  • Holy crap, people are vicious on this site. Don't tell me to shut my mouth and ignore an actual problem. I'm not sitting at home crying about it, but it does create an inferiority complex in a lot of people and I was really curious as to what women here thought. I won't post here again, too annoying.
  • Anyway, I was trying to get women to discuss conflicting feelings about weight loss here, not get into political/sociological/anthropological discussion on women/men/society. Recognizing my feelings and how I'm treated by the world I live in is not an inherent attack on all men, or even men per se, so I'm not sure why some…
  • We both have pressures, but misogyny leads to self-harm, harm from the outside (in the form of rape and other abuse), economic inequality, political inequality, and even inequality in the healthcare realm. The pressure for men to be strong is a pressure, but not one that defines whether or not you can walk down the street…
  • I'm obviously not speaking for ALL women on the planet. I'm just commenting on how sometimes it is difficult for me to differentiate between being told to be thin vs wanting to be thin. Some women don't have issues, a lot do, and it's not an inherent weakness on their behalf.
  • To somefitsomefa: Your comment is exactly why women simply can't just ignore outside influences. First of all, you assume that you know better than any woman how to eliminate the problem even though you've never been a woman or ever given this any thought. You're doubting us right away by saying we lack common sense. You…
  • Well, you can see it in the culture, it's more subversive than saying, "Care about your weight because it's all you have!" We care more about any actress's weight than how well they do in movies, like if a fat woman is in the movie, people get really upset just because she's seen in a public form, nevermind how well she…
  • It's suggested that you not lose weight until you're no longer breastfeeding. The baby needs all the fat and calories it can get.
  • That's where estrogen is stored, so it's perfectly normal to have it as a woman. The appearance/flatness of that area of the body has a lot to do with genetics.
  • Like anything good, sugar should be cut down but doesn't necessarily have to be eliminated. it's just not good because our bodies aren't made to consume that much of it; unless you're in the tropics and surrounded by fruit, it's not that easy to find in nature, which is why we're used to it in small quantities. Of course…
  • Generally craving chocolate means you need magnesium, or some other kinds of minerals and nutrients. Try supplementing with these (a good way to get magnesium is by taking a bath in epsom salts so it gets through the skin), or getting some blood work done to see what you're low on.
  • I go back and forth. Sometimes I wonder if it's good for my self esteem to be tied to my weight, other times I'm mostly just proud of the accomplishments: eating well, exercising, being able to do some things without getting tired or out of breath and yes, ultimately losing pounds.
  • It just becomes a helpful little habit. I think I asked myself this same question a couple years ago and the funniest response was, "I'll never stop! I'll enter the fluid they pump into my dead body before they bury me!"
  • I'm 6' and I've never had a problem, buuuut I've usually gone out with guys shorter than me. I don't know if it's my personal preference, or I just don't meet guys who are taller than me, but sometimes it's nice because you don't get any of that "You're too tall for me" ego with someone who is the same height or shorter.
  • Sigh, yes I played basketball *as a kid* and no, I don't play it anymore. Please stop asking! Also seems too frivolous to complain, but I feel like I have this conversation a lot: Them: you're so tall! You should be a model! Me: Thanks, but height isn't all you need. I weigh too much, and I'm probably too curvy. Them:…
  • I eat cleanER just because it's easier to stay within my allotted calories. And regularly exercising makes me want to eat better because it makes me feel better, so it kind of happened naturally that way. But yes, I had two candy bars yesterday and regularly eat chips of all kinds. I imagine if you hit a plateau or…
  • Very, VERY inspiring. You look amazing and most importantly, you probably feel amazing too! Congratulations.
  • Amazing! That is truly something to be proud of!
  • Stunning! Also, it takes a while for your brain to catch up to your body, so don't worry...you'll think you look as good as you DO look soon enough!!
  • Also keep an eye out for sugar in every single thing you eat. Everything nowadays has sugar packed in somewhere under a variety of different names: high fructose corn syrup, cane juice, dextrose, fructose, etc etc. Sometimes all those things in one product! Make sure sugar isn't in one of the first three ingredients.
  • I don't mean to be a downer, but I've lose ten pounds and see absolutely no difference in my before/after pictures. Don't get discouraged, but it took me three months of calorie restriction and exercise before I lost the first pound.
  • I'm really, really sorry to hear this, and no, you're not shallow for having these thoughts right now. Just let yourself do what feels good for right now because mental health is key at this moment. You'll get back in the game when you're good and ready, but don't beat yourself up because what you want to do (and what…
  • Agreed that the body can be more wonky than any scale. I didn't lose even a pound until 3-4 months of better eating and exercise, and during that time my scale would be up and down like crazy. I try not to weigh myself too much because the numbers would make me insane. Now I only weigh in every couple weeks and the change…
  • Anything by The Faint and yes, Prodigy :)
  • Good luck! Keeping track on here certainly is the slap in the face I needed, so hopefully it will help you too!
  • I do the Denise Austin Daily Dozen. It's only 10-12 minutes, I do it a couple times a week, and it's really the only thing that has helped me start losing pounds. Worth a shot!
  • I think that now you've realized it's not simply a diet, but a lifestyle change, you are totally ready and it will happen. I think this site is great and has helped me, and once you realize how many calories are actually in foods and how many calories exercise actually burns the pounds will eventually start to melt away!
