  • I agree with others that if you are replacing wheat with another carb-substitute you maybe dissapointed and swapping for other calories instead of reducing. Being forced to go gf (in my case) is not ideal and reading labels is a must. I wouldn't wish a complete gf diet on anyone because can be very limiting ie. eating out,…
  • I am gf due to wheat allergy. My husband and kids are not - generally we eat gf dinners together because it's easy to cook 1 meal vs 2. My family is still able to eat gluten such as bread for sandwiches and does not have to worry about eating out or at other's homes. Be supportive and open to trying some alternatives but…
  • I'm in!!! Feel free to friend me. So excited to start this especially now that I have a Fitbit to help track my calories burned.
  • Welcome to being gf!! I am allergic to wheat and cannot have even a tiny bite. I've been gf officially since November. I also love breads and pastas and so thankful that my grocery store carries gf pasta (rice or quinoa) they also have Udis bread. Betty Crocker has a great gf brownie mix as well. I've found that gf pancake…
  • It depends on your body. I feel best at a 40/30/30. Most say that should eat more carbs but I found that I crash too quickly on my long runs so I need the protein/fat to help even out my blood sugar. I also do carry some sort of energy block with me just in case. I have been losing weight consistently while training for a…
  • I'm still not "in Love" with running. I'm up to 10 miles once a week and 4 miles/3 times a week. BUT I feel accomplished after every run. I love that I get to be outside and that I'm doing more than sitting on the couch. I love that I get to spend time with my puppy, my cousin and my friend. It's my time that I spend on me…
  • I just remember that I wanted to do this!!! June 2: 2.5 miles June 3: 3.6 walk/run and 1.5 mile walk in the morning. 92.4 miles to go!!! I'll have another 3.6 done tonight!
  • I'm In! Whoo Hoo!
  • I use a prong collar on my coon hound. I can give her a gentle tug once if she starts pulling on our run/walk and she will immediately return to my side. This is after giving her a voice command and her ignoring it. If I would have her on a regular leash she would pull and misbehave - I have tried several times but once…
  • I LOVE having a pronged collar for my coon hound! She wears in for our walks/runs and doesn't pull when it is on. I took her to obedience school when I learned I was pregnant 5+ years ago and the trainer suggested using it over a choke collar because I wasn't strong enough to use the choke collar properly and would end up…
  • I always have high hopes of getting it out of the way in the morning but it just hasn't happened yet! ha! I have plans tonight but am hoping to sneak it in either before we head out or before bed. I can feel my legs getting stronger! Does anyone else get super hot and sweaty doing this work out? The other night I stripped…

  • I am doing both. I do 30 DS first and then run. I'm doing the C25K program every other day and walking with a 15 lb pack the other days. If you are still burning out - try splitting them up. Are you able to get through 30DS on days that you have not run? If not, ease yourself into more cardio. Walk for a couple of weeks…
  • Are you able to hold a plank position? I would do these instead - they are still really hard but a bit easier because you are not moving up and down. However, I would start with wall push ups if you can.
  • My legs are wobbly! I have to do modified push ups but did everything else the hard way. I used 3 pound weights and also think the side planks are killer. Great job on Day 1 everyone!!!!! We'll be awesome on this level on Day 10!!

  • Are you able to do a modified plank? If you are, I would substitute a plank hold and work up to a couple of push ups at a time. It gets easier!

  • Hi Everyone - I entered my starting weight to the spreadsheet and will take measurements tomorrow. I've done 30 DS before but never all the way through so I'm really pumped to be apart of this group! My legs are a little wobbly from this first day.

  • I'm measuring tonight and maybe even take a before pic to compare to. I want to set up my space and get my gear ready for the morning. I'm determined to work out before work this month! In conjunction with 30 DS, I'm planning on running a C25K program on MWF and walking with a 15 lb pack on T/TH. The weekends I'll still do…
  • You look amazing!!! Great work!
  • Count me in! I desperatly need this challenge! Thanks for doing this.
  • We planned on doing Isle Royale 4 summer's ago but postponed because I found out I was pregnant with our second daughter. I would have done it this summer but the ferry is so expensive! I would really like to take our canoe with us too. Hope you get there! It's gorgeous!
  • I love my sleeping pad! And we have the pocket rocket stove. It's so tiny! And yes- a water pump filter is a must! I hate carrying more weight than I have to. We also only pack one mess kit and share to save on space/weight.
  • Wow! Thanks for the responses. I will for sure be getting my boots early to break them in. Before kids my husband and I trek Glacier National Park for a 7 days - it was amazing! We've also done extended weekend trips so I'm really excited to go for a week. We all of our gear just making sure that it's all working and added…
  • How fast are you running? You might need to slow your pace down. You shouldh't be out of breath. When I first started I ran fast but then couldn't go very far. My goal was to be able to run 3 miles with out stopping and my friend helped me slow my pace down so I could do just that! Concentrate on how you breath, if it is…
  • The best advice I have ever heard: Do what you can today. If you only have today, how can you make it the best? Start every morning refreshed and with new energy. It takes time to find balance but it really is a one day at a time journey.
  • I love that he is interested!!! I include my girls in my activites but don't force it. They love to dance and love to race/run outside. We make a game out of our walks and my 5 year old will run a mile to the park and back with joy! I might not have them track calories at such a young age only because of a counting and…
  • She does want a drinking buddy! I would want my friend to have a few with me. I wouldn't call it enabling if it's a once in awhile thing. You can compromise and set a limit for yourself and let her know that next weekend you will not be going out. Find a balance for yourself and your friend will respect that. She will love…
  • I'm going to play devil's advocate - think about it from her side. She is used to going out for pizza or ice cream with you and now she can't. The things that you use to do together you no longer want to do. It might feel like you are participating by showing up but it might not feel the same to her. She is most likley…
  • I'm in! I need a little encouragement to keep going! Your Start Weight? 138 Your 12 Week Target? 119 Why Are You Shaping Up For Summer? I want to be toned and back into my favorite summer clothes! My husband and I are also going to on a backpacking trip and I want to be sure I can hike all my miles without being too tired…
  • Wow! 6 pounds is fantastic! I wouldn't let them get you down or discourage you. It takes time before others are able to see your progress. I have a co-worker that has lost 27 pounds in the last month or so and I honestly can't really tell BUT she has a long way to go and I would NEVER tell her that I can't tell. So in…
  • Feel free to add me. I have a 5 and 3 years old. I'm have lost 20 pounds but still have 15 or so to go. I live in Minnesota and understand the cold weather. My goal is too be healthy, fit and to teach my girls how to eat and exercise properly. I also love trying new foods/recipes. This past week my oldest discovered that…
