someone with a higher body fat percentage, though I wouldn't go so far as to say she looks like a man. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose, it's all a matter of what is ideal to the individual.
-
Looks great ON HER, but definitely not the look I'm going for at all. ETA: There's nothing wrong with not wanting this look for yourself. That doesn't mean the people who feel that way are rude or out to offend the OP or the woman in the picture. It just means that that's not a look we want for ourselves. If you post…

1. Not everyone here started out "fat." I'm 160 pounds and just looking to lose some weight to get closer to a healthier BMI. 2. Not everyone wants advice on their food. You can count calories and figure out basic nutrition without having other users comment on every little thing you put in your mouth. 3. New question: Why…

Great post! :) You're absolutely right, we don't have to kill ourselves to lose weight just because we're short. I'm 5'3 and lose steadily at 1650 calories, PLUS I eat back my exercise calories. I think people get so caught up in trying to get the fastest results possible that they don't want to listen or accept that there…

I still struggle with this sometimes. Part of how I avoid it is by making my weigh-in day sometime during the weekend, usually Saturday. Knowing I'm going to do that reminds me to keep my sodium down and watch my calories so water weight doesn't show up on the scale. Then after I've weighed in and the weight has gone down,…

Agreed. And not everyone wants muscle definition. I hate the term "skinny fat" because it comes off as kind of insulting. You're thin, overweight, or somewhere in between. But it doesn't make sense to look at someone who worked hard to get down to a healthy weight and say they're still "skinny fat" because they don't lift…

Thanks! I just got Netflix yesterday, I'll definitely check it out. :)
