There's a setting for sleep sensitivity...maybe try setting it to normal instead of sensitive and see if that helps? I have a Flex too and I sleep with mine on (normal sleep setting), but it doesn't count any steps while I'm in bed, and I toss and turn a lot!

Good point, AnvilHead, yes of course molecular composition is the same blended or unblended, and the food still contains the same amount of energy before it goes into your body whether it's whole or chopped up. As for chewing, it's part of the whole digestion process (enzymes in the saliva start to break down food in your…

1) TEF is not negligible according to some studies http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11838888 http://www.foodandnutritionresearch.net/index.php/fnr/article/view/5144 2) Processing a food means altering it from it's natural state in some way. For example, blending bananas and strawberries into a smoothie is processing…

Actually, even if 2 foods contain the same amount of energy (calories), the body uses different amount of energy to digest different kinds of food. And the more processed a food is, the less processing needs to be done by the body (so fewer calories are expended to digest). And different macronutrients require different…

I'm so glad you responded uptownplum, great to get information from someone who works with educating children about diet and exercise. And thank you everyone, looks like the overall consensus is that it's none of my business and I should let it go and leave it to the parent, coach, doctor. I suppose that seems…

Yes I figured they'd be doing some kind of running too since it's supposed to be helping them get ready and stay in shape for sports, so probably she should talk with the coach. Like other have said, it's not really my business, but I am curious. Good advice for getting cleared by a doctor too since she is so young, just…

Yes, definitely don't want to overstep my bounds so I won't press the issue hard with my friend. But would still like to know if adolescents/developing teenagers can/should weightlift and keep track of their calories like we adults do?

Hi, I'm 32, 5'3" 114lbs, and can do 1-2 real pull-ups by myself, but have the goal of increasing to at least 5 by the end of the year. I'm fortunate that my gym has an assisted pull up machine so that helped me in the beginning. Try doing "negative" pull-ups...have your boyfriend lift you up to the top of the bar, and…

Don't get married. You basicially described my relationship before I got married to my now ex-husband. I settled because I thought "Eh, I guess this is good enough." If you have doubts now, listen to your gut, marriage is not a solution to your problem. You can't "help" him change if he doesn't want to, and it seems like…

Another way to spice up oatmeal that will keep you full until lunchtime...add a scoop of protein powder after you cook it! Just use more water, heat in microwave, and stir in the protein goodness. Cinnamon-swirl or vanilla protein powders work great!
