  • After two years of asthma problems and then a herniated disk, I managed to go almost all the way back up the roller coaster. I've been trying to get back on the wagon, but my post-menopausal metabolism was not participating. My doctor prescribed Saxenda and I've been using it for one week. I've lost 6 pounds without…

  • That's just not true. You don't have to be a world class athlete, but no weight loss routine is complete without exercise.
  • I can't even imagine why this is a question, or do you not have to get up to pee in the middle of the night?
  • i was very successful just using the numbers that fitness pal offers and ignoring the point by point accuracy as irrelevant. A few thoughts on exercise: As tempting as it is, don't exercise every day. Take off one day a week. You need the recovery. If you can't do that to keep your momentum use that as a yoga day. Which…
  • I'm healthier and more confident. I'm now the one who uses the steps instead of the elevator and parks in the farthest spot from the mall entrance. I have to admit shopping is much harder. Too many choices!
  • Don't think of exercise as something you "have" to do, think of it as something you "get" to do. I used to dread my workouts. I changed my schedule and how I approach it and now it's the best part of my day. I find myself thinking about my next routine, especially when I don't feel like working (like now). Make sure that…
  • I've tried freezing Greek yogurt. You end up with a solid lump. I love frozen bananas and grapes though. They really are a wonderful frozen treat with no guilt.
  • I make an omelette with scallions, carrots, mushrooms, and parsley. Sometimes I'll add broccoli too. I start it all with just enough butter so it doesn't all stick.

  • I just need to vent and this seems like a good place to do it. The Bruster's ice cream truck parked itself in our parking lot and is giving away free bowls of ice cream!. Ok. So I'm good. I just had a nice breakfast - mushroom omelet and tomato. It's the fifteen times (so far) I've had to say to "well meaning" coworkers.…
  • I will usually order either the dinner salad (dressing on the side) or I'll go with a grilled or broiled fish and veggies. Skip the bread. Skip dessert or do something light like a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. When I go to the Chinese restaurant I ask for the take home box up front and just pack up half my meal…
  • I am gluten, nut, seed, and fat free because of health issues. So, no, I refuse to give up any of what's left.
  • This site needs a "like" button!
  • Excellent! The first day's the hardest. It gets easier. It really does.
  • I'm a daily weigh-er. My husband weighs himself "occasionally". I know I've lost about 45 pounds (or between 43 and 45 depending on whether I count yesterday or today. I had a big event yesterday) . He, on the other hand, thinks he's lost a half pound this month. I wonder how he explains the baggy pants to himself?
  • I'm 56 and feeling 10 years younger than I did 10 years ago! I went through the last decade getting older and sicker and more miserable by the day. Now I'm young and healthy and struttin' my stuff down the street. I've even turned a few heads (older heads, but still). Feels great! Hard work, but worth it and for life.
  • At 5'6" and 135 pounds, you should communicate with your doctor. That's a perfectly healthy weight. Actually, i would cry tears of joy if I could get there some day.
  • You do it with lots of veggies and a few low cal snacks ( i have a half cup of Corn Chex when I get home from work). Also, let yourself go once in awhile. It's easier for me to do 1200 calories Monday if I had wine and dessert on Saturday night. But don't forget to journal that too. It's the journey, not the day.
  • You sound like me just a few months ago! Take it one day at a time. Get OCD about the app and let yourself get addicted to your own endorphins. Once you start to feel better and feel better about yourself it will just feed on itself. And when you go to a party? Just put it away that day and enjoy. You'll find you don't…
  • I found eating gluten free in London was easier than at home. Just tell the hostess you're Celiac. They sent a food guide to my table to help me order in London. Hopefully you'll find the same in Paris.

  • Can't eat seeds and nuts either so a lot of the flours are out for me. The one lesson that was most important was, when you do buy the GF junk food stay away from just rice flour (and Kinkkinik generally - worst excuse for a donut e-ver) Glutino, Aleia, Schar, Udi's are the best. And for my fellow Jews - Udi's bagels are…

  • I know that really sucks. I'm fortunate that my husband is very careful, but restaurants often just don't get it. This will pass, and you will feel better. Drink lots of whatever you enjoy drinking.
  • One of my coworkers said something like that to me after I had only lost 10 pounds. I was still in the obese range! I'm sure she thought she was being nice, but it was so obviously inappropriate it had the opposite effect.
  • I've taken the "never ask" so far that I had a coworker who was 7 months pregnant before I realized. She said "you couldn't tell?" I said, "well, I didn't want to say anything..." Not quite as awkward.
  • Depends. If it's a side dish with a protein it's a mix of greens, celery, carrots and tomato. If it's dinner I also add hard boiled egg, chicken (I use the Perdue Short Cuts), hard cheese and bacon.
  • Forget Kinnikinnik. Go with Glutino. Much better. Just watch your servings. Gluten free baked goods tend to be denser and higher in calories than their glutinous cousins. I've been gluten, nut and seed free for a couple of years now. I feel soooo much better. It's tough at first but then you realize that it's worth it and…
  • I always leave myself enough calories for a couple of cookies. The trick is to take one serving and put the bag away.
