I am a hummus connoisseur! This is the best recipe I've found: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2013/01/ethereally-smooth-hummus/ You should try to use dried chickpeas. You can cook them in a crockpot if you don't want think about it--it just takes forever and you need to use a TON of water. Save the water to enhance soups…

I love Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything" and "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian"

I literally had the same experience in college. And contrary to what everyone else has said, they probably are judging you. This is frequently how disordered eating works for most people. I am just leaning to rewire my self-hate response that I developed when going to the gym in college. Is there some other way you can…

I had NO DONUTS! I am so sad. I did have some beer and definitely put it in my log.

Also, I know you have a kid, so this might make this harder, but find a bakery near your house/work and possibly a butcher. Worst case scenario--find a high end grocery store. Now that I buy my bread at a bakery, I literally cannot eat bread from the supermarket (even the bread cooked in-house). The meat at a butcher--even…

1) What made you want to change? Discussions of food culture and general overeducated yuppiness--Michael Pollan and Mark Bittman have had an effect on the way I eat. Living in Italy also introduced me to a very specific food culture wherein my body felt amazing, I ate a ton but lost weight, and everything tasted amazing. I…

Hey-oh! 5'2", 186 lbs (10lbs more than my usual 177lb or so), 25 yo. I gained weight over the summer because I found myself at the beginning of a new relationship and then in Italy. So I call it my love + gelato weight. I lost some weight when I was in undergrad thanks to depression and my dad dying. I was my smallest…

I'm not afraid of going over as much as I am afraid of gorging. Somedays I am not hungry at all, but today I am crazy hungry.

I shall have two beers because they come with my ticket. They should pack a punch because I haven't had a drink in two week. Being the DD helps control how much I drink.

I am doing a freebie tonight! But I just don't want to be like 1000 over because I am going apple picking and want an apple cider donut, too! I'm just really hungry tonight and drinking makes me want to eat EVERYTHIIIIING (partially because my stomach doesn't respond well to booze and food helps.

Hey! I looked at a couple days of your food diary. I have one question: can you cook and do you have time to cook? I am not diabetic but I am more or less on a reduced carb diet give or take 100g/day and I find that when I cook my own food, I eat less carbs. I also eat less processed food when I cook a lot. I still eat…

Perhaps join a rec team like soccer? Ballroom dancing. Swing dancing burns a lot of calories and is super fun!

In MASSIVE amounts, tofu can have adverse effects because of phytoestrogens, but consumption levels have to be very high. In fact, few experience problems with eating soy in China and other East Asian cultures that eat tofu frequently. I would wager that the nitrates in bacon and other cured meats eaten for breakfast have…

Tofu crumbled with a fork and put in a pan with some combination of sauteed vegetables and hot sauce on top (cholula is my fave). The tofu has a similar texture to scrambled eggs. I love it.

haha lol makronutreents r da bomb!

Do you eat tofu? Sounds weird, but tofu crumbled with a fork has a similar texture to scrambled eggs. I often sautee some vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach) and then mix the tofu in an wait until it warms up. Salt, pepper, and hot sauce (Cholula and Sriacha) aren't necessary, but add to the flavor.

I have fatty liver disease. So does my mom. It's hereditary. My MD told me "Don't become an alcoholic and don't become a diabetic and get your liver enzymes checked each month." So, don't become diabetic? Losing weight (or maintaining current weight) is the solution.

FYI: A lot of really strong beers come in 8oz serving sizes, so they are high in cal, but smaller serving size. A pint of 21% beer will probably inhibit your ability to drive home!

Newcomer! Too bad today doesn't count--I worked out so hard. Week # 1 -- October 1st -- Goal 200 minutes: Mon: Tue: Wed: Thur: Fri: Sat: Sun:

Do you live in a city? I live in medium sized city and I also hate running (with a passion) and swimming and the gym, but I love biking. I never go out and bike for exercise. Instead, I bike to work and back and to different social events. As a means of transportation, biking means you are doing something as exercise and…

They started that way, but they aren't made from uggo carrots anymore--at least large national brands. They are grown to be baby carrots now that they are so popular and they are covered with chlorine. http://www.snopes.com/food/tainted/carrots.asp

Girl, you need a freezer! That sucks!
-
Baby carrots are raw and don't contain chemicals, but they are processed. Like many processed vegetables, baby carrots are washed in chlorine to kill germs. Baby carrots are made out of a variety of carrot known as the Imperator. They are bred to grow faster and ripen quickly, and because of this, they only have 70% of the…

Agree to disagree on baby carrots--to me, they taste like nothing. But, again, I grew up eating whole carrots raw with the skin. My mom would given them to us and tell us to eat them like rabbits (cute, right?) so I am more inclined to like raw carrots.

I'm sure you know this, but in case you don't: frozen veg are wayyyyy better for you than canned (no sodium, more nutrients) and oftentimes better for you than fresh veg because they are flash frozen when the veg are very young. And the frozen vegetable selection is much better than it used to be. If you go to a slightly…

Half the battle is knowing how to cook well, I suppose. That makes it a lot easier to eat good food!
