Scooby's or MFP
Hi all, I have been maintaining for a few months and am now working on lowering bf % through more strength training etc. I do weights 3-4 times a week and cardio (jogging, walking, cross trainer etc) in between,so my weekly ratio is about 50-50 weights and cardio. Scooby's calculator (if I set it to lose fat, gain muscle)…

Sodium
Hi all, I have my sodium set to 2300 mg (per Mayo website) and I must admit I struggle to stay under that. I don't think I eat too much processed food - although the last week or so doesn't look great. Lazy holidays has us eat a lot of bought salads etc! But I do enjoy salty food such as feta and parmesan cheese, olives,…

Christmas weight - and losing it quickly!
This was kind of interesting to me. I didn't log for four days - Christmas Day, Wed, Thus and Fri. And I ate. A lot. My Christmas food theory is that you eat and drink everything in sight till the Christmas treats run out, then you get back on track. Anyway, my weight the Friday before Christmas was 66.7 kgs. Then on…

Detox diets don't work - no ****
"And the more expensive the product is to buy, the more people are likely to believe it works, Professor Brookes says. “It’s the placebo effect, people will actually believe it works if it costs more and has a horrible taste because they think it must be good for you." from…

effects of low resting heart rate
OK, so I have a low resting heartrate (around 53-54bpm), I wore a halter for 24 hours a few years ago and the diagnosis was "unexplained bradycardia". Whatever. When I exercise, my heart rate goes up reasonably fast to the 150s (sometimes late 160s) but drops down reasonably quickly too once I stop running/lfiting/climbing…

HRM vs Curves Smart tag
Beware hardcore fitness experts - stupid and meandering question to follow..... So, I have been going to Curves for about eight months now and use the Curves Smart tag (yeah, yeah, I know, but it suits me for now - when my membership expires in April, I intend to head to a more conventional gym). Since getting the tag, my…

Christmas functions...
Just looked at my diary and saw I have THREE work-related Christmas functions next week. One dinner, two lunches. Then I have two lunches the following week! All at fantastic cafes/restaurants so I don't want to deprive myself. Will need to up the exercise I guess :)

My NSV
This morning, my eight-year old son put his arms around me to give me a hug and said "wow mum, you've got skinny, I can nearly touch my elbows behind your back". Awwww

maintaining while reducing BF%
Hi all, I am just about at maintenance after losing 11 kilos since mid-July, but I want to improve my BF %. My stats Female, 44 years old, 5'9, 69 kgs (actually hovering between 68-69 - my goal is 68 or 150 pounds, but as long as I stay around 68-70, I'm cool). BF % early this year 31 %, today 25.7 %. I would like to get…

Pre-pregnancy weight!
So - my son is now 8.5 and my daughter is nearly 4 and I am, for the first time, at the same weight I was before I fell pregnant with number 1. (I actually lost seven kilos in the first trimester due to morning sickness - but I don't want to be there again!) Two more kilos and I will be the lightest I have been since my…

Any Aussies doing EM2WL?
I have been reading up on Eat More to Weigh Less, and it seems to make sense. Plus, eat more? Yay! Anyone else here following this plan?

ew member - looking forward to eating more!
Hi all, I'm up to the dreaded final four kilos and am finding it harder to stay motivated - after losing 8kilos since the start of August (five with MFP), So, I would love to eat more and weigh less :) I am 44 years old, 5'9" and 72 kilos (about 158 pounds), with a goal of 68 kilos (150 pounds) According to Scooby's…

Tired and hungry after weeks of feeling great!
Hi all...I have been on the weight loss regime for about three months now and lost 7-8 kilos (15-17 pounds) - 5 kilos on MFP. My goal was 1.5 pounds initially but I soon upped to 1 pound a week. Been hitting that reasonably easily easily as well. I only have 3.5-4kgs to go (7-8-ish pounds) and all of a sudden in the past…

Lemon-blueberry coconut flour muffins - YUMMY
Just made these http://dashingdish.com/recipe/lemon-blueberry-muffins/ I made 9 uffins rather than the 6 the recipe suggests. And I didn't have stevia, sop used splenda; and no fresh blueberries so subsituted froze. They were small, but only 62 cals each and SO filling! Recommend A+ (Even the kids scoffed them)

activity level
Hi all, I have set my activity level at light - I work at home on the computer a fair bit, but also do household chores, walk kids to school, walk to the shops at times and on Mondays and Fridays I have my three-year old home with me, so my day also includes lots of chasing after her. I wore a pedometer for the first time…

The home straight - time to up cals?
Hi all, I started thisMFP journey with about 20 pounds to lose (after losing 6 pounds already) - I now have between 9-10 (depending on which scales I believe). My net calorie goal is 1460 - for a 1 pound a week weight loss, and I must admit it hasn't been hard (with an extra 300-ish cals a day from exercise) Now I am in…

Getting close to goal weight...time to slowly increase cals?
Hi all, I'm after some input. I am 44-year old woman, 5 foot nine and 73 kg (about 161 pounds), 28.8 %body fat started this weight loss journey in July at 80 kg and 31 per cent BF. My goal is between 68-70 kgs (25 percent BF)and my MFP settings are "lightly active" - ie work from home but also chase around after kids etc.…

Zumba - calories burned
I'm off to a 90-minute Zumba class for charity tonight. I suspect there will be lots of fun and games, with some Zumba thrown in. Zumba is not in the exercise database! I don't have a HRM, I do have a pedometer with a calorie counter. How do I guestimate?(and I am happy for some guesswork, because I know it depends on so…

Curvessmart calorie burn estimate
OK, so I go to Curves 3-4 times a week, alternating with a brisk 45-60 minute walk on the other days. I recently got a Curvessmart tag and it is estimating my calorie burn at anywhere between 311-450 cals/half hour. I tend to just put a flat 300 on MFP because I don't trust it! I know with the tag, I am working harder than…
