  • My horses and I live in central CA about 45 minutes south of Yosemite. And wouldn't you know it? I still haven't ridden there yet. :grumble: I am fortunate enough to not have to board my guys and can walk out the door and visit them whenever I like. I would go crazy if I couldn't! In the summer time most of the young ones…
  • It's refreshing to read a post about being bucked off and it ending on such a happy note! Glad you didn't get hurt, that's a long way down! I slid off my Perchie once and landed funny on my hip, I jumped right back up to get back on but then decided to sit back down for a while. All while he stood there looking at…
  • Yay!!!! That is very exciting, congratulations! =)
  • ^ That's always so hard, good luck to you! =) My goal is to have my Appy colt going well. Sure, I've been riding him, but I want it to be like I can go out and hop on without doing the groundwork first. He's out on pasture right now and will stay for at least a month or two, so I might be having to revisit a lot of things…
  • Being a western rider, I've always mounted from the ground. Granted, I've always usually had shorter horses. We do a lot of back country riding/camping and not being able to mount from the ground would not be helpful in situations you need to get off and walk. Although, I have used the occasional rocks to give us both a…
  • ^ Thanks on my Appy! =) A squeeze can have anywhere from 72-92, 110-120 pound bales. I've called all the hay people I know and they either won't have any til mid summer or have OUTRAGEOUS prices. So we've been nickel and diming it at the feed store. Luckily I found some people with 40 acres to mow down, so 4 went there and…
  • I had to send one of my guys on an indefinite feed lease yesterday. I'm devastated. I've been a bawl bag for 2 days. But, it's a really nice lady that just put down a 33 year old Appy and she loves her horses as much as I do. 18.50 we just paid for a bale of alfalfa. Insane.
  • Gotta love our ponies, always keeping us on our toes! =) A suggestion for while you're leading him is to get him to move sideways to "unlock" so to speak. It usually seems to work my guys, who sometimes do the same thing. The crossing of the front legs gets them moving again. And it might work under saddle if he's good on…
  • No Californian's? I'm from central CA and enjoy trail riding and pack trips. Would love to get into team penning/sorting and gymkhanas. Family combined, we own 9 horses, but personally, I have 3. All of my guys were rescues of some sort. Bandit: PMU Percheron cross, 8 years old, gray. Dominic: WA Rez mustang pony, 14?…
  • Add me to the list of horse crazy gals on here! Would also love to have some support from fellow horse folks. :) My family combined total is 8, but my main guys are Dominc, Bandit, and Bullet. Dominic is a 13 year old mustang, Bandit an 8 year old PMU Percheron cross, and Bullet a 4 year old black leopard Appaloosa. I'm an…
  • Count me in as well! My dad is a vet, so I've grown up around a lot of animals, but mostly horses and dogs. We currently have 11 on our property right now. Which is a combo of my 3, my boyfriends 5, and the rest of my familie's. My rides are Bandit, a PMU percheron, Dominic, an Indian Reservation Mustang, and Bullet, a…
  • I'm more confident in winter also, because I get to wear sweatshirts. My upper body I dislike the most. My wish for next summer is that I will actually be able to wear a cute tank top, instead of a tee shirt, and not get a horrific farmer's tan. So yeah, definitely more confident in fall/winter/early spring.
  • Thank you. I was just curious.
  • I am! But I ride western so I can't help you in the jods department!
  • Just curious as to what difference it makes if you log your water intake or not? Does it show a difference somehow, or is it just for you to keep track of? This sounds really stupid, but I'm just not sure how to word it :embarassed:!
  • I loved my elliptical but it broke =(. A cheapie one I guess. Wish I still had one as I get bored on the treadmill too. I don't see how it would make your legs bigger, I think that's a myth for sure. Definitely more refined, though.
