@Deem114 - Welcome! Totally get the lurker bit.... I did the same! Glad you've decided to join us! Many of us share a story similar to yours. Congratulations, by the way, on the weight loss you've already had -- looks like about 80 lbs from your highest weight, which is amazing. I'm also thrilled you have a supportive…

Congratulations!!! That's fabulous!!

HLaR79 -- sounds like you're doing well! That evening snack is a tough habit to break. Happy to report I've tracked a whole three days in a row! Going for four tomorrow!
-
For me the key was to find a level that allowed me to lose yet not feel hungry. And yes, I think you're right about calorie needs going down as weight goes down.
-
@HLaR79 - love the walking with your son! And @jltheis7, oh my gosh! When you say life issues you mean it! My one goal for this week is to just log. I was traveling and then had some health problems, and used both as an excuse to myself to stop tracking. It's always the first thing to go.... even though it's probably the…

I just want to get back to tracking this week.

Hi Gayle - I sent you a private message with my doc's recommendation! --Patty

For the life of me I can't think of a funny story about this journey -- although I know I've had them! Thought I'd post anyway so this fun thread doesn't fall too far down. I know all of you have great tales to tell!
-
That's wonderful! Recognizing that exercise really helps lift your mood sounds like a great long-term motivator!
-
Sounds like you're on a bit of a roller coaster right now! First, congrats on the 2.2 lbs!! (I wish I could say the same!) I totally understand that urge to justify your 0.5 lb goal, but there's no need to. It's your goal -- no one else's. And you're the only one who knows what's right for you. And second, so sorry about…

Unfortunately, I won't be going to Pigeon Forge. I live in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of D.C. I'll see what I can find out about an obesity specialist in Minnesota for you!
-
hahahaha! I have a cat that might do just that! In fact, she's annoying me now so I'll have to get back to you with funny stories!

Hi Gayle -- My doctor is Scott Kahan, the Director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness (NCWW) in Washington DC. His practice takes a 360 degree approach to treating obesity by providing medical, psychological, exercise, and nutritional support. He first helped me reorder my eating, which boosted my metabolism a…

Thanks everybody!

I came out as a horse -- I'd rather have the wine!!!

At the weight I was (I started at about 375 and have lost about 110), it didn't matter too much in the beginning whether I did or didn't eat them back. I continued to lose weight... although always very slowly. Now, I try to listen to my body rather than just look at the numbers. If I've exercised a lot and feel…

Oh my giddy aunt indeed! To all of you!

Hi Skittles -- I have not opted for WLS for a whole bunch of reasons. But many of those reasons are very specific to my own health concerns. As @bevkidd1 says, you need to do what's right for you and we're here to support you whatever you decide. The folks I've seen who have had the most success are those who understand…
-
@Cynsonya - Welcome! Of course you're welcome here! Congrats on your progress so far. I think it helps when you can find folks who can truly understand what you're experiencing and feeling. And I bet you'll find that in this group.

Wow! Good for you! You are such an inspiration! It's so very important to work through -- and walk through -- our negative self-talk. Just out of curiosity, are you taking the job?
-
Woo Whoo! Great progress on getting in shape, that's for sure!!
-
Well I've learned that my pre-meal logging only works if I have enough food in the house for the week! Good lessen, especially since it did seem to be helping me control my evening eating. Doing a little better with water, so that's a small move forward. Hope everyone else is moving towards their goals for the week!
-
No kids here either, so no candy excuses! Not even sure what I'm doing for Easter dinner yet. Seems to have come up really fast.
-
Well done everyone!
-
I've done ok with the pre-planning goal I set. But I too have been falling short on water. (I'm doing far to well on coffee, though!)
-
@hillamb -- Hi Hillary! Welcome! Your statistics and your weight goal are very similar to mine when I first started (except that I wasn't smart enough to start until I was much older -- about 54 or 55!). I applaud your goal of wanting to lose the weight for good. I've lost about 110 pounds, so I still have more to go. But…

Thanks for starting this week's thread! I have two main goals for this week. First, drink more water than I've been drinking. (Some blood tests I had today showed I'm slightly dehydrated.) And second, I'm going to try and fill out my food diary one day ahead, so that I've already decided what I'm eating the next day. I've…

What great news! Congrats!

You look fabulous!! Congratulations!! Have you thought about a plan for keeping it off?
