I love it for lunch - a good whole grain. I like to keep the oatmeal portion smaller and top it with blueberries, greek yogurt and almonds.

Is it ridiculous that I have done the half and full distances (in the same weekend, no less), have been given stickers to commemorate it and am just too lazy to put them on my car?

I had a concussion while training for my first half marathon. It took a few days for me to be aware of all of my symptoms. I did end up having some cognitive effects which I felt got worse when I attempted to run again. I ultimately waited about a month before I was able to continue with running at all. It was over a year…

I always suggest the Couch to 5K program for learning to run. It is available for free online. I started with training for a 5K in 2007 and have progressed to the marathon distance as well (26.2 miles)

I have been maintaining for 2 years now. The first year, I tracked just as I had been during the year I was losing. The second year has been a little less...structured at times, but I am pleased to report that I've not gained all my weight back, even with several months of not actually tracking anything. I think that it is…

1. Put it on a plate - eating things by hand makes it much tougher to stay accountable. Nuts, M&M's, caramel popcorn add up WAY too fast by the handful. 2. If it's not "worth it" don't eat it. Have some of the things you truly LOVE, and if you take that first bite and it's not all it's cracked up to be, there is no need to…

They put caffeine in a lot of endurance fuel-type foods - Gu, sport beans, clif bloks, for instance. It's been shown that caffeine can improve performance and reduce fatigue in endurance sports. If you google caffeine, sports, you'll find there are many articles written on this subject.

I think it depends on the intensity with which you are working out. If you are working out HARD, pushing yourself, feeling fatigued at the end, stretching your capabilities, you are essentially tearing down so you can rebuild stronger. At which point, if you don't take time to rebuild, you will end up..all torn down. AKA…

Congratulations! You are doing a wonderful job and your toes and scale look fantastic!!

Thinking about it some more, I've got a running friend who had terrible G/I problems when running. It turns out she is gluten intolerant and cutting the gluten has made a huge difference in her digestion as well as life in general. Probably that is not the problem in your case, but if the standard measures don't help,…

Have you tried taking the salt tab before the run? Before a half marathon in heat I will take a packet of salt with some water and it seems like it makes a big difference to how I feel during and after the race. I think you're doing amazingly well. I usually run slower in the summer so yes, you probably will be faster when…

I think this is a very common problem. Running really makes that colon want to MOVE. Is there a possibility of doing a quick warm-up jog close to home, return and use the bathroom before heading out for the longer duration? Or plan a bathroom stop on the way - I know where all the porta-a-potties and public restrooms are…

The American Heart Association is one of the few organizations to give specific guidance on added sugar. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4471 In this article, they state that for a woman, a maximum of 100 calories per day should come from added sugar. 4 calories per gram means that 100 calories of…

As far as I can tell, the guideline used on MFP is the one based on *added* sugar, rather than that found naturally in fruits and milk. I wanted to monitor my added sugar (as compared with sugar in fruits, dairy, etc.) and set up an "Added Sugar" meal. Not that I eat all the foods in one meal, but I do track them all in…

A very interesting read! This seems like a false dichotomy - both are good in different ways, so...do some of each!

I think you're smart to do the 2-12 minute intervals. I did C25K and remember being so doubtful about that first 20 minute run. I decided that I just had to put my faith in the program - it had prepared many others for this and it had prepared me as well. You are capable of more than you think you are capable of. So much…

Spinning is a very fun and potentially quite challenging workout. I love it because it requires little coordination, and is good for people at all different fitness levels, so I can bike with friends! I do have a few tips: 1. Arrive at your first class early and let the instructor know it is your first class. She or he…

Congratulations on your wonderful accomplishments so far! You've done amazing work! I have not lost as much as you, but I have been maintaining, sometimes gaining a bit, sometimes losing, for about a year and a half now. My experience is that the last 10 pounds are always hard-won and hard-maintained. If you feel good…

Amen. Beautifully said. If you want it bad enough to do the work and stick with it long term, you can have whatever you want. Do you have a blog? This would be a beautiful start to a blog of your journey. I know I'd read it!

I also lost most of my weight on WW Momentum plan. I did make healthier choices most of the time and it worked well for me. I broke up with WW after the new program as well. I can't handle "Free Fruit" and I resent having to track something that they claim should be zero as something other than zero to make the plan work.…

I agree, there is no real "average" 5K-er. I have run quite a few, and have gotten faster over the years I have been doing them. There are a lot of things that factor in besides weight, including gender, weight, and even weather - I'm definitely faster in cooler temps, slower in warmer weather/higher humidity. I agree with…

I could be wrong about this, but I have been looking around for information on this topic, and I believe that the rather low number we are given is the upper limit for ADDED sugar given our overall caloric intake. Almost everything I have read says that we don't need to worry as much about the sugars in fruit, vegetables,…

Hi Jessica, I know exactly what you mean - it takes me 4x as long to lose the weight as it does to put it back on. Because there is only so much you can cut back, but what is the upper limit on overeating? It's definitely bigger than I'm willing/able to cut back to lose it. As for working out not being worth it if you are…

I am also guilty of eating too much good stuff. Plus ice cream. Ice cream has been my kryptonite in the past, although I feel like I've got it pretty well managed now (mainly by not keeping it in the house, really and making sure to get some out in the world once in a while). MFP is great for a reality check of how much…

You got it, Matt. We will hold your feet to the fire...in the nicest way possible. Actually, I'm not really one to judge food choices too harshly - hey if you track it that is the right direction as far as I'm concerned - but if you disappear for a couple of days I will be on your case for sure. :-) So glad you are here!

Oh, while earlier I said that all Disney 5K's have finisher's medals, I do have to say that there is no medal for the Castaway Cay 5K - that one is a more informal event - more like a fun run where you show up and run that morning on the island I believe you get a certificate, and sometimes people have gotten pins for that…

The Disney 5K's always have cute plastic "medals." The Disney Half marathons have really nice, large, metal medals. Most 5K's don't have a medal, just a t-shirt. Many half marathons do have medals, but not all by any means. It is great to have an event to train for!

Apparently not a lot of opinions out there on this? For babywearing, I think it would be like doing the workout weighing more than you do - could you go to a calculator like this one: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/burned/calories_burned_Carrying_infant_or_15_lb_load_e_g_suitcase_level_ground_or_downstairs.html And increase…

I also do circuit training, general. Though I'm not sure of the accuracy of that as an equivalent.
