What works for me is clearing my mind of all thoughts. It's not as easy as it sounds. But repeatedly stopping in mid-thought and staring into the blackness of my shut eyes and concentrating on it. But after a few weeks of practice I can finally focus on, , , nothingness.

just yesterday my SIL stated, " don't take this the wrong way, but you're too skinny". Uh, my BMI is 26.2, so I'm still in the overweight range. Duh! Besides, I'm the only one that gets to decide when I'm too skinny. And the ONLY people I've ever asked about it were my wife and my brother/training partner.

My original goal was to make it out of the "Obese" BMI category by dropping 45 lbs. with roughly a 500 calorie per day deficit. That took almost exactly 6 months. Only slightly more than 1-1/2 lbs. per week on average. BTW - Everyone I've talked to states that weight loss is slower than MFP predicts.

Almost have abs!

During my workout I had a teenager come up and say, "You are awesome. You're here 3 or 4 days a week and you workout HARD while you're here. I hope I'm just like you when I'm your age". I smiled and told him, "Well you'll find out in about 40 years".

Impressive!

Although I can feel my I.Q. dropping when watching them, I watch America's Funniest Videos and/or Ridiculousness for goofy home video clips. Don't judge me :p

@AnnPT77 is right about having a range rather than an EXACT maintenance weight. Mine spans about 5 lbs. To answer you question, increase your daily caloric intake by 200 calories. Leave it there for a week. If you're still losing raise it up 200 again for the next week. Usually within 2 - 4 weeks you'll find your…

@springlering62 I’m retired, and decided when I started losing weight that I might as well treat “me” as my new job. this is EXACTLY my same mindset and strategy, now that I'm retired. You're quite an inspiration! WE ARE ATHLETES!!!

Uh, drink responsibly. Therefore, I no longer drink at all. Saves a lot of hurt & regret. I also can't resist cold pizza in my refrigerator, but that's another story :D

Had some fun today. Did an AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) workout with a Superset alternating sets of pullups, pushups & situps. In approximately 40 minutes, I got in 48 pullups, 200 pushups, and 120 situps. Followed that up a little bit later with a 45 minute stint on the elliptical. Nice change from my slow paced power…

The MFP app calculations are a good starting point. But take heart, if after 2 or 3 weeks you aren't losing you can adjust it down by 100 or 200 calories per day. If you're losing in excess of 2 or 3 pounds a week (after the first week), you might considering raising your calorie goal 100 or 200 calories to stay satisfied…

There will ALWAYS be someone telling you, "You don't need to lose any more", even if you're firmly in the overweight or even obese BMI range. Whatever. . . I'm using the mirror to decide when I've lost enough. Believe me I have no signs of body dismorphia, so when my muffin top is gone and I don't have to over from the…

The difference is AWESOME! You should be very proud.

Your post has really helped reinforce my current weight loss/maintenance plan. You see, EVERY time I've yo-yo'd and regained the weight I lose it was the EXACT same recipe you had. 1) stop exercising, 2) stop logging, 3) stop weighing. You would think after the 3rd or 4th yo-yo I would learn. But, noooooooooo! This time…

Wise counsel. You should find a fruit, vegetable, whole grain (or two) that you can tolerate and make sure you're not eating just chicken. Most RD's will have you on at least a multiple vitamin when your caloric intake is 1200 calories or less. It's difficult to get the Minimum Daily Requirements without it.
-
Congratulations! You have a right to be proud of your accomplishment. Stay STRONG!

Black coffee, artificially sweetened beverages and the artificial sweetners themselves & most vitamins are all on my 'don't count' list. If I were FORCED to add actual foods, it would probably be lettuce & celery. But like @AnnPT77 I prefer to be honest and continue to adjust my maintenace calories, if necessary.

It all adds up when we "stick to it". Nice work.

I LOVED IT, when I could finally do this! Great NSV!!!

Exactly! My 'off switch' took years to gradually erode away to the point where if I wasn't going to get drunk, there was no point in drinking. It's like an acquired allergy. To the point you know you're going to "break out" because of your drinking, but you do it anyway.

I've heard the "I'm proud of you" comment from neighbors and acquaintances who have no need or right to take pride in anything I've done. BUT, , , I always assume it's a play on words. I presume they REALLY mean, "you should be proud of yourself" or just "you should be proud". That way I'm not so resentful.

May have posted this already, too lazy to check, , , but when I retired I gained 8 pounds in 8 weeks and "POW!" the switch went "on". I knew I'd have to do something. So spent the next 14 months losing 70 lbs. My deepest hope and sincerest prayer is that that switch never goes "off". I'm not exactly sure how to prevent it,…

Love your goal to lose 48 lbs. Consider being careful with time-tables. 16 lbs a month, or 4 lbs a week are VERY aggressive goals at any weight. If you do it in 6 months it would still be AWESOME!

since they started quarantine/social distancing/nonessential business closing here in middle March, I've dropped an additional 10 lbs. and upped my bench press significantly, since we have a bench and free weights. Put a pullup bar in the garage and I've gone from being unable to do a pullup to being able to do SEVEN…

Having lost 65 lbs., it's difficult to pass it off as a slight change. But when asked "what did you do?", I OVER simplify it and say "I moved more and ate less", rather than go into great detail about accurate logging and measuring of food, daily weigh-ins and tracking activities. Most are looking for a magic pill, or some…

I lost 70 lbs., or roughly 32 kg. in 12 months. I'm a 61 year old male at 5 ft. 9 in. or 175 cm tall. Just remember that weight loss isn't "linear". So you won't lose weight everyday or even every week. And some times, *gasp!* the scale will actually show your weight going UP. But don't get discouraged. By eating at a…

great accomplishment! Unless you are at your goal weight, what I did was go to Goodwill. It has TONS of new and slightly used clothing. Pants are $4, shirts/blouses $2, accessories are WAY less expensive than even WalMart. Once I'm at my goal weight for a number of months I may go back to "regular" retail stores and get my…

My brother uses a free app called FatSecret that does nearly the same thing as MFP and he loves it. Maybe time to switch!!!
