Neverending Story

I can relate to this, not because I've struggled myself, but because my father did. Chronic back issues and pain led him to abuse alcohol for many many years. He has been married twice and had four children. None of those six people, plus many more, have anything to do with him now. We all eventually made the difficult…

This is me to a T. I surround myself with people who level me out, particularly my husband. He's good at talking sense into me. Also by training myself to stop and think about things before acting. For things like weight loss though, this is a good quality to have. Once you've made up your mind to do it, nothing will stand…

No we don't. We're scared of guns and crazy people.
-
Where specifically? Are you flying or driving?
-
Or don't. Whatever.

Totally depends on the guy. Ragnar Lothbrok = YES; George Constanza = HECK NO
-
The good news is that it's reversible by making some lifestyle changes. Best of luck!

+1 Go get properly fitted for running shoes before this does turn into shin splints. Shin splints suck.

If you have a lack of time and weight loss is your goal, I would run. Start with the Couch To 5K app and work up from there. Yoga will not help your weight loss (not many calories burned), but it will help you with your running by increasing your strength and flexibility. Both of these will help you to avoid injury and…

Actually yoga and running are good partners. Why not do both?

I turn 40 in August. As much as I wish I'd figured this out 20 years ago, I'm very glad I've figured it out at all. I reached my goal weight about 18 months ago and have maintained with no problems. Start now, enjoy the rest of your life.

It seems like you are quite self-aware, and that's a good thing. You have acknowledged that you need to seek help, and you know what pace works for you. Continue to listen to your body and you'll do just fine.

If you frequent said mom and pop shop, chances are they know you. I would explain to them that you'd like to know the approximate measurements and ingredients because you are trying to lose weight and need to track your calories. If it's not a secret family recipe, I see no reason why they wouldn't oblige. If they don't…

Thanks for sharing. That must have been very difficult to overcome. Congrats!

Disagree: type of food makes no difference as long as you are at a deficit Agree: type of food will make a difference in your satiety = greater success in your weight loss journey this is a very basic take on it of course

Are you seriously debating the definition of the word professional? You must be bored today. Edited for ironic spelling error

You're cracking me up! Feel free to add me. I have hormonal issues too, went through menopause at the age of 26 (Premature Ovarian Failure). Currently not on hormones because they make me feel awful, but I understand the struggle.

I did see an allergist. That wasn't my question. Reading comprehension is important.

I love salad. I would eat salad every day if there wasn't so much prep involved

You will have bad days. My last two runs have been crap but I know those bad days are few and far between. Keep going!

Agreed. And I should mention that I do still take my Citalopram daily for my depression. It's just the Ativan I've been able to avoid for anxiety attacks, in favour of CBT. Any time I've felt well enough to go off my depression meds, it only take a few months to feel like crap again, so I plan to just stay on it.

Anxiety and depression often go hand in hand. Have you had any counselling for your anxiety? There are many coping skills that you may find helpful to employ while you're in the midst of a panic attack. My anxiety attacks got extreme after a serious car accident last year and I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was taught a…

I am so sorry for your loss

I <3 you

Oh how I can relate! When I first started running I was 230 lbs. It was very tough. I eventually lost 90lbs and running was much, much easier. During my weight loss I only did cardio, no strength training. Then I got pregnant and gained 75 lbs. I am now back down to my goal weight, although this time I've been…

I posted something very similar to this in a thread a while back. I think it was in one of the cleanse threads and I replied "use the search button". I immediately got a warning from the mods. I am offended that this thread which is much meaner, is now on page 4 with no warnings. I have determined that you guys are all…

Thanks so much for that enlightenment. Dr. Oz is also an M.D. but that doesn't mean that his word should be taken at face value should it? Tick tock tick tock....?? What does that even mean?? Moving on. Thank you everyone for your valuable feedback. I do understand that an allergist has an M.D. and is therefore…
