  • I'm with you. I find that if I have a few drinks, my food plan goes haywire. The alcohol isn't so bad by itself, but my blood sugar goes wacko and I end up munching my way up the scale when I'm trying to go down. Let's see if I can get through February.
  • When I am working, I eat every 2-3 hours, but when I'm not, I just eat when I'm hungry. The main thing is to: (1) keep your metabolism working (think adding logs to a fire to keep it going instead of waiting until it is out and trying to add a new log) (2) keep meal portions small When I'm not working, I may have a more…
  • Understand being upset by the sodium, but I'm a capers/anchovy/lemon fan. A little pasta in a light tangy sauce like that is right up my alley. :)
  • ALL of us have the experience of a bad day turning into more than that. You are not alone. The thing to remember is that EVERY DAY is the re-start. Even if you had a good previous day. Each day is a new one for you -- the first one of its kind you've ever seen - it's just another step toward your goal. Some days are less…
  • Welcome back! Great to see someone who is keeping it off. That is the hardest part -- to keep vigilant! :) Bravo for you coming back and getting rid of those pesky 5 before they become those pesky 10!
  • Oh, I am so in! I did just find out that Newcastle Nut Brown Ale is only 150 cal per serving, which is fantastic. Also, a 12 oz Guinness is 120 cal. Those two are life savers for me, but my real downfall is going out to a nice restaurant with my husband. I just cannot turn down a delicious red wine...The hard part has been…
  • Since you asked in the comments, I looked on other sites for calorie counts. The following is the nutrition info on 3 pork dumplings (fried) from dailyburn.com Serving Size 3 pieces Amount Per Serving Calories 338 % Daily Value* Total Fat 20.7 g 32 % Total Carbohydrate 24 g 8 % Protein 13.0 g 26 % * Percent Daily Values…
  • I certainly make more stews and hearty meals when it's cold than I do in the summertime, but those urges are just that - urges. It's what we do that makes a difference in how we live and feel. You can do it. You have MFP and others to support you. Resist, continue toward your goal. We're with you!
  • I made a promise to myself to log everything. I've had bad days where all the totals are in red because I went over my plan, but that's the way it goes. I weigh in now once a week, too - and log it. Last time, I went up; this time I'm down lower than ever before. It is reassuring to me to see the results of good behavior…
  • My camera doesn't work, so I'll have to list. I have 2 tupperware containers with leftover veal stew. I have 1 tupperware container with leftover 3-bean cassoulet. I have 8 yoplait fat free yogurts I have 4 yoplait delight parfaits I have soy milk (unsweetened/organic), 1 qt 2% milk (hubby's fav) I have a small container…
  • I don't know why it works, either, but I sometimes visit websites for restaurants I'd like to go to someday. LIke Per Se in NYC, or The French Laundry, or Babbo. I read the menu and imagine eating everything on the tasting menu, if they have one, or select the most delicious items for my own grand tasting. It's satisfying…
  • Give yourself a break! You have a new baby, and the time goes by so fast. Enjoy your time with her, and don't stress about working out. If you relax with her, you'll get your energy back. You are so blessed. At MFP we're all about lifestyle change for the better. Your lifestyle has changed, girl! You'll find your rhythm.…
  • Something is goofy in the database. Eggs have protein - even over easy! :)
  • I'm not familiar with Zaxby's, but I can understand the situation. I tried losing weight by just working out (still eating whatever I wanted). I managed to stay the same, but I didn't lose anything. I should be grateful, since I could have gained a lot if I hadn't worked out, but it was an awful lot of work for what felt…
  • I hear you! I run until I need to walk some, and when my breathing gets more normal, I run again. I try and get about 3 miles in 3x a week, building up to more often and then longer, but it's hard. Just do what you can and before long you'll find that what seems impossible now will become your 'easy run' later. I know it…
  • My diary is open, and I'd love another MFP friend! We're all here to support each other. NOTE: I sometimes mess up, so some days I'm not good, but there are some good days on there, too. I log everything, even when I screw up. Weigh in Friday, and I promised I'd log it whether it went up or down or stayed the same, so I am…
  • I have the same problem with a husband who is often away for work. It's harder some times than others. Here's what I did. First thing was to build up a 'tool box' of non-food treats that I could use instead of food when I'm bored or tired or just feeling like 'one cheat won't matter'. Looks like you have a small child, so…
  • You are such an inspiration! Just trying to eat right and get exercise in is such a struggle, but stories like yours show me I can do it if I just don't quit. Thank you so much for sharing!!
  • Thanks for that recipe! I love my slow cooker, and that sounds delightful!
  • Good luck! You'll find that logging is the best thing you can do, and, since you're already used to that, you will do great! Lots of great people and ideas here, and lots of people you'll find who are in the same place as you are (which is encouraging in its own way, too).
  • You definitely can change! It is amazing what logging does to help you see where you are, and you can look back and see how far you've come before long. Just don't lose sight of the big picture. If you have a bad day, just suck it up and keep going. It's the long haul that's going to keep you around to see your daughters…
  • So sorry this happened to you. There are some good people out there, though. Did you ask at the theater, too? I've been surprised at the integrity of low-paid theater workers who put things they find in the lost-and-found. Hope the rest of the week is better for you!
  • The good: He is warm and kind and supports me no matter what. He didn't complain or criticize me when I gained weight. He put up with 1/2 marathon training and my goofy work out schedule. He's a chef who purposely lightens recipes he makes for me to fit into my calorie budget. He makes me laugh, and reads to me at night…
  • Look at the quality of the 5-6 meals you have. Make sure you are getting enough veggies, fruit, and protein. Cook everything al dente (i.e., firm but not hard) and make sure to limit the processed foods. If the manufacturer processes the fiber out of the food (i.e., high temp cooking for canned veggies and soups,…
  • I love my crock pot. Allrecipes.com has some great ones. One of the benefits you get from a crockpot is that you don't need to add any extra fat for frying or anything. Just put the ingredients in and turn it on low. If you want specific recipes, just friend me and I'm happy to share -- I have lots! Nice to know we have…
  • This is GREAT advice, and exactly what I have to do. In fact, I even need a little protein with fruit (like peanut butter on apple slices, or an orange with a small yogurt). If I have fruit without the protein, I end up feeling tired. If I do have the protein (which I've learned to do and continue to do) then the fruit…
  • Fructose - the sugar in fruit has a lower glycemic index value than sucrose (cane sugar). There are LOTS of types of sugars that are natural and each has their place. I am very sensitive to sugar and, when I have a piece of fruit, I accompany it with a small protein like a 4 oz yogurt or a light cheese stick. Since fruit…
  • I am afraid this is happening to me. I don't work out so very much (like some people here) but am trying to move everyday to some degree. I have days when I am hungry all day long and other days when it is an effort to remember to eat something. I eat a little something every 2 or 3 hours. Even so, sometimes I don't quite…
  • I'm in. For this month, I want to log everything - even if I lapse - so that I can get a handle on what triggers the bad behaviors. Also, I'm working at a job that ends at the end of the month, so I'm facing a lot of stress with applications and interviews and am determined not to use that as an excuse to binge. More…
  • If they have classes, try them out. I used to only go to the spinning classes, but now I am getting braver (i.e., willing to look like the uncoordinated nerd I am) and trying other classes. Supposedly, elliptical machines are easier on your joints, but as someone else said here, some are better than others. Try them out,…
