If being hungry after work is keeping you from exercising, why not have a carby snack (an apple, carrot sticks, etc) about an hour before you'd like to be working out? When I have exercise planned after work, I make sure I have my snack. It really helps! Or, if you can't eat at work, can you bring a shake to have on your…

I think that if you get them fresh, VooDoo Donuts are pretty good. A friend and I shared a hot "*kitten* and balls" and it was delicious. But the leftovers the next day were stale and gross. I think that's just the way it is with donuts, and unfortunately I think a lot of the donuts at VooDoo sit out for hours before…

Baked fruit! Baked peaches, pears, apples are all delicious. Just sprinkle them with cinnamon and a tiny bit of butter. Add a little brown sugar or sweetener of choice, or don't! Delicious either way. Diabetics might need a 1/2 portion, but I that's not my expertise.

I focus on high protein/low calorie foods; a regular day is: 5.3 oz fat free greek yogurt (14-16 g protein), Kashi golean crunch (13 g protein), cheese snack (6-7 g protein), homemade lunch with beans/lentils (around 20 g protein), protein shake (20 g protein), and something with tofu/tempeh/veggie burgers at dinner. End…

Can you link to the page with free samples? I can't seem to find it.

I see that you say you are eating 1000-1200 cal/day, and working out 60 min times per week. If you are truly eating that few calories, then I do not see how you could gain any body mass--only water weight. So keep weighing regularly, and in the same state (say, first thing in the morning wearing minimal clothing), and you…

I know there is a specialty hot chocolate mix which is only cocoa powder and stevia, and that's easy enough to make yourself. Add that to some unsweetened almond milk and it would be about 45 calories per 8oz.

Great insights!

From what you're describing at the gym, 50 minutes of cardio followed by 30-40 minutes of weights, you're pushing too hard. Try doing 30 minutes of strength one day, and the next day do the cardio. I'd be exhausted doing 1.5 hours at the gym, and I don't have a kid nor am I producing milk. I know that weight loss is your…

Trader Joe's light champagne vinaigrette. 50 cals/2 tbsp. Really tasty.

This is really well put. I think everyone struggles with "motivation" because results don't happen overnight. That's why starting slow and not making drastic changes is more sustainable: you don't feel like you're giving up everything (or doing things you hate) but not getting anything back (i.e. not losing weigh…

Well, it sounds like food does something for you, aside from feeding your body enough calories to function. That is, you have an urge to eat that is unrelated to physical hunger. It might help you to try to figure out where this urge is coming from. Other people have mentioned boredom; that's often the case for me. Food is…

Congrats! I started on Monday, and I was really impressed at how many ladies I saw in "that section." Sure, we're still pretty outnumbered by guys, but it was comforting to even see one or two other women lifting.

Wow! Impressive! Mind if I friend you? I'm just starting Stronglifts 5x5 (and I'm in the Pacific NW too); your lifting is inspiring!

I'm all about the greek yogurt; I do 1 cup nonfat plain (120 cals, 22 g protein), 3/4 cup frozen berry blend (70 cals, 4 gram fiber) and 1 packet stevia sweetener (approx 0 cals). Also good as a breakfast :)

Thanks! Great to know the neck pain isn't permanent!

You can't, as far as I know. But you can change the amount of calories you burned, if you click on the exercise, a box should pop up with how long you exercised, when you started, and how many calories you burned. Just change the calories burned to 1.

Hey all! I'm in Portland!

Great job! I live in Oregon too, and it is the BEST place for hiking, being outside, etc. Exercise is so much fun when you do it outside (I think)!

Yeah, just gonna make the most delicious of foods (seitan "turkey") and eat them with no remorse! Then I'll get back on the wagon. If I enter the recipes into MFP recipe calculator, at least I can moderate myself when it comes to leftovers.
