I started weighing monthly last October and love the mental freedom from the scale. Unfortunately, my weight is ticking up ever so slightly so I may need to go back to weekly. Daily is too stressful for me but I applaud those who can wave off several pounds of daily fluctuations-- I can't.

Turkey tacos-- ground turkey, taco spice, light sour cream, shredded cheese, iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes. It's super fast; we use the iceberg as the taco shell but you could buy actual shells for the kids. Time to table? 15 minutes max.

NYC- thanks for sharing! I have a charge HR and love it; good to know how accurate it is!

I'm at JW Marriott right now and I had a hamburger off the children's menu (minus 1/2 bun) with a side of fruit. Best I could do poolside! Good luck, work travel is hard but I'm going to look at it as every meal or snack is a new opportunity to make the best decision I can!

I'd say almonds or walnuts.

A simpler version could be I "don't eat fake foods" or I "won't eat foods that have ingredients that sound like chemical weapons". Not a bad philosophy.

No, he's not ready. But that wouldn't stop me from picking up the bag of Oreos and saying WTF! It's really not fair to you to have all that crap in the house.

The body doesn't register HFCS as sugar and thus it can't be processed by insulin-- instead it has to be cleaned up by the liver like other toxins. In order to process it, the liver actually has to produce fat and triglycerides. Not sure if all that makes you gain weight but it certainly is not good for you.

Ditto. I started a Fitbit cult in my office. Tons of fun competing and smack talk!

I have the Charge HR and really like it. A friend has the Surge and it looks like she's got a VCR strapped to her wrist. No thanks.
-
Wow, hardcore. I like it.

I have the Fitbit Charge HR as well and really like it. It monitors heart rate, steps, calories burned, floors climbed and sleep.

Laughing. Out. Loud. SO funny! Good for you!

Most people think the same way you do however studies show that shame and guilt only cause us to want to ease the pain with the exact substance we feel ashamed about (food). Thinking about how proud you'll be if you don't binge (or whatever) works better than shame. The "Willpower Instinct" is a great book that outlines…

This might sound a little "fluffy" but I recently read that dieters have more success acknowledging a craving or desire instead of saying to themselves "no I'm on a diet" and then trying to distract themselves. Be mindful and aware of the craving but remind yourself that you don't need to act on it. I successfully stared…

I walk outside 30-45 min a day. It reduces stress and helps me maintain my weight. Where I walk is quite hilly so it's a good workout! I've had a Fitbit for almost 2 years and this has also helped me keep focus on moving.

I drink this almost every day for breakfast: 1scoop Combat Protein powder (25 g protein) 75 g frozen blueberries 1/4 - 1/2 c Greek yogurt (plain, Costco) 2 t Benefiber powder Sometimes I add 1 T coconut oil but that's an exra 130 cals so not always 1/2 c water I blend for about 30 sec in magic bullet Enjoy!

Bump. Great post, tomatoey!

Love my Fitbit!! Got mine in April 2013 and I'm positive it's helped me be more active and maintain weight. The challenges are fun!

When I was unemployed, I lost some weight. I walked a lot just to clear my head and keep a positive outlook. Sometimes I'd walk up to 90 minutes a day, always outside. Remember to tell yourself that how you pursue health (or not) is a choice and you have complete control over that choice-- no matter what your mood or…

Sounds like a great trip! Good for you for putting on the breaks at a 10 pound gain instead of 30 or 40. Your peeps at work aren't going to understand-- get support elsewhere (like here)!

I have a hundred pros but a con is that it makes me not want to do resistance training b/c I don't get steps for it and I can't keep up with people on my leaderboard! The competition is ruthless! :)
-
The title of your post should be "tried hard, lost belly fat". Congrats, keep it up!

It's my go-to workout when I want something effective and quick... It's only 25 minutes so I have a hard time using the "not enough time to work out" excuse! By now, I've memorized all her comments so I just put her on mute and turn up my music. Done in no time!

I let Fitbit count running/walking but will generally log activities that Fitbit has trouble with like biking, skiing or weight lifting.
-
It's a pretty boring secret... count calories, watch your portions, get some exercise, cut back on sugar and processed foods
-
For me, it's mental. I have decided to make better choices... "today is a new day to make the right choices". It's also about planning. Plan your food and meals and you won't need to rely on cereal b/c you are starving when you get home. Good luck!
-
I have a One an love it! The zip won't analyze sleep or count stairs/hills. Plus you can charge One's battery. Whatever you get, it's totally motivating and a game changer!
-
You're awesome! I'm so glad we are friends! :)

Anyone can add me. I'm on the Fitbit site even more than MFP some days. Love my Fitbit One!! http://www.fitbit.com/user/25LS6D
