I'm 5'4 and eat just over 1600 a day. If I exercise I eat about 1/2 of my calories back. If you exercise you should definitely eat some of your calories back, especially if you're only eating 1200 calories a day. Your body needs fuel.

Yes, my weight fluctuates daily. If it's that time of the month or I eat a high sodium meal my weight shoots up (but only temporarily), I make sure to drink A LOT of water daily to counteract the water weight. It works.

No. I'm on Weight Watchers but I also count calories using MFP. My calorie intake varies daily and I think it works better for me then sticking to X amount of calories every day. My calorie could vary as much as 500 calories a day.

Focus on a high protein breakfast in the morning, protein will keep you full longer then carbs. -- Veggie omelette -- 2 slices of turkey bacon with egg whites on wheat toast -- Eggs whites made with peppers and onions on wheat toast with a lean slice of ham Add a piece of fruit to your high protein breakfast and you'll be…

I've done both Weight Watchers and MFP. IMO, both programs work but I prefer WW. The only reason i'm currently doing MFP is because it's free. I enjoy the support of a Weight Watchers meeting, the MFP message boards are great but not quite the same. For the last few days i've been counting both points and calories and yes…

I can relate. I'm back today after almost a month "off" and I feel horrible but i'm back, you're back and I think that's the most important thing! Just take things one day at a time, don't focus on past failures, just focus on right now and changing one bad behavior at a time.
-
I think you're doing great and i'm sorry your mom has not been more of a support to you but don't let her comment make you 2nd guess yourself.

I'm a yo-yo dieter as well but i've promised myself that this will be the LAST time. I can't continue to lose and gain, lose and gain, lose and gain. It's getting ridiculous. LOL. Good luck on your weightloss journey, i'm sure you'll do great!

I eat over 1600 calories a day and managed to lose 14 lbs in a month with very little exercise. Obviously everyone is different and I have "more to lose" but unless you're already very thin, close to goal or have a medical reason. 1200 calories a day, every day seems unsustainable to me.

I don't have a "cheat day" but i'm a lot more relaxed with my eating on the Weekends. I usually stay in my calories though but I might eat fast food a bit more. With that said, I don't cut out anything in my diet because I truly believe that we should be allowed to eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in moderation. If I completely…

I log after every meal except dinner, usually I have to log before dinner so I know how much I can eat. If I logged after dinner I would probably go over my calories for the day. LOL

I'm 5'4 and have about 73 lbs to lose. I would like to lose it ASAP but i'm not really in a rush.
-
Well I would like to say that I only weigh myself once a week because I know that is ideal, but the reality is that I weigh myself almost every day. I only "count" my Thursday morning weigh in on MFP though.
-
As you lose weight you're recommended calorie intake will decrease. I have mines set to lose 1 lb a week, lost 8 lbs the first week and my calories have already decreased by 40 calories a day. As an "overweight/obese" person we could eat more then those closer to a healthy weight. Our larger bodies need more fuel to keep…

I like cereal. Sometimes I have a high fiber/low fat cereal for breakfast but it doesn't "hold me over" as much as a protein does. I can't imagine eating cereal for 2 weeks would be any better then just eating a healthy, sensible breakfast every morning.

Thanks everyone! Yes, the first few days were rough. I've lost weight before by counting points on Weight Watchers but counting calories is new to me so there was a bit of a learning curve and i'm still new so i'm sure i'll learn a lot more as time goes on.
-
I'm new as well and need to lose about 85 lbs, so not quite 100 but close enough... Of course 85 lbs will bring me to the "higher end" of a healthy weight so once I get there I may want/need to lose more. I guess we'll see!

Awesome job! Congrats on the weightloss!

^ That's amazing! and Congrats on your weightloss. =)

My suggestion is to not do anything now (while you're trying to lose weight) that you don't want to do for the rest of your life. So eat healthy but don't go overboard and make sure to still allow yourself things that you love.

I'm on Day 4 and I have to say I feel great! I eat the recommonded calories for a 1 lb loss and sometimes I feel like it's too much but I peaked at the scale and lost a bit so i'm thrilled... I just wonder if it's "too much" food, and i'm afraid I won't lose so I wanted to make sure people are really losing. I think I…

If you're having a hard time eating all of your calories... Trying eating full fat items of the stuff you do eat, like full fat cheese Vs. reduced fat cheese, drink 1% or 2% milk vs. Skim milk, etc.... These fuller fat items have more calories but you'll be eating about the same amount... so like you'll still be drinking a…

Slow and steady wins the race... Faster is not always better.

Once a week, preferably the same day/time every week.

Fast food burgers. Mmmm

I'm used to Weight Watchers, and just switched to MFP to "shake things up" and save some money. On Weight Watchers I could use ALL of the points giving to me and still lose 2+ lbs a week so i'm thinking I can get away with 1640 and still lose 1-2 lbs a week easily but I guess we'll see. I just started today.

I'm guessing I could "technically" eat anywhere from 1200-1640 calories a day, depending on how fast (or slow) I want to lose weight, correct? So as long as I eat no less then 1200 and no more then 1640 I should be ok, right?
