  • I eat many of the same foods over and over again so it's really easy to multi add. The bar scanner is great too. When I eat out (which is rare) I guestimate and quick add calories or else I drive myself crazy. Logging is probably the most important part of this for me, this way I really see what I am eating, how many…
  • I agree about the logging, it really does make a difference. Once you start to see how many calories your are consuming with mindless eating and picking at leftovers you will think twice about what you eat. Allow yourself a treat so you don't feel deprived.
  • WHAT?!?!?!? Canada is not the same country as USA? J/K. In all seriousness, congrats to Team Canada Hockey both the women's and the men's teams. They played well.
  • I'm bumping this up. This is one of my favorite recipes that I got from here and I make this so often now, it's a staple for me.
  • I also lost quite a bit of weight and gained even more back!!!!!!!! I've been back on MFP since early December, had a bad 12 days (holidays) and got right back "on the horse" in January. Down 8 pounds, had a bad week, still down 8 pounds, phew. Back on track again. I am an emotional eater, a real stress eater. Severe…
  • I think you will find there are many of us on here that can relate. I lost my mother in July, 2012 - but she was sick for years before that (Dementia) and the struggles of dealing with her, placing her in a home, selling her home AND working full time - AND going to school at night for part of that time AND trying to keep…
  • Welcome back to the weight loss journey. I started back up here I think it's now 38 days (the week between Christmas Eve and NYE don't count, because it was a fun fabulous fattening week). I'm doing it the old fashioned weigh (way, but I decided to be a little silly) and I'm watching my calories and exercising. I'm making…
  • I bought the flex for my sister (wristband) and I got the One (you have to clip on). I didn't want the wristband because I thought it would be too noticeable and the One isn't. My sister wanted the Flex because she could put it on and not have to think about it. The One (from what I hear) can be lost a lot easier than the…
  • I have had the FitBit One for a few weeks now. I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE…
  • I hate to say that your post brought a smile to my face, only because I can relate so well. I took a flight a month ago. It was on a small commuter plane (26 rows, two aisles of two seats). The seat belt JUST fit, I mean I had to adjust it so it was at the biggest setting, but I had to take my coat off in order to wear the…
  • I think you will find there are many of us that have stopped and come back. I refuse to delete myself and start new, I just add my new high weight and start from scratch, happy that my MFP friends are mostly still here. I keep forgetting that word that I tell people they are - oh yeah - HUMAN! Never beat yourself up for…
  • I've been on and off for the past year plus, but I've been really good about it again since early December. Even being away for the holidays (and gaining weight) I still logged, and got right back on the horse after the holidays. I have to say that during my off times, it was my MFP friends that would hound me to come back…
  • Feel free to add me too. I'm 47 and I'm so tired of the yo yo thing, plus it really does get harder to lose the older we get. I will say that even if the pounds are coming off at a snail's pace right now, I do feel significantly better when I am eating better and exercising.
  • I am agreeing with the others on here regarding realistic long term goals, not short term quick weight loss. I too am a yo yo and in my 40's. This is it for me, I have been so lucky so far in that other than high cholesterol (which I have had since childhood even when stick skinny) my health is excellent - FOR NOW. If I…
  • One more thing, if you meet the guy in person and you are not physically attracted to him, you don't have to tell him that, just tell him that you don't think there is a connection, you're not feeling it. - period. No need to hurt feelings.
  • Are you talking about meeting someone in person and not have a physical attraction to them or looking at photos of potential dates online? If you are not attracted to someone, you are not attracted to them, period. If you are around that person and find that even the personality doesn't excite you, move on - whether that…
  • Habs fan here, actually getting to go to two games this year. My BF is on the waiting list for season tickets, he only has 15 more years left to wait!!!!!!!
  • It's good to go to the GI and have other things ruled out. After I had more serious issues ruled out then my GI discussed diet with me. I thought I knew the right things to eat, I didn't. I was eating too much insoluble fiber as opposed to enough soluble fiber and I was causing more problems. Besides changing my diet, I…
  • You are supposed to eat less than 25 grams of ADDED sugar per day. I subtract my natural occurring sugar grams and try to keep my added sugar to 25 grams or less. Of course if there is a health issue (i.e. diabetes) then you have to worry about natural sugar as well. Remember, many vegies and fruits (and things we think…

  • It's approximately 22 calories per ounce if boiled or steamed (I nuke mine). This is from various websites, yet other sites say it's more. I can't figure out if this is with skin or eating the flesh and tossing the skin. I have going with the 22 calories per ounce, I can't imagine that I'm that far off either way.
  • STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SCALE IS EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, everyone is different. There are people on here that lose crazy amounts of weight quickly. I am not one of them. I have been losing and gaining weight for years now. Now the losing is slow. Know your body and how it works. I know…
  • My triglycerides are thankfully normal. Occasionally they are slightly high (they tested high about five years ago), but mostly they are within normal levels. Glucose too. I did not know about the two types of LDL. Thank you for this info as I am due next month for another blood test to check my numbers.
  • Oh boy can I relate, although my mother passed away last year - July 7th will be the anniversary. My mother had Dementia and she was BAD! We tried home care and she would attack the aides. She was in and out of geriatric psychiatry hospitals for six months, mostly in. We thought we would never find a place for her (she had…
  • My cholesterol has always been high. I tried Krill oil, which was working, but I was allergic to it. Luckily with healthy eating my HDL is very high so my ratio between LDL and HDL is excellent. That being said, I still would like to lower my LDL. I watch the cholesterol levels in everything I eat and try to keep myself at…
  • You've already gotten some great ideas. I would just like to add that I ALWAYS have small bags of 16 almonds with me, which has about 110 calories. I eat them slowly, but they definitely keep me from getting starving and therefore I am less likely to eat like crap. I also travel a lot, but I make sure to have my own snacks…
  • Ice cream. Ice cream is the death of me!!!!!!!!!! I have no control. I can keep chocolate here - no problem. I once had a half pound box of chocolates and after six months I had to throw out half the box because they got stale. Ice cream, a gallon - lasts about two days. A pint is just a small snack.
  • Huge noticeable difference! Congrats!
  • Amazing. I can't believe it took only six months to get to where you are now. You are a true inspiration! You rock!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I hear you on this one. I've had high cholesterol since I was 19 and I was a stick then. Did the doc tell you your total cholesterol or did he break it down for you between good and bad cholesterol and the ratio between the two? That makes a huge difference. You can also try Krill oil. I was taking it for awhile but…
  • I agree about the food scale. I got myself a food scale a couple of months ago and it made a huge difference. It really is close to impossible to tell the weight of things just by sight. I proved this to my boyfriend just by weighing two chicken breasts and he was shocked at the difference in weight of the two, and how…
