Sounds like you are losing fat and gaining muscle since you've gone down a pants size. To me, it sounds like what you are doing IS working... but i echo the previous poster's concern you aren't eating enough.

I am so glad you asked because I've been wondering, too. I use either a recumbent bike (home) or elliptical (gym) but am thinking of "upgrading" the bike. Thanks for starting this thread!

I believe the BMI was developed as a population measure, not an individual one. Plus, people have been getting bigger (and taller) with better nutrition and healthcare.
