It's interesting how different maintaining and losing is for everyone. I really appreciate all of you for taking the time to respond. Thanks!!

Shoot for 50, and if you fall a little short and only lose 40, then who cares, you'll be 40 lbs lighter. You can do this!!

NikkiMichelleS, the first time we hiked the Grand Canyon we did it in 2 days. This time we just took a little more time and enjoyed it. Such a great experience. Hope to do it many more times!

NorthCascades, I'll definitely contact you when we go. Thanks for your help :)

Backpacking is so fun :)

Adding that to my bucket list. One of these days we'll definitely get up there. My husband grew up around there. You take great pictures!

NorthCascades, thank you for the picture of the bag/blanket, that's really awesome! I Definitely want to try that.

I love that bottom picture, did you take that? It's gorgeous!! Bet that was an awesome trip.

I've never understood why people feel the need to comment on posts and be rude and try to make the original poster feel stupid. Isn't this suppose to be a website where people come to learn and support each other?? I obviously don't understand how it works. I honestly thought I would get on the scale this morning and see a…

I saw several Deuter packs down in the canyon, they make great packs. I have a Gregory and love it. Well, Happy trails to you!

I like the down quilt idea. I feel too restricted in my bag, I may try that. I don't have any ultra light tips, sorry. Just share weight with others ;) What kind of pack did you get midwesterner85?

We had 6 people in our group and only 2 tents so the weight was distributed. My husbands pack was definitely heavier. I weighed my pack after the hike, without any food or water in it so it was probably more like 30. I can't imagine a 37-50 lb pack. Maybe someday I'll be that strong! And btw, I LOVE mountain house. Beef…

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your wisdom. This makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't do it to lose weight, I did it for fun. But when you are trying to lose weight and you backpack 18 miles, you hope you do lose a little. I'm jealous of the Italy travelers, that sounds so fun!!

Good advice, thank you!

You're wiser than I. Thanks so much for the reply!

Ok, that's what I figured. Thanks for replying!

Had my thyroid removed Nov 2015 due to papillary thyroid cancer. I have to have radioactive iodine treatment in June. I'm taking 137mg levothyrixine. It has been hard to lose weight. Very hard. Like dv3177 said, it takes some time for your body to recover and get your levels stable. I've lost 25 pounds since the middle of…

This is the most encouraging post I've read. Thank you for taking the time to share this with all of us. I love your approach, exercise and eating less. So simple. Kind of ;) Glad to hear you ate pizza and didn't feel like you needed to count macros or do any other special stuff. You've inspired me to go walking today and…

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it!

Sorry, I had more, but it didn't post it. I see other people talk about TDEE. Is this the best way to go? It has me eating a few hundred more cals a day. I'm concerned that if I eat that many calories I'll maintain or lose so slowly that I give up. What should I do? Stats: SW 224 CW 204 GE 170 5'10" female 38 yrs Lift…

I like #4. Cardio is good for the heart!

You look great. So jealous. I only have 20 of my 40 lbs left to lose also. But I definitely don't look like that! You should be so proud!
