  • Hey, fellow Aussie :)
  • I feel your feels! I lost over 80lbs 2014-2016 and then managed to regain it all with friends over 2018 to now. I'm back slogging away at it now...
  • Re the elimination diet - I actually highly recommend the Whole30 if you're interested in assessing what different foods do to your body. I did it as a last resort to try and solve what was suspected to be chronic vestibular migraines, and found soooo many other interesting things about my reactions to particular foods.…
  • My current standard breakfast - 80g of full fat cottage cheese, mixed with a small tin of tuna and a crapton of Frank's Red Hot.
  • Only some of them, they generally feel very overblown.
  • And the rest - full digestion takes up to 36 hours.
  • Yup, and I figure that if I have the barcode, I have the packet, so I have the nutritional info. Definitely not worth the $129 (?!?!) a year they want for Premium.
  • Next year we are moving to a house with a pool, and I know we're going to end up hosting all the parties, and if I'm going to spend that much time in my togs, it's gonna need to look better!!
  • I don't use the word addiction for my sugar issues, for the reasons discussed in here, but I also fully acknowledge that unless I abstain completely from sugar-laden, highly palatable sweet foods, I will binge, to the point of and even beyond, feeling sick. I'm not mainlining raw sugar or jacking old ladies for the barley…
  • Can you take up a hobby that keeps your hands busy? Crochet, knitting etc?
  • This really resonates and it very much a conclusion I have come to. This was the mindset I had when I lost a great deal of weight 2014-2016 and maintained it til around 2018, and it was when that slipped that I piled it all back on.
  • Yup, it remembers which post you last saw, and will take you to the next one next time you come back. On the older threads with many pages, click to the last page and it will remember when you come back.
  • This skates very close to my most hated weight loss "motivational" phrase - that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". It implies that exercise is for burning off calories consumed. I exercise for strength, speed, health and endorphins. I eat tasty foods, even the ones that are not nutritionally brilliant, for…
  • It just slowly became part of my day - much like any other life admin. It does become easier once you build up a backlog of frequently used items and get comfortable with the food database and what entries are in the right units for you, and are reliable.
  • Been reporting this little gem as inaccurate for months now, to no avail... it's so ridiculously, blatantly wrong (the information is for a cereal of some type) and has 0 confirmations so it can't even be user votes:
  • Then yup, I'll put my hand up and admit I have. I try not to make a habit of it, and I always suffer for it, but I'd be lying if I said it never happened.
  • Are we talking booze or meal replacement shakes, or soups, or something else? Coz (d) all of the above.
  • Here in Australia all labels have the info per serving and per 100g/ml it makes it so much easier to really assess what you're buying and eating
  • I find that the amount of calories/kjs added by MFP or wearables for exercise is grossly overblown. I'm sure if I ate back everything my Samsung watch added, I'd stop losing all together! But I definitely eat some back and have success.
  • One of the best thing I ever did was completely do away with the idea of "breakfast foods". It's completely illogical. My current breakfast is tuna and cottage cheese. Some weeks I have roasted veggie medley with meatballs, or boiled eggs, or tuna patties. Some weeks I'll make a egg and veggie bake and have that.
  • Yup, takes a bit of hunting around, but it's rare that there isn't one there.
  • The carbs it tracks are total carbs (so including sugar and fibre), though some individual entries in the food database have been entered with net carbs, it might say that in the food name.
  • I personally don't track my water because I know I drink more than enough, but considering that the other day I saw a smart water bottle which connects to an app to monitor water consumption and remind its owner to drink, at the bargain price of $129 - there appear to be people who are VERY keen on motoring their intake!
  • I wrote this in my blog years ago, about 12 months into a period where I lost over 80lbs and felt and looked better than I ever have. Now, I then had life come up and kick me around, and I'm starting from right back where I was, but I still stand by this, and have gone back and re-read it often, while I get myself back…
  • I love that a 'serving' of Vlassic pickles is half a pickle - because half a pickle is under 5 cal, so they can legally round it down to 0 calories, and that's a good selling point. Makes it look like pickles are a 0 calorie food.
  • Snap, I've got a medium term goal of 40kg loss, but ultimately I need to lose just over 50kg to see a "healthy" BMI. I'm a volume eater too, so I load my plate with veggies. It's not unusual for me to have close to a lb of vegetables with dinner! I also keep my carbs on the law side and eat a hefty serve of protein with…
