I'm a newbie too. I keep reminding myself that the people who can do totally amazing things right now and make me feel a bit intimidated were once beginners too. That helps me put things in perspective that it's not reasonable to compare myself to them. And I motivate myself with the thought that if I stick with it and…

I have pretty good luck finding stuff I like at Nordstrom Rack on clearance. It's always my first stop when I need something new. I've also found a few things at Marshall's, but they are hit and miss. I definitely want to keep my prices low because I am losing and don't want to invest much in workout attire that hopefully…

An immersion blender is inexpensive and super handy for making paleo-friendly condiments/sauces like mayo, etc.. Healthy fats - coconut oil, animal fats, etc.. I think Practical Paleo would be a good intro cookbook. The recipes are really good, not complicated and it has a lot of great information about the health benefits…

I like to use butter/Boston lettuce for wraps. Wraps are great. You can do so much with them. I make "tacos" subbing lettuce for shells. I make a gyro-like wrap with lamb stew meat, subbing lettuce for pita and using the avo-ziki sauce from Practical Paleo (SOOOO good). Any kind of "normal" sandwich.

I'll be your friend :) I'm newish to paleo - a bit over 2 months now. I'm pretty strict and am really enjoying this lifestyle change.

I just finished on ramp amd I plan to continue at three times a week. I am a believer in rest days - I think they are healthy and reduce the chance of injury. (Note, rest days don't mean be a couch potato, but they do mean not an intense workout IMO)

Mostly kombucha and raw sauerkraut for me. I get both from local producers and they are paleo-friendly. I'm not sure that I've noticed any specific benefit from adding them to my diet, but I started eating/drinking them after I'd only been paleo for a few weeks, so it's hard to know what changes are from paleo in general…

I am brand new to it, as in, have signed up for my on-ramp sessions next week. I'm excited, but also a bit nervous. I'd love some CrossFit friends too :)

Nomnompaleo is great and is most like how I eat on a daily basis. I also really like againstallgrain.com (She does have a lot of Paleo treats and baked goods, but there are plenty of meal recipes in there too.) Thedomesticman.com is also excellent, but it should be noted some of his recipes are not "strict" Paleo (though…

Mine came out just younger than my age - I'm 40 and I got 37 - but when I ran it for my stats just a couple months ago (before I started Paleo and working with a trainer), I got 49, so I'm definitely going in the right direction.

That's great you are getting such good results. Magnesium is often really helpful for this kind of pain. I have had excellent results with knee and hip pain using topically applied magnesium oil. I use the one from Sunfood http://www.sunfood.com/magnesium-oil-4-oz-spray-bottle.html

I would say it averages out to about $800-900/mo for two adults and a 5 year old. I do quite a bit of canning, freezing and dehydrating, so buy large quantities of produce in season, plus we buy meat in bulk from farmers, so those are all big expenses at once time, but get used over the whole year. I certainly *could* do…

I get them every year now. I got the flu about 10 years ago and it was the sickest I've ever been. I used to think flu was just a really bad cold, but after going through it, I don't ever want to deal with that again. I was only 30 and was very healthy and fit and I still almost ended up in the hospital because it…

If you are already lifting, I would think you could continue (with doctor approval, of course) as long as you were smart about it. Balance definitely could become an issue, but I would also expect that a bigger issue - especially later in pregnancy - would be tendon and ligament laxity. To prepare for labor and delivery, a…

I'd say the fitness model when she's not flexing for competition.

Not sure about if you'd burn more calories walking in heat vs A/C, but the other two examples - most definitely. Running a mile will definitely burn more calories than walking a mile. You are exerting a lot more effort and thus burning more calories. And walking/hiking/riding/running with a load vs. with nothing definitely…

Fantastic progress - keep it up! And thanks for the app recommendation, I have wanted something just like that.

It is about fitness, but because I need to lose about 50 pounds, it is also about weight for me. The fact of the matter is that I will NOT be the kind of fit I want at this weight. I am working hard and making progress, increasing my strength and my cardiovascular endurance and decreasing my body fat and my weight. But my…

Congratulations! What a fantastic accomplishment. Your story almost exactly mirrors mine - I'm an inch taller and a year older, but starting weight and goal weight are the same. Turning 40 recently is what made me decide to take this seriously and GET HEALTHY. Not just lose weight, but change my life for the better so I…

No. It uses low-energy Bluetooth and the drain is very minimal. It's only going to work with newer smartphones that support that kind of Bluetooth. Be sure to check on Polar's website to be sure what you have is compatible.

If you have a smartphone, I'd recommend getting the Polar H7. It will interface with several different apps (I personally like Digifit) and that syncs straight to MFP. I used to have a Polar FT40 and I liked it a lot, but I really wanted something that could work directly with the apps I use instead of having to manually…

You look amazing! Don't be so hard on yourself!!!

Amazing! You look great. Congratulations on making your health your priority!

I wouldn't bother with a treadmill, personally. Too expensive, too bulky and results aren't that great. There is a ton you can do for free... there are a lot of great fitness channels on YouTube. Also check out Blogilates, You are Your Own Gym (book or iPad app) for bodyweight exercises, search for kettlebell routines,…

Oh, awesome! I did not realize the MFP will disregard Fitbit steps during the time you were working out. I have been taking my Fitbit off for workouts, but then I tend to forget to put it back on so I'm missing lots of steps.

I personally think the benefits of a varied workout are a lot more psychological than physiological - it keeps you from getting bored and losing motivation. Yes, doing the same thing day after day will continue to work the same muscles day after day, to the exclusion of others. But the workout you're describing for your…

I list it as cardio and wear my HRM for calorie burn. While there are weights involved, it's really a cardio session, not strength training IMO.

The thing is, if you lose weight everywhere else, you'll look better if you DO lose some weight in your chest. You'll look more proportional and not top-heavy. Like others have said, you can't choose where to lose the weight, so whatever happens happens. A fit, healthy body all over with proportionally sized breats is a…
