  • Yes. And I do it myself, but I also did my daughter's wedding reception so that's not telling you much about the scope of the celebration. ;) Our dog is actually my son's service animal trained by Guiding Eyes for the Blind's Heeling Austism program. My son also attends a school for children with neurological impairments.…
  • Yes! Best $1500 I ever spent. We had worked with our district for some time and they were responsive but over time it became obvious our son was not progressing. I was able to ask someone (I respected) who no longer worked for our district for advice based on team meetings she had attended as a professional. I hired the…
  • My oldest son was given permission to get ice pops out of the deep freeze for himself, sister and brother. He was so excited he left the freezer open. No idea how much electricity was wasted before I found it, but it was pretty full of spoiled food. I closed and unplugged it. And that's how it remains - 18 years later. I…
  • Please add me when you can. My 9 year old son is low functioning autistic, non-verbal and self-injurious. Fortunately, he is able to make some eye contact and likes to cuddle as he goes to sleep. After years of working with the public school, he now goes to an amazing school for children with Neuro deficits where he…
  • I count water as water. I don't understand counting anything other than water as water. Lots of things have water in them. But they aren't water. Doesn't mean I'm more right than you though. Everybody develops their own system. It's much easier for me if the water I count is actually water.
  • Also, a discussion about *why* people eat. I know teen boys need a lot of food. But they are also restless. Boredom is not a reason to eat. Learn to be hungry for an hour or so. Make sure you aren't actually thirsty. Eat at regularly scheduled times. Eat slower/chew more (no taste buds in your throat- why the rush to…
  • I understand, unlike some others here. While we have made family wide changes (such as weighing our meat portions) our needs are not the same. I buy whole foods as much as possible, teach how to prepare their favorite recipes, etc. So in our house the nuts are fair game. But for altered foods - I purchase a "like" item for…
  • Congrats! Isn't it nice to be in the 100s?!
  • I use Deva products which focus on cleansing your *head* while only rinsing or conditioning your hair. I recommend that approach with whatever product you are using. Editted for spelling
  • Nice job, I'm sure you love the difference!
  • (3 of 4 of my children are adults) Looking back: spankings, though rare, were a sign of my frustration (a particularly willful child) or fear (child dashed in front of a car). There are better ways to parent, IMHO.
  • Oh my. I'm so sorry. But you have to be a good parent even if you catch flak. Your daughter is worth it!
  • So happy for you! On both counts!

  • Small changes add up! Congrats on resisting the fries. You don't have to give up everything all the time. Log it, accommodate your choices and one day you might choose to pass on the wrap too! With no struggle. I love these changes too!
  • That is excellent. I'm impressed!

  • Oh no, I'm not willing to try total elimination. But I do find that eating much less sugar allows me to appreciate the natural sweetness in foods. I support your choice! I hope you meet with great success.
  • I log it each time but only measured my milk per coffee for one day. (I drink it the same way whether hot or iced.) I count the calories but I don't freak out if it bumps my protein over goal some days. I even log the lemon wedge in my iced tea! But I still sweeten it with simple syrup. My log is honest. I still enjoy my…
  • meant to quote PhiMuHoney here Doesn't seen small to me!! Just on Friday, my son's teacher confessed to me that she wanted to lose down to the "overweight" category. I have never thought of her as heavy, much less obese. But who wants that label?
  • CONGRATS! Being merely "overweight" is a mini- goal of mine, too. I have 6 pounds to go as of this morning. Pretty sweet!
  • For me, I find being careful to keep my food management in perspective. I have improved my blood sugar and liver enzyme test and I'm close to moving from "obese" to merely "overweight". BUT this is only a fraction of my daily living. I do give my meals thought repeatedly throughout the day but for only a couple minutes at…
  • Sounds like you like digital, but I love my Detecto balance beam scales. No bells and whistles - just accurate weight every time.
  • I was able to maintain without logging a diary. I fell into a mindset of feeling deprived and stopped my efforts to drop pounds for a while. But I recovered my mental equilibrium and I love logging my food again. I feel it helps me make good decisions. I eat whatever I really want. I just eat smaller amounts and the…
  • I can't think of anything. I'm sure there are things, I just can't actually recall anything this moment. I've been married for almost 29 years. So i guess we've already sorted out the big stuff and accommodate the little things. I don't say anything about how to load the dishwasher and he politely ignores me rearranging…
  • It is crack! Not just the money spent but the TIME spent searching for the right item. Fine art along side trendy neat-o things along side church-lady crafts along side vintage. I frequently shop supplies as well. :)
  • I need this challenge to get into consistent exercise! Not as concerned about the 15 pound loss, of course I'd LOVE to but am planning only 1 pound a week. sewist 48 190.5
  • Ditto the above suggestions but I've also taken the opportunity to clean up my standard recipes, reducing fats where possible and carbs where practical but also simply reducing portion size. It's ok to ask for seconds but I don't automatically scoop up huge portions anymore. I also weigh everyone's meat. No more 10 oz…
  • But make a list when you are hungry! A list of all the healthy veg based dishes that are only tempting when you need to eat.
  • I'm shedding a pound a week and I'm quite happy with that. It's important to me that I don't feel punished so I eat dessert with my family (late at night) if I want it. And my exercising is sporadic. So there's tons of room for improvement as I go along!
