Nothing wrong with a smoothie assuming you're not putting bad stuff in it. If all the ingredients are good, then the final product is good. Like others have stated, if you find that you are still hungry, you might consider food over the smoothie but otherwise enjoy!

IMO you should tell him thanks for the advice that you shouldn't log what you eat (and calories) on MFP but you'll pass on that one. That way if he is an idiot, and you don't see reasonable results, you can take your business elsewhere. You need to know how many calories you're eating.

Polar is a good value. I have the FT4 and like it. I wouldn't buy a model that doesn't use a chest strap but that's just me. Suuanto is an excellent brand but costs more. I really like the Suuanto M5.
