I would watch your fat and sodium in your food. This applies esp. when you buy packaged foods. To borrow Jeff Novick's formula: no more than 20% of calories come from fat the ratio between sodium to calories should be 1 to 1 (it can be less but not more) I add this as I have seen posts suggest you eat packaged 'vegan'…

I believe you can eat soy in small quantities in foods such as miso soup but not processed soy that is found in the faux meats and the pure soy protein concentrate because of the insulin-like growth factor 1.

Have you ever seen a bird in the wild, so fat it couldn't fly? No, do you think it counts calories, probably not. =] If logging food is tough, then you should avoid refined, processed foods and foods like cheese, oils, meats and stick to foods like veggies and fruits. I promise you can eat as much veggies and fruits and…

Actually, Dr. Bernstein does say he can reverse diabetes. http://www.diabeteshealth.com/tv/play/79.html I am on his web site, reading away. Here is one testimonial (on his web site) http://www.diabetes-book.com/testimonials/testimonial53.shtml begin quote I eat bacon and eggs, steak, fish, plenty of vegetables and salad…

My blood sugars and my A1C and blood pressure--all my stats have been under control since I switched to a starch based diet, along with exercise and sleep. I do understand that some type 2 diabetics cannot control their blood sugar with diet and exercise alone. That is mainly due to their body's inability to regulate sugar…

That idiot, is a person that works for the State of Washington who got sick and tired of people saying potatoes are bad for you, and he showed otherwise. Also, Dr. McDougall promotes starches, has been for over 30 years and has clinical experiences, so I think you are the one who is not giving a low fat, high carb diet a…

Being or becoming a vegetarian or vegan means eating 10% or less of fat from calories, because foods like starches and veggies and fruit average out to about 7% fat intake. Eating foods rich in calories like honey and high in fat such as nuts and avocados are tolerated in moderation and considered a treat. Eating processed…

I am not cherry picking, I am reading what you posted.

If you look at my food diary, you will realize most of my foods are from carbs, starches and fruits and vegetables (veggies have very low carbs). So a low fat to me is under 10%-15% of fat from calories. I am not a body builder so around 15% from protein is more than adequate. Everything else comes from carbs: starches,…

Again, I repeat that when you eat unprocessed, foods from nature, you don't worry about insulin spikes. Sure, eating potatoes will raise your blood sugar, but that just means you are getting your calories/energy. Lets look at the white potato: GI: 69 http://www.glycemicindex.com/foodSearch.php?num=224&ak=detail Lets look…

BGL being 150 in the morning isn't bad, especially if you know that it is a "liver dump." I stopped eating at 7 pm and went for a 15-30 minute walk shortly after. It should help. Please consider not eating anything before bed.

If you have an iphone, the app shows you. Otherwise, pull out your calculator. Macro x number of calories per gram. so 5 grams of carbs is 20 calories. Total calories divided by your macro= your percentage of macro. If I ate 200 calories / 20 = 10% carbs

Here's a great video (short one) on turning vegetarian or vegan by The Cool Vegetarian, who asks McDougall 3 mistakes Vegetarians make. https://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=OF7Uanr-lYA&feature=fvwp

You told me that you don't eat gelatin but you choose to eat eggs. I implied that is very ironic because male chicks die for you to eat eggs but you say that is okay, but not okay to eat certain vitamins because it has gelatin, an animal by product. Then you said you don't eat animals. I told you that male chicks die as…

You can also eat gelatin as well, no death there.

I was a type 2 diabetic who took long lasting insulin, about 80 to 120 units a day with high blood pressure. I was a diabetic for about 5 to 6 years. That was about 2 years ago. I don't consider myself a diabetic because I eat right (starch-based with plenty of veggies and fruits), exercise and my blood work and tests came…

When chicks hatch, they say about half are male, half are female. Because "layer" chickens can only be female, the egg company "throws" away the male chicks. They don't sell or do anything with the male chicks. So, your demand for eggs forces the egg companies to separate the female chicks and kill the male ones. I am…

Here is a great video about a woman who had cancer, became a vegan and became an athlete. Ruth Heidrich, what a great inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1MOLnK6CfU

Yes, the egg companies won't even sell the male baby chicks because there is no profit, they just kill them and throw the baby chicks away. Here is another video, by the vegetarian society of Hawaii, a presentation dealing with eggs and dairy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyjOPzKc4vA

Spinach doesn't poop on itself. The argument, if you didn't realize, is that food preparation is not as good as you or others here might like it to be. Over half a billion eggs recalled, hard-boiled egg salads found with disease. If you bothered looking past that slide, you would see the owner of one of the egg companies…

I guess you didn't want to see that in order to get female chickens, the male baby chick is killed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN5H9audCRQ So, yes, you are killing animals for eggs.

quotes Sarauk2sf: "With regard to the listeria recalls. How does a couple of recalls of salads relate to there not being a healthy lacto ovo vegetarian? I don't eat cobb salad, or any salad with eggs in it, so I must be ok then. Its a little silly - there have been recalls of spinach before." Sept. 22, 2010 More than half…

A couple of recalls? Also, his 'research' is based of pubmed articles which he vets (they are published in peer reviewed journals), go to the links on his website, he lists all the research papers there. He doesn't make things up, he summarizes the research. But of course, you don't care to know that or don't know that.…

No dear, that equates to unhealthy people.

Hi, I really don't want to discuss something off-topic. However, since people feel the need to comment on it, here we go. Empirical evidence of how eggs do in your salads (when you buy them): http://www.fsis.usda.gov/News_&_Events/Recall_005_2012_Release/index.asp…

Instead of arguing with someone who tried to support the transition to a vegetarian lifestyle, why don't you supply links that will help the OP so others can politely disagree with your opinions.
