Hi this is my first week and I have drastically reduced my calories. I lost 3 pounds the first day then gained one then gained 2+. I couldn't wait to weigh after lots of exercise and I am heavier than when I started. I am so frustrated.??

You'll need to give lots more info before anyone can comment effectively.
What do you weigh now
How old are you
How tall are you
How many calories have you been eating
How many calories did MFP tell you to eat
How active are you in your job / daily life
What extra exercise have you been doing
I hope people manage to help you. In the meantime, patience is the first thing you'll need.
And second, if you get stressed about your weight going up and down a lot day by day (which is perfectly normal) it's best to weigh once a week or even less often than that.0 -
Probably water gain from exercise as the muscles repair. Just keep it up and things will settle down.0

I wasn't aware of that. I rode bike for 35 miles and was so excited to weigh. And saw that I had gained. I didn't eat all of my calories but really feel as though I couldn't . Thank you for your words of encouragement.0

Honestly ~ My advice is to step away from the scale for a few weeks. I'm not a big advocate of measuring success by the scale alone. Weight can fluctuate wildly due to many variables unrelated to body fat. Water weight, time of the month, digestive regularity, etc can show up on the scale and give you a false impression of your progress (or lack of progress). Eat well, exercise regularly (but not obsessively), stay the course, be patient. You'll get there, but you don't want to let frustration side track you. Watching the scale too closely can do that.0

Hi there! I'm also on my 1st week and the same thing happened to me!! I lost 2 lbs and now have gained them back!! I'm hoping slow and steady is the key... Cutting out crap and working out cant possibly be bad so let's just stick with it! Ill friend you and we can help each other out!0

Usually the first couple of pounds you lose will be "water weight" Especially if its around 3-4 pounds in a day. A lot of people can lose 1-3 pounds in a week though and keep it off. Just eat/exercise safely.
It takes more time to see results. ^^

Eat to the plan. Stick with the plan. Didn't put on the extra weight in a week. Won't take it off in a week.0

Key words are "First week".
It's a marathon, not a sprint - we didn't gain the weight in a week, and we won't lose it in a week. Focus on starting healthier habits, both exercise and eating, making this a lifestyle change that will stick.
Part of that involves eating enough calories - you can't slash your intake, start working out really hard, and expect your body to keep up for long. Food is fuel, make sure your goal is realistic (as in not going for a 2lb a week loss if you have less than 100lbs to lose), that you fuel your body for daily life and workouts, drink plenty of water and get good rest.
Be prepared for ups and downs on the scale - I'm a daily weigher out of habit, and I can "gain" 5lbs in a week. It's not fat, and it's not muscle either (not in a week!), just normal weight fluctuations our bodies go through with water retention due to exercise, what we eat, too much sodium, hormones - whatever! The overall loss over time is what you want to watch, AND make sure you take measurements once a month or so, and photos as well. Often your measurements will show progress even when the scale is playing games with ya.
And be patient! It will happen!0 -
Why would you be expecting results in the first week?
You don't lose any fat in a day, count that as water loss or a bowel movement.
If you've calculated your TDEE and are in a 500calorie deficit per week, you should lose 1 pound of fat per week0 -
weightloss takes time, you dont say what you need to loose.Dont cut your calories too drastically,in my experience exercise while toning and making you feel good it will not loose weight for you,its a slow journey, took time to gain weight it will take time to loose it,have patience dont kill yourself but keep going!!0

First week and already a crisis. You're in for a long ride with that attitude. Give it some time - weight loss should not be measured daily or weekly but rather as an average over an extended time period.0

The level of impatience on this site is truly amazing.
Spend some time reading through the success stories section. You're not going to find anyone that dropped 100lbs in a weeks time. You'll find a bunch of people that have made incredible transformations by making lifestyle changes and sticking with it for months and years.
Be patient.0 -
Weighing yourself right after exercising is the WORST time, like the person above said about water weight, so true!! The best time is right in the morning. You'll get the most accurate (most accurate it can be anyway) weight, as weight fluctuates throughout the day.0

STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SCALE IS EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, everyone is different. There are people on here that lose crazy amounts of weight quickly. I am not one of them. I have been losing and gaining weight for years now. Now the losing is slow. Know your body and how it works. I know I lose practically nothing in the first month, then it starts to come off. I need to maintain healthy eating and exercise. Pay attention to how your clothes fit.
One week is not realistic to see results. There are so many reasons why the numbers on the scale go up. Try weighing in once a month. Hide that evil scale.
I make light of the scale because I had to hide my scale and take it out only once a month. If it's handy then I start weighing myself daily, it's a huge mistake and it will set you up for failure. "Experts" say to weigh in no more than once a week. I personally like once a month. If I'm doing things right then the scale will move in the right direction.0 -
Don't be too downhearted. Stick to your MFP calories and keep up the exercise. 35 miles??? Blimey that's going some you should be proud.0

I gained like 2 lbs the first week. Not a big deal. You have to give your body time to adjust to your new diet and exercise. If you stay true to your weight loss plan, it WILL happen. Maybe not as fast as you would like, but be patient. You should focus on just feeling more energized and alert from the new lifestyle. Good luck!0

You're going to have to take a much longer view of things. This isn't a linear process...you don't lose exactly X Lbs per week...it's an average over a much longer period of time. On average, the human body can have natural weight fluctuations of 2-5 Lbs day to day...so when you're talking about losing 1 Lb per week or 2 Lbs per week of fat, that can easily be masked by those natural fluctuations.0
