Actually Zinc and Copper are essential nutrients :noway:

It depends how your blood pressure is. If you have high blood pressure or any other risk for cardiovascular disease it might be a good idea to try and reduce it. The easiest way to reduce salt content in the diet is to reduce processed food consumption. However if you are in otherwise good health I would focus more on…

My friend was often like this too - he would always say "I'm a big guy so I don't get full as quickly". But those big portions were the reason he was a big guy! Its all about perception! Try eating more slowly - so that your body has time to adjust and you feel more full. Sometimes when you eat a lot really fast your body…

I never thought to do this! kinda brilliant! its not something I would do all the time but it certainly takes the daily burden off of going over calories - like today for easter dinner :)

Wow!! SO great!!!

wow!! so amazing. Some of the other stories on here are inspiring but so different from my own experience that they don't have the same influence. But your story was so inspiring to me!! I love that you generally eat what ever you like and have such acceptance over it! I am still at the point where I feel guilty if I eat…

Wow!!! what an amazing difference, congrats!

Wow!! So inspiring, good luck in the future!!:flowerforyou:

If you find you kinda graze your cupboards at night eating anything you can get your hands on with out making a meal of it... this is my suggestion Push all your meals a bit later if you can or at least have a later dinner. this will at least shrink the amount of time you have for dessert snacking. Then - pre log a good…

absolutely amazing!!

What a beaut!! (before and after!) Great transformation congrats

What a huge accomplishment - great job:flowerforyou:

Motivation is tough! But just try to remember that you CAN do this. Proof is there - you've done this in the past, therefore why doubt your future success? What helped to motivate you before? There are a couple things you could try to Re: snacking.... 1) PRE- log your day so that you fit the snacks into your calorie…

If you're truly logging everything your eating (which I don't doubt) Than you should consider lowering your calories, maybe try 1400 for a bit? TDEE calculations are just that - they are calculations and they can't account for every variable in each individuals body. If you have been consuming 1650 calories each day and…

My first suggestion would be to do spinach instead of kale. Kale is tougher and more "earthy" tasting - not as easy to hide. even though kale is considered to be a "superfood" spinach actually has an amazing nutrient profile as well and is still SUPER healthy. Here is what I have and I love it! - 1/2 cup frozen blueberries…

If texture is an issue blend it up in soups or smoothies - if you are comfortable cooking - try buying a hand blender and just throw some stuff in a pot, boil, season, blend - there ya have some yummy soup :) OR just try other raw crunchy veg - jicima is very neutral tasting, add shredded carrots to your salads. what about…

Try shaving in cooler water with hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. Use a really sharp razor and don't push down too hard on the skin (just lightly enough to catch the hairs and not scrap the first layer of skin) then apply a nice soothing lotion. Maybe this is a weird question, but are you sure they are ingrown…

Great response! :flowerforyou: I totally agree :)

Okay sure. I didn't say anything because if I did you might have called me preachy instead. Healthy soil = nutrient rich food = healthy people. While this isn't directly what I said, it is tied to it: choosing whole foods that are not heavily processed are better for your health.…

So are you saying I shouldn't have bothered even bringing it up? Just because I care about soil fertility doesn't make me a "environmentalist" and doesn't make me a pretentious person. Hence my whole frustration.

This argument is so weird to me. Problem is that if there are apples in a food product they say "apples" on the ingredient list, there is no other word for "polysorbate 80" which is a chemical not something I want to munch on, therefore it has to be labelled as such. There is a difference between the "chemicals" our apples…

In a sense it might be ideal. But that is pretty inconvenient and not a realistic way to eat. I wouldn't do it...
-
[ /quote] ETA: maybe it would help to make this comparison. When the OP says we should eat locally, etc., it's like when someone says they know they should recycle. Not like, YOU MUST DO THIS, but like, I know it's the right or responsible thing to do (depending on your personal ethics). [/quote] hooray for that! maybe I…

I just wrote a bunch of stuff - read it over and I sounded like a pretentious hipster so I deleted it... I'll say this though - what is better for the planet is often better for humans too. *edited to change hippie to hipster* :flowerforyou:

Sorry I should've clarified, it was not a rant because someone thought I was pretentious. It just seems to be a general theme about those "types" of people.

Yes if you are growing hundreds of acres of one crop, it selects for bugs that love that crop. But if you have MANY different plants and animals on the farm, and use crop rotation methods, you don't run into as many problems as you might think. If the farmer is conscious of the way ecology works you really don't need…

you didn't think I expected you all to eat cactus, did you?

The problem is that it is very difficult to do these types of epidemiological studies. How do you find two close-to-identical groups of people that only differ in pesticide usage. even if you base it on countries that aren't using pesticide there are too many other factors that might contribute to differences between the…

Actually I recently learned that the term free range is often a marketing ploy as well. Free run = no cages free range = controlled access to outdoors, which in many cases is 1 or 2 hours a day pastured = generally unlimited access to grass, bugs and sunlight and unconfined access to and from a pen
