  • Just an update in case anyone cares to know how this turned out. I returned my shoes and got another pair, this time for a neutral stride. The ball of foot pain disappeared after about two runs. However my right arch will get sore now at the beginning of my runs. So I went and got a gait analysis and discovered a couple of…
  • I eat more calories on average when I run longer distances than when I don't. For example, yesterday I ran 10K and ate about 250 more than my normal 1530 calories/day yet I burned close to 800 calories. I had the post-run munchies so had a huge plate of spaghetti. I normally run 5x a week, though, so have it built into my…
  • I have been monitoring mine since I started back running in July. I've noticed a significant decrease in my average heart rate and max heart rate over time. Now my average is in the 160s but when I started it was in the high 170s and sometimes low 180s. I am able to run farther and faster now without my heart rate…
  • Thanks 7lenny7, I guess I didn't do my research well when considering the newer shoe model because my new shoe has a 10mm drop and the old are 14.8mm. I didn't think that would make a difference. The stability of both shoes is the same but the main difference is the width around the toe, the new ones are a bit tighter but…
  • Hi! 41 with three children living near Austin, Texas.
  • Met my goal in September so upping it to 60 miles for October. :)
  • 41 and 5'6", currently around 126lbs (been cutting) soon to go back to maintenance. To lose I am at 1530 calories/day and am losing about .5lb a week. I lift 5 days a week with active rests and run 5 days a week an average of 30 minutes a run. To maintain I will move up to about 1800 - 1900 since that is where I maintained…
  • @Elise4270 thanks so much!
  • This will be my first month participating. I started back running a month ago so not a lot of miles per week just yet. I'm averaging about 8 miles a week right now. My goal for the month of September will be 32 miles. Upcoming race: Harvest Wine Run 5K, September 16th. This will be my first race since running the Austin…
  • Hi, I'm Dayna from North Austin, Texas. I have been an avid runner since the age of 19, logging 2-6 miles a day, 5 or more times a week. In 2012, after the birth of my first son and completing my first half-marathon, I stopped running and went the weight lifting route shifting to HIIT. Just recently (last month in fact) I…
  • I am in North Austin, Texas
  • I have a TomTom Spark 3 and love it for running. User friendly and simple to use. I had a Forerunner (can't recall what model now) prior to that with a chest strap but it went kaput after the battery change. IMO the Garmin was better only because of the chest strap. The TomTom I have now out does it in every other way. I…
  • Do you have a playground nearby that you could use to do workouts? When mine were that age I use to go to the playground and use them as my weight while I did squats, step-ups, lunges, shoulder presses, etc. If they are a weight you can handle then it works great for a workout-on-the-go. My son would climb onto my back and…
  • Let me put it this way, I don't want to exceed 85% of my max heart rate. Not only do I feel like crap when I do, but it has made me nearly black out. Not good when lifting heavy....well not good at all.
  • I don't use it to measure calories, I use it to track my heart rate. Trying to keep it from going sky-high like 180s which for me is past my max heart rate.
  • I currently have a TomTom Spark 3. Prior to that had a Garmin Forerunner. I love my current watch and compared to my Forerunner it is fantastic....all but the heart rate monitor. It is located on the watch and uses the pulse at the wrist. When I weight train this is a major issue. My heart rate bottoms out during heavy…
  • I use to be in your shoes - runner, 6 miles a day - but eventually began to realize I needed to build muscle. I did it all on my own using Bodybuilding.com and had great results. The program I started with was Jaime Eason's LiveFit Trainer. It worked great and there are videos and support on the site. I have also done a…
  • I made some really awesome gluten-free banana bread yesterday. One thick slice was 155 calories and it filled me up, well for an hour anyway.
  • Great job!!!
  • Glad you like her! :) With the added strength training and a good nutrition plan in line you should lose inches. Just remember we can't choose where we lose it. In my experience women tend to lose weight up top first, at least that is what always happens with me (bye bye boobies).
  • I suggest getting a TomTom or Garmin watch or similar. They are great for tracking all activity and then connect to almost all apps out there. My TomTom Spark 3 connects to Strava, RunKeeper and MyFitnessPal as soon as I connect it to the computer. The only issue I have with it is that it is not very good for weight…
  • If I'm in a hurry, oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder and cinnamon. If I've got time, egg/egg whites, bell pepper, oatmeal and protein shake. Sometimes I put the eggs in two corn tortillas with avocado and/or salsa. I workout in the mornings so usually I have two breakfasts. The first is a protein shake and then the…
  • We've never hired out even when we lived in the country and had four acres. Thankful for the suburban lot we have now. Why pay someone when you can get a workout and save the money? :)
  • If your pudge is because of rectus diastasis (ab separation) no amount of exercise/diet will get rid of the pudge entirely. You can tell if it is rectus diastasis by seeing if you can put your finger between the muscles in your abs. One fingertip, two or more sometimes, is not uncommon after having children. This link…
  • I have recently had a nasty recurrence of anxiety/panic attacks. It got so bad I ended up cancelling my gym membership and stopped driving as much. Now I workout at home and do more activity outside - running, biking, swimming. So far it has helped the anxiety immensely. I have three kids and am a SAHM at the moment. Would…
  • I've had issues with hormones since my last pregnancy (at 37) and cannot be on BP because it gives me migraines. Since turning 40 I've run into hormonal acne and had issues with my cycle (heavier periods, cramping, missed periods). I tried seed cycling and it has made a huge difference. I also take Vitex-Chasteberry twice…
  • L-Glutamine supplementation can help. I use a powdered form by Optimum Nutrition after a workout in my post-workout smoothie. Also all of the above suggestions. Keep moving, take a hot bath in epsom salts, stretch before/after, warm-up and cool-down and maybe try a foam roller.
  • SAHM to three kids - 9, 6 and 3. I have always been active and in shape but after my third I fell off the wagon, starting eating whatever I wanted and got out of shape. I don't have lots of weight to lose but I need to get my diet in order again and lose that last bit of weight in my ab area. It would be nice to connect…
  • I actually just got out my step again a couple of months ago. My legs were already lean, though, so can't say currently if it helped with that. However, when I first started step when I was 19 (loooong time ago lol) I lost 8lbs from doing it. I didn't measure my legs back then but that is where I carry most of my weight so…
  • So sorry to hear that! :( Maybe swimming or some plyometric exercises focusing on another body part (like push-ups)? Have you tried Step aerobics? I just started back again and I burn almost as many calories per hour as I do when I run! It's fun, too. I think it would be easy on your toe but IDK. If you're curious check…
