I dont trust that machine. Seems like a show off machine. See guys pile on the weight using all the 45s in the gym. I bet I can squat more than them though and I dont even squat all that much weight yet. The machine just seems gimmicky. I dont waste my time with it.

I am doing starting strength as well. I am 36 and overweight. I am doing it on a calorie deficit and making good strength gains and losing weight. You will get the most out of compound lifts. Look into starting strength, strong lifts 5x5 or the new rules of lifting for women.

Pedromcdodge is wrong. You can easily gain strength on cal deficIt. Building strength is not dependent upon adding muscle.

Put your headphones on and just do it like everybody else there. If nervous find a treadmill and walk it for a half hour for first time. Relax and take it slow, lots of newbies this time of year. Dont stress it, just do it.

Legs may be like tree trunks but should be doing some compound lifts. Deadlifts and squats. They work whole body and are great workout to. Start low and work on form and add weight each time. With strong legs you will love these, but you will find your legs werent as strong as you thought. I do spinning and lifting to.

Make sure youmare doing some compound lifts and adding weight everytime you lift. Your muscles wont really get much bigger as you are trying to lose weight. Monday is the busiest day at gym. Most people lift monday wed friday. I lift tuesday thursday sat and find it much less crowded for benches, squat rack as it it most lifters rest day.
