Too complicated and "medical" to ask for replies on a forum. See a doctor for good advice.

Article from BBC Website: Myth: Eating late at night will make you gain more weight A lot of people believe that eating after a certain time in the evening will lead them to gain weight because they do not get the opportunity to burn off the food they’ve just eaten. According to a study conducted at Dunn Nutrition Centre…

I don't often eat late. But you are quite right. The latest scientific thinking is that it doesn't matter how late you eat. Your metabolism works just as well while you sleep. I agree that you should eat if you are hungry.

Interesting subject. I still sometimes, though not very often, run around my small flat doing my chores. Seventy-two years old this year so maybe into second childhood.

I did not google "diet" and post the first three results, nor did I post it as "fact". If anyone had bothered to follow up the link in my first post, they would have seen for themselves the article which I copied and pasted from today's edition of the Mail on Line, a UK paper. And yes, I agree absolutely with posters' low…

As requested: 2 WEEKEND BLOWOUT Myth If you eat healthily all week, it’s fine to treat yourself at weekends Fact Even after five days of restraint, two days of freestyle carbicide will make you gain weight ‘Say you sensibly manage your carbohydrate intake during the week and then binge on burgers, ice cream and cakes at…

I've always had a problem with women's jeans. That's why I wear men's jeans.

Very sorry for you. It has happened to me. A colleague told me then that "It's best to try and ignore her. When you see her, you see air," I was told. I tried my best, but basically it was never cured until she left, and while it was going on it coloured my whole life, even though I tried not to let it -- and after she…

Thank you. I have now read the article, along with some others, and am revising my view that elderly need less protein. Still, the optimum protein intake for an elderly of 120 lbs - that's me - is frequently given as 45 grams per day. I have trouble keeping to that. My protein is usually up in the 60s or even the 70s - and…

"Athletes and people over the age of 60 might benefit from increasing the recommended amount of protein in their diets to support muscle growth and prevent muscle loss, respectively." No, people over 60 need LESS protein, not more. Protein has to be processed by the liver, and as we grow older that organ needs to be…

I believe it's possible to go over the top with protein. It depends on your age and amount of activity but protein can be hard on the liver and it's important not to take more than you need. Important to remember that older and less active people need less because their liver finds it hard to cope. The jury is out on how…

Me, too, please! The sweet potato and butternut squash soup sounds delicious and I'd love to have your recipe for that and any other suggestions. I suppose that for these soups I would need a food processor/liquifier thing -- you know what I mean.

Dear Everyone - thanks very much for so many wonderful ideas. You are all so well organised! Now it's my turn. I am totally geared up for freezing my own dishes. In any case, I always make enough for two or three meals, so all I need are the containers and a bit of practice based on your good advice.

Wow, that's so helpful. Thanks to you two. I live alone, too. I am not a great cook and lived off ready meals and processed food before I began this diet, but I've learned a great deal these past months and one of those things is that home cooked food is best. I do agree about the frozen vegetables. I hate them all -…

Fresh cherries, yes. I also buy those tiny Ricola herbal sweets and try to limit myself to two or three a day. That's a bit painful to do but it keeps you off the great big suckers.

Mine is open. I've just reached my goal, so calories are bumped up to 1380 for maintenance - I hope! All my food is either slow cooking casseroles or quick and easy thrown-together things. I seem to be snacking a lot recently, though.

Chopsticks are a great idea. I am going to try that one.

They are. And we need good cholesterol. http://www.livestrong.com/blog/the-healthiest-food-in-the-world/

That's interesting about the change to no limit in the UK. I added "cholesterol" to the nutrition values on my food diary and two eggs are enough to send cholesterol way over the top. That said, I've been eating 3-egg omelettes on and off all my life. Had a cholesterol test last year for the first time ever and it was…

Not taking your stuff out of the basket, and dumping that dirty basket that's often kicked around the floor, on a conveyor belt meant for food is a filthy habit. We have notices asking customers to place their shopping items on the counter. People still basket dump without turning a hair.

Originally from London, England, but now live in Hong Kong.

Right! I have stopped eating pre-packaged food as much as possible. Now I find it difficult to reach my sodium goal. Each day's sodium is barely one-third of what I should be taking and have to add more salt to my food to help make up the deficit.

Hi AC1wirr, I am 71 years old and have lost a total of 23 lbs over the past three months. I swim every morning and try to do a 30 minute walk every day. I would thoroughly recommend swimming, if you can do it. Or as someone has written above, try an exercise bike and just start off gently. I didn't speak to my doctor, but…
-
You look SO good! And yes, it's a big difference. I've lost 20 lbs since I started in September, and like yours, my old UK size 14s that I used to squeeze myself into are for the dustbin. I am into a 12 now and very happy. Another 7 lbs and I'll have reached my goal of 120 lbs. Congratulations to you and thanks for the…

I feel the cold very much so I drink cold water in the summer and hot water in the winter. Just put the kettle on and drink, as someone wrote above. You'll soon get used to doing it.

Ha ha, I know what you mean. I was desperate for the full English breakfast above the eggs Benedict! Had to make do with a handful of nuts - Bah!
