Pdworkman, Thank you for the post. It's not that I want to take sides with one or the other BUT my husband, who is very healthy and slim and has been running short distances ( 3-7ish miles) for years, could not run over 18 using deprivation training. He found that when he was trying to run that long a distance, he has to…

Jonathan, thank you for your input, VERY helpful.

I drink entirely too much coffee, lol!

I get nauseated when I drink green tea too. I can drink most teas but white/green tea makes me ill.

Summertime, it looks like everyone is different! I'm going to suggest to listen to your own body - my hubs learned on an 18 mile run that he has to plan for that. The furthest he's run now is 23 miles. He eats more carbs for a couple nights before a big run but the very night before he likes cheap spaghetti and bread the…

This is the best, most inspiring explanation I've ever read about eating the right amount of calories! Thank you for such a short and sweet explanation!

What testing did they do? Get your bloodwork results. Read them yourself. Many docs are still using old science. If they properly checked your thyroid they should have checked your TSH, free t3 and free t4. TSH should be below 2. Many docs don't diagnose under-active thyroid until TSH is over 4 or 5. That's way too high.…

I thought that I was one of those that just has a very hard time losing, especially after not losing for 5 weeks on weight watchers! But since I switched to measuring/weighing and counting every single calorie, I'm losing at the rate I set! It's freakin awesome, isn't it?!

I did not know that lifetime members get etools for free as long as they maintain. That's good info! Thank you! It restores a bit of faith in their system for me.

wow, Wow, WOW! Woweee you look great and your story is very inspiring! Congratulations and thank you so much for sharing!

Yep! BUT if someone's been eating high processed foods and sweets from a bag, just getting them to eat grapes and bananas is a good thing. I see where WW could be a really great starting point for someone who needs to totally change the way they think about food. Here, if they ask certain questions, they will probably be…
-
Totally agree. WW has it's merits and it is great for people who are just getting started in their weight loss journey. The meetings are motivating, the staff helpful and friendly, and they teach about healthy vs unhealthy foods in a non-threatening environment. Here on MFP, a newbie can ask a genuine question and get…

I too came from weight watcher to MFP. Here's some of my reasons: 1) I personally wanted complete control of my diet, not someone's watered down version of calorie counting. For instance, I do not like the fact that a banana has no point value, and that there is no way to force it, even if I wanted. 2) They push the active…

BHAHAHA! Love this!

I've been "treating" myself to a beer if I stayed far enough under caloric intake that I can "afford" it. I have lost three and a half pounds in two weeks. So, it does appear to work for me. If I could afford more, I'd have two tonight but alas I have eaten most of my calories today!

Dont give up. Go get new workout clothes for your lighter body and put them on tomorrow. Even if you don't work out. Enjoy the new clothes that fit your body NOW, that won't fit if you give up.

I think what a lot of people are trying to say is that you would do yourself a huge favor to learn more about what carbohydrates really ARE, what foods have the most nutritional value, and what your body needs. For instance, some people have a predisposition to hypoglycemia and need to eat more balanced meals with healthy,…

Wow, lookin' good, keep it up!

Every Saturday morning after I get up and have breakfast. I know most say to do it on an empty stomach but that's how I started because I would weigh at weight watchers on saturday mornings at my meetings. I quit ww and I like it here much better, but keeping that same weighing schedule.

hypothyroidism - did they diagnose you with hashimotos? If so, that's a definite warning sign that you are gluten intolerant. IBS too? Yep! Time to give it a go. You won't know until you try it for awhile.

this lifting heavy sounds like a winner to me. I'm going to take this advice myself soon. I bought the book "the new Rules of Lifting for Women" and plan to put that to work on my body soon!

that's where I first started putting on the weight was on my tummy. First on, last off?
-
There's no WAY for me to meet my caloric restrictions or meet my exercise goals WITHOUT pre-planning. However, I DO often pre-plan and then I edit said plan, depending on how my day is going!
-
I looked at your diary and I think you are doing a GREAT job with food choices. It's OK to have a cookie once in awhile, for instance. HOWEVER, since you are having issues with hunger, my only real suggestion is to replace the cookies with some meat or protein of some sort. You could snack on a couple slices of lean meat,…

I've had days where I felt full so I stopped and then I found I was a little hungrier the next day so I ate more. My goal is to kind of average it all out. If you had a couple hundred calories left over from yesterday, well there's an extra serving of carbs you can have tomorrow if you're really hungry and want more to…

Nice ideas here!

Open your diary and I'll take a look. I know I was having issues last week and 1) I was trying to lose weight too quickly. People recommended that I reset my weight loss goal to 1 pound a week. and 2) I wasn't getting enough long-lasting filling foods like fats/protein. For me, if I eat too many carbs and not enough…
