  • Bottom line though - don't think gluten is the problem at all. The problem is she has been starving her body for so long that when she eats a little bit more all her organs go "Yippee! Fuel, we are gunna hold on to this so we are ready for the upcoming famine".
  • OK - here's the thing. I just ran your (basic) numbers through scooby BMR: 1580 TDEE (and this is desk job - sedentary, no exercise) 1896 - would be higher given you are doing cardio (don't do so much cardio - do weights) Calorie goal at 20 per cent reduction 1517. And as you don't have much to lose you are probably better…
  • You can lose weight without exercise - but exercise will improve your cardiovascular health and make you feel better :) And if you do weight training, it will make you look better as well. Cereal is actually not a very good option at all - for any meal. Lean protein, vegies, wholegrain etc.
  • I did see your diary before you closed it but didn't have it in me to respond. As the parent of a small girl, it scared me ****less! And the fact you have closed it scares me even more. Please, think of the people who love you.
  • What did MFP calculate???
  • Eh, everyone;s different :) depends on height/weight etc...I kept getting interrupted by kids, so that didn't help!
  • I did wii zumba today and added it to my exercises. I wore a HRM and it wasn't that much for 30 mins - about 110 cals for me. I should add Zumba itself burns a lot more - just not on the Wii! I think I logged 700 for a 90 min class a few weeks back.
  • Because your body needs fuel for basic functions - respiratory, circulatory, digestive, brain cells etc etc. It can;t do that at 45 net cals.
  • No. No. Yes. You're welcome.
  • Summer is much easier for me too. I am more active, head to the beach with the kids a lot, eat seafood and salad etc etc. Winter, however, I crave comfort food...
  • I didn't see any bashing - I saw a lot of people giving you the advice - that you asked for - that "dieting" is a bad idea and you are better off making ongoing lifestyle changes. I did, however, see you asking for advice then getting all shirty when the advice didn't concur with the decision you had obviously already made…
  • I would suggest you track sodium and try to keep it below 2300 mg..all that ham, veg sausages etc could mean you are retaining water...
  • Sigh, another thread where someone asks for advice, then rejects everything that doesn't agree with what they have already got their mind set on.
  • Avocado, dairy, nuts, yoghurt etc etc. My diary is always open if you want to check it out - I'm maintaining now but was on about 1700/day when losing weight. And, quite frankly, the main difference now and then is wine and chocolate have been added (whooppeee!!!) (Also, I am a snacker)
  • Not enough food - you are 18 and you are setting yourself up to stuff your metabolism and be a lifetime yo-yo dieter. And if you want to tone, you need more protein and good fats.
  • !'m 44 years old, 5'9" and my BMR is around 1450. I started here in August needing to lose about 20 pounds, and started on 1200 cals. Soon realised that made me hungry, tired and stabby. So starting upping cals. By the end of my journey, I was losing weight on about 1700 cals a day (plus exercise) and was much happier.…
  • 44 years old, 5'9", 148 pounds. Switched to maintenance a few weeks before Christmas. Put on a few pounds over the holidays, but back down now and maintaining around 2000.
  • Totally makes sense. And guess what, if you eat greek yogurt instead of M&Ms, it will keep you fuller for longer as well. Win/Win!
  • BMR has nothing to do with workouts. Her BMR is high because she is young and overweight. The fact that her TDEE is not much higher than her BMR suggests she does not work out much as all.. As to the original question - all you can do is experiment. Try around 1400 to start, eat back exercise cals. If you start feeling…
  • Wow - I bet your **** doesn't stink either
  • I didn't ditch anything - just had less of it. And I stopped picking food of the kids' plates instead of "wasting" it :)
  • Was about to suggest you track sodium. Hate it when I am beaten to the punch :)
  • This is such a great post. I realise I have never been in your boat, but she has. And came out the other side, wiser - and leaner. Ask your doctor for a referral to a shrink who specialises in food disorders. Honestly, I came here today just to check back into your thread - because I am genuinely worried about you and I…
  • This is not really true if the OP is morbidly obese - the body only holds on to stored fat when fat % is lower. That said - 800 cals a day is probably why he's cranky and everything feels hopeless. To reallyfatslob - Check out the success stories thread, I'm sure you will fund people who have been in similar places and who…
  • There is no reason to go on such a low cal diet without GB surgery - for starters, with the surgery, the way your body processes food completely changes, also, you are under very close supervision from your surgeon, dietician and everyone else! I supported a good friend through the process, and even if your insurance would…
  • Doing a quick calculation use scoobys http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ - and putting your exercise as moderate - I get a TDEE of 2467 and daily cals of 1973 (whichis a 20 per cent reduction) So you are on the money, except I think you got confused about your TDEE. And yes, eat that each day - that averages…
  • Cut about 20 percent from your TDEE and eat that - and don't eat back exercise cals. ANd please recheck your TDEE - if you are on your feet 32 hours a week I doubt it is that low. My BMR is around 1450 and my TDEE is 2250 - and I don't have a physical job, just chasing kids and doing planned exercise. And I am considerably…
  • This - I initially had sedentary - I work from home around kids - and was starving! So I put on a pedometer for a couple of days at home with my four year old and did about 13000 steps each day. And that was only between 9am (put it on after school drop off" and 5.30 (took it off when I put on my jammies!) And this was…
  • Can you take little snacks, like almonds etc to eat while you are on your feet?
  • But if the op is on her feet 32 hours a week for her job, she is probably active, even before exercise...
