Sorry, I just joined a gym recently and am VERY new to gym etiquette. Obviously I know people exercise there and that's what it's for, but I don't know what's normal and what's not and I'm terrified of being stared at and it being obvious that I don't know what the heck I'm doing, lol.

I'm mindful of them, but I don't stress over them too much. The only one I really pay attention to is sodium, because I know if I'm not careful that can shoot up really fast and make me retain water, which of course shows up on the scale. :(

I have almost all of her DVDs and I LOVE them. I always lose weight and tone up when I do them consistently. :) My favorites are 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30.

I'm not anti-lifting, I'm just saying it's not the only way to get results. I strength train, but with low weights and high reps. It's toned my arms, and it's made my lose inches off my thighs. So for ME, it works. I can't speak for anyone else. But this silly idea that all women need to lift heavy to see results is…

But not everyone wants to, or even LIKES to. And it's not the only way to get results.

Amen!!! Love this post! :)

To be honest, I do view them differently. I just don't see how it's necessary to drastically alter your body to get results. So many people, of EVERY size, do this with diet and exercise alone. That's not to say they are better or more admirable, just that their approach makes more sense to me than surgery.

This. Find something you like that burns calories and do it. No one's method is any better or worse than anyone else's if your goal is simply to lose weight.

Can do! I love yoga and try to do it a few times a week. I'm much stronger and more flexible when I do that consistently, and I get the overall look that I'm going for. I also have an app on my phone with lots of bodyweight exercises to get me started after I finish Ripped in 30.

That's my goal! :) I know girls can't bulk the way men do without some serious work, but I don't even want a whole bunch of definition. My goal is just to get smaller and have SLIGHTLY defined arms and legs. Getting closer to my goal weight will get me halfway there, and strength and endurance training will hopefully do…

You could, but then you would create too big a deficit and possibly stall your progress. That's why people recommend losing only 2 pounds or less per week. Also, if you're very overweight, it is normal to lose more than that early on in your weight loss journey. But if you're not too far off from your goal (30-40 pounds to…

Unfortunately I have no trainer, and my gym doesn't offer any. :( That's why weight lifting is so nerve-wracking for me, I have no reference for what I'm doing except what I've read online.
-
I want an answer to this too, the idea of going into the weight room at my gym terrifies me. :(
-
That's a relief, I already ordered New Rules of Lifting for Women and I'm expecting it in the mail soon. :) Just trying to understand this whole process and what works best. This is all incredibly knew to me and I still have a lot to learn.

I started Week 2 today! :) It was rough, but I made it!

I don't think you're starving yourself, but I do think that if you're doing everything right and the number's not moving, adjusting your calorie goal can be a good thing to try. I also suggest giving it a little more time than two weeks. You ARE losing weight (not sure how 8kg translates into pounds), but if you don't have…

Today is a rest day for me, but I might do some yoga later to stretch out all the muscles I worked this week.

Thank you both so much! I know I need to suck it up and just do it, I'm just so much more confident with cardio workouts than I am with strength. I'm sure I'll get over it, but I'm absolutely paralyzed with fear anytime I'm near the weight section.
-
I drink it normally, with cream and a little sugar (sometimes Truvia). All told it's around 70-80 calories. I make it work with my goal so I can have my coffee and lose weight too. :)

I do it and love it! It's faster than regular yoga, but not so fast that a beginner couldn't keep up. It's cardio in that it gets your heart rate up, and strength because it forces you to support your own body weight. Basically, it's a win/win!

Here's the plan for this week Monday: Couch to 5k Week 2 and Ripped in 30, Week 2 Tuesday: Ripped in 30 Wednesday: Couch to 5k, Ripped in 30 Thursday: Ripped in 30 Friday: Ripped in 30, Couch to 5k I'm trying to do a mix of cardio and endurance training. I like low weights/high reps. Eventually when I get better at running…

I've done it before and am doing it again now. Today is my last day on Week 1 and I LOVE this DVD! It's a really good workout and I like seeing myself improve as I keep doing the moves.

I'm not a mom (yet), but I am a super busy college student. I don't know how I tune out for my home workouts exactly, I just...do. I know that in that moment, that is my "me time." Sometimes it is the only part of my day where I can focus 100% on me and my own body and what it needs. You have to get past the idea that…

I've done it at least twice, I lost count after awhile, lol. My advice is to push through the initial discomfort. I don't know your fitness level, but if you're not in great shape yet you may not make it through the first workout on Day 1. Don't let this get you down, you will improve leaps and bounds in the 10 days you…

You should be getting as close to your goal number as you possibly can without going over. I try to stay within 50 calories above or below.
-
I'm 5'3 but I'm losing steadily at 1650 calories. And yes, I do eat back my exercise calories. :) Being short doesn't mean you have to eat at 1200.

When I cut down on dairy, my complexion cleared up drastically. I did it mainly by switching from regular milk to almond milk in my cereal and milkshakes. Drinking lots of water helps me, too.

I don't just mean anonymous Amazon reviews. I'm talking about weight loss and fitness blogs where people post photos of their results. And I speak from personal experience because I've always seen positive results and lost inches when doing these videos consistently. So yes, I will do what I'm doing, because it gets the…

I got Jillian's 3lb. weights, the same ones they use in the video. :) I might move up to 5lbs. if I need to as I progress.

Honestly, my information comes from Google. I have no scientific studies backing this up, nor do I claim to. But if you look up reviews on Jillian Michaels' videos from real people on their own unbiased blogs, those are the results you see. This forum is for getting and giving information. If you have no help to give, I…
