  • For the week ending Oct. 7, Swim 2.14 miles Bike 44 miles Run 4 miles A good first week.
  • God idea, i'm in. Will check in weekly, but I did bike 15 miles today. V.
  • I wear compression shorts under my running shorts. They help a lot, they can be found at Target, not to expensive.
  • Try a cycling shirt, it might do the trick.
  • First, if you only started running in June you need at least a year of a good base, 10% increase in distance per week, to prepare. For now the best medicine is "RICE" rest, ice, compression, elevate. Don't mess with running or even walking if you are in pain. Second, checkout "Pain Free" by Peter Egoscue it is my bible for…
  • Don't worry about it, it does not happen every day. Keep some sort of snack with you in case you bonk out. At least once a week I have the same issue.
  • Don't beat yourself up. I found the same thing happened to me after a couple of months of no fast food burgers and fries. Have not returned for a little over six months. If I don't make my food the night before, I carry nuts, protein bar or cut veggies to take the edge off until I can find something that I will eat.. For…
  • I did a mud run last year. There were fun obstacles evenly spaced through out the event, the mud section was at the end and was the last obstacle in the race. Check out the races website to see the configuration for the race. (just looked at the site, looks like fun) Lastly, lots of people walk run races. Look at this as…
  • Isn't it funny how quickly momentum can change, and how you have to will yourself to stay on track. I thought I had my BG under some level of control < 100 for a little more than a week.. Then on Thursday, my fasting number was a spiked to 127. I indulged the night before in butternut squash enchiladas, too much food and…
  • It's terrific that you have managed to get under such good control. Unfortunately for me a 15 point swing during the day will make me dizzy, so I am working on that. I was diagnosed in December, with my fasting number at 187 and the 2 hour GT test number at 230. It has taken this long through testing and reading to start…
  • Knowing what we know, point her a good web site to help prepare her for her doctors visit. The sooner she can get in control, even if it is only a scare, the better. I would absolutely freak out if my after dinner number was 180. I have work hard at my weight, diet and exercise. This morning my fasting BG number was 99…
  • I understand I was crippled by the pain off and on for a few years. Look up the Gout haters cookbook. I followed it religiously for six months, which also got my weight down. I have not had a problem since.
  • Don't get caught up in the posts that will follow. If you are hungry eat, if not don't. Obviously if you are not feeling well start eating more during the day so that you keep your energy up and continue to get to your goal. V.
  • I'm in the same boat, sorry.
  • You are doing great keep it up.
  • I found Pete Egoscue years ago, and saved my life. He has written a book called pain free. He has other sport specific books as well. Look him up, I find when I have a pain pop up, he gets me back in the game sooner than, to if I try to fix imyself. I am off to the gym today is swim bike day.
  • I do vinyasa (Power Yoga) at my size 6-2 215 I do burn 900+ calories in a 1-1/2 hour practice. Good luck, with time Yoga has become the best part of my day.

  • If you can walk the distance, give it a try. There is no rule that says you have to run all or any part of a 5k. Use it as a social outing.
  • Great comment.
  • I started yoga last year when I was pushing 290, I am around 210 now. I believe most of my weight loss, strength and flexibility comes from my practice. Do what you can do and take your time learning. You will notice the difference as you improve. V.
  • Once you know what size bike fits you best, try Bikesdirect.com they have a good reputation for good bikes at a reasonable price.
  • I like the idea of a netbook as a second PC. You may be able to get by if you are only using it for browsing, email and can use something like Google docs as your word processor and spreadsheet program. Go to http://reviews.cnet.com/best-netbooks/?tag=revCatWrap For an overview on function and rating. V.

  • Good for your, you have done your research. I am on Metformin but have been working my numbers down, weight, exercise and diet. If I continue the way I am going I hope to be off the meds soon. Don't be pressured into the meds if you are getting yourself into control without them. As far as the test strips go, I mostly…
  • Go see your doctor. Take your food and exercise log with you. It sounds like you need to have your meds adjusted. Take care,
  • I am also looking for a retreat, 3 -4 day. I go to 24hour for my classes but the idea of immersing in a retreat sounds great. Anyone been to a retreat? If so, which one and what did you think about it?
  • It sucks, I felt the same way when I was diagnosed last November. I even made the doctor test me three different times because I did not believe him. I am diabetic, it is for life, I still kick myself occasionally even though my family history is prone to this illlness. The choices are many, do nothing, be depressed, get…
  • I hear you, and am kind of in the same place. Keep with it the alternative is no fun. V.
  • NSV - I have been doing yoga off and on for the last few years but have only been consistent with my practice for about six months. That said, for the first time I was able to do a wheel pose and hold it.. Big smile. My best part of the week is when I can practice, 4x's a week or am in the water swimming or surfing. At 53…
  • Sounds great thanks
