Wow some wonderful success stories and strategies here.

When you have an autoimmune disease (hashimotos and many others out there), many times, there IS an environmental cause. Mine is gluten. Or at least one of mine. I cut gluten completely out of my diet and I am now taking half the amount of thyroid meds that I was on and I feel much better. I told my doctor and she said "Oh…

Wow, you look like a different person!

You were super cute when you carried more weight but you do look fabulous now AND you appear to be healthier. :)

Hey taste have you heard of agave nectar? It's low gylcemic, but it tastes GREAT. I can't live without it.

Sounds like it could be hormonal to me BUT since you just had a baby I'm not sure but you might have to wait another month or two? to get an accurate pic o what your endocrine system is doing? Have the doc check your TSH, free t3, free t4, a1c and do some research to find out what the bloodwork is for adrenals. Get an…

OMG. I'd shrivel and die without eggs!

Holey ****! WOW Girl you look amazing!

I am hypoglycemic and had insulin dependent, gestational diabetes with both pregnancies. My mom is a type 2 diabetic and controls hers with diet and oral meds. She is in her normal weight for her height/age. You can friend me if you like, we can share notes! The biggest reason I'm here on MFP is to get healthier so that my…

You can't wear a skirt? Hun, honestly go eat some real food, eat your calories, and yes, see your doctor so you can get a realistic goal in a realistic time frame. You CAN wear a skirt. Lots of people much heavier than you wear skirts. ;)

Much of what I eat is because of necessity (I cannot eat dairy, gluten, soy, or legumes) and I am mostly concerned with calories. That said, I've always been one to "care" about nutrition, even when I wasn't counting calories so I have some decent eating habits. Healthier choices also tend to be more filling and therefore…

My mind might work different than yours but right now, in the beginning, I know I NEED to see real change in the way clothes fit and hopefully the scale as well. I NEED this to keep me motivated. I know that over time, I've got to relax a little or I won't be able to do this long term. But I'd say when you are first…

I keep having this recurring thought that the doctor knows good and well that he's telling her to do something she probably won't/can't do. She might TRY for a week or so, then fall off the wagon, then he'll say "she had no self discipline" and blame the failure on HER. 1000 cals a day is hard to do long-term. I can't do…

All these people who are hammering this guy because he says his quality of life was lacking need to remember one thing. And that is, whatever THEIR weakness is. We all have one. And did anyone read the article I quoted from the OP above? It's really interesting!

Wow Evilone! I just read your profile and I'm very impressed at your determination! I'm also blown away at your honesty, and happy your cheat day is working for you so well! Congratulations, keep up the good work, and don't listen to naysayers because clearly, what you are doing is working for YOU!

I particularly like this paragraph: If the effect of alcohol consumption on insulin sensitivity doesn't impress you, then consider the fact that studies have consistently shown that moderate drinkers live longer than non-drinkers. This can be mainly attributed to a lowered risk of cardiovascular disease. However, alcohol…

Totally agree. Everyone is different. Dude likes his beer. Hey, at least it's respectable beer and not pee in a bottle! Cheers man, I wish I could have a good hoppy brew with you but alas I'm toasting with my gluten free watered down version. It's really not too bad though, it does have a little flavor. So here's to you.…

I love both these ideas! And I think I will do the takeout thing and just TELL my friends the truth! I have no self control so I'm getting half my meal boxed up to prevent me from over-eating. LOVE IT! And it's a great idea to eat a little something ahead too. THANKS for the ideas, I'm glad you posted this thread!

Good Luck! I think you are in the right place.

AhHa! I'm not the only one! Yep, I'm educated but a sahm so the free thing is definitely a factor. But WW didn't work. I was doing what they said, but it didn't WORK!

I second!

I agree. It's ok to eat 1000 on a single day or two but long term you aren't doing yourself any favors. If you are full for the day and you only hit 1000, so what? But if you aren't full, you've eaten ONLY 1000 calories today and you feel like eating your own shoe, THEN you DO have a problem. Set your MFP diary up to lose…

TOTALLY agree! WW tries to "dumb it down" I think, with their Points Plus program, but for me, their simplicity made it more complicated. Because it didn't make any sense in my head. I joined mostly for the comradery and found I wasn't really socializing anyway at the meetings. I'm not saying WW doesn't work, it just…

Fabulous! woohoo!

That's not too fast especially since you've been slow and steady the whole time. I say enjoy this little victory!

I have a kitchen scale that I used when I made handmade soap. Gotta measure lye to the gram. I've used it a couple times to weigh foods, and if I stall I will definitely start weighing everything. Thanks for the tip! I have but do NOT use my little measuring devices so I should def get those out and start using them. Great…

WOOHOO!!!

Ooo good idea and I need the extra potassium and sodium from lite salt anyway! I'm adding cukes to the commissary list right NOW!
-
Wonderful transformation! I'll bet you just feel way better too - that's what I'm after more than anything. I want to feel good again!

I'm sure the WW plan is working for lots and lots of people, but I'm pretty darn good about food choices, even when I'm not on a diet. What I'm not so good at is portion control. Especially when I don't have to "count" it. There's not a huge difference between logging foods from WW to MFP BUT for ME and what I EAT, I can…
