An avocado is ripe when you can gently press your thumb into it and feel it give. I have wrecked many an avocado by being impatient and trying to eat them before they were ripe. IF you cut into an avocado too early, re-close it and put it in a brown paper sack on the top of the fridge for a day or two--this can help them…

Wow, you look amazing! And beautiful!

The Greek Gods, Plain nonfat or traditional is the best. I add some blueberries. I hate how sweet most yogurts are and never buy flavored.

Thin slices of bell peppers Thin celery sticks I often cut items very thinly so that I can snack while I work--and the thin strips of vegies tricks my brain into thinking I have a whole bunch of food. I also have thin slices of apples or pears. If it's protein I eat almond, sometimes I slice them in half too---and eat them…

Hi, I'm 56. We improve our diets and exercise not just for weight loss for our longterm health. I swim, bike, workout at the gym, take Pilates and yoga [and run when I'm not injured]---and love it all. Good quality food tastes great and makes me feel good in addition to helping me maintain a sensible weight. When I go back…

HI, I think it is important not to go over on fat and cholesterol. Sugar is more complicated. I wish MFP had a separate section for fruit. I don't overdo it on fruit, I usually eat 1/4 cup of blueberries and one apple or pear a day---I think the benefits of real, organic, whole fruit outweigh the sugar---but 2 pieces of…

Hi, There is a free online link on Runner's World for moms....I remember a bunch of posts on this issue. Here are some of my ideas: 1) Make it fun by running somewhere the kids would like to go--the park, the zoo, a library 2) Make it fun by playing a game of "who can see a red car?" " A cat in the window?" "Pink roses?"…

Please go. Here's the thing: 1) No one is looking at you and if they are: 2) the very heavy women and men I see at my gym or running on the trails fill me with a sense of awe and admiration 3) Another way to begin to ease into working out is to go to the pool---pool walk or swim or pool run--they are great workouts and put…

Breathe in, breathe out. Here's an idea, stop thinking about "losing weight" and just begin by tracking your food and keeping a journal [5 minutes a day] with no judgement. Start your day with a high-protein breakfast [I like real food: eggs, Greek yogurt, almond butter on rice bread/toast]. Eat breakfast early, what works…

Hi, I love swimming! For years I've been a runner, hiker, walker--and was afraid of deep water and couldn't swim. Last summer I began lessons--and now, at 56, I am a swimmer! Just in time to help me heal from a leg injury that prevents me from running, hiking and walking. I find that swimming is a good workout--I think MFP…

This is where I believe that the quality of calories is so important---that is the benefits of avocados "outweighs" the negatives. Of course all things in moderation---if I have to trade off some less nutritious calories to eat my beloved organic avocados-- I do it!

1/2 cup of Greek Gods yogurt with blueberries and 5 walnuts. Yum! A slice of Ezekial Raisin Bread with a teaspoon of almond butter. Breakfast is my favorite!

I have run thousands of miles alone [training for 30 marathons] and only felt afraid of a person [some men in a car who threatened me] but I have had some very frightening encounters with dogs [who frighten me far more than most people] and several amazing encounters with other animals including bears, moose [during a…

I just made my snacks for the day---I prep them ahead so they are there whenever I need them: *thinly sliced baby bell peppers *thinly sliced carrots * thinly sliced celery * roasted pumpkin seeds That's for today....sometimes I add almond butter or thinly sliced low-fat mozzarella. I slice everything very thinly because…

For me the "cure" is more protein---lots of protein first thing in the morning [even, especially if I don't feel like it]. Protein seems to cut the craving for all kinds of junk. Also protein snacks throughout the day--I make them ahead of time so they are ready when the feeling starts. I also finding writing a journal…

My view is beautiful mountain streams and snowy peaks and budding trees. Go hike---great exercise, wonderful for the spirit!

--Good Quality Calories [organic, whole foods, not processed] --Cut way back on carbs [wheat, corn, potatoes....] --Lots of healthy protein for breakfast [eggs, lean turkey bacon] -Frequent high protein, high quality snacks throughout the day -Recording food daily --weighing in daily [but not recording the weight changes…

When I was running 5 marathons a year people who wouldn't run a mile a week would say, "I could do that IF I had the time." I was a fulltime teacher, fulltime single mom and volunteered. You don't "Find" the time, you "Make" the time. I always asked just one question: Do you watch TV? If they watched TV I said, "Well you…

I eat the whole egg---the healthiest kind I can buy. But I only eat a few eggs a week.

I like almonds, walnuts or---sunflower seeds or even better, pumpkin seeds.

Every morning I cut up very thin slices of: *carrots, celery, baby bell peppers [add cukes when they are in season. I make baggies of walnuts or almonds [again, I cut them up so that I can eat them one by one, sometimes putting them next to me at my desk]. A thermos of green tea [I like mine with pomegranate] to sip all…

You look stunning!

Incredible!! Congrats!

Hi, I eat about half the suggested carb on MFP. I am very athletic and try to get my calories from natural, less-processed foods. I don't have a specific diet plan to suggest but can tell you that cutting: *wheat *potatoes *corn from my diet has made me feel much better, healthier and stronger. I let myself have some of…

Hi, When I started running I did it at 6 a.m. in the near-dark, silly me! Now that I've run many years, many marathons---I realize, NO ONE IS WATCHING YOU! Or if they are, they are in awe, amazed and proud of you for getting out there. The idea that people are watching or care is an excuse....and probably old junior high…

Hi, I eat very few processed foods--and have done this for years. Really, it is much easier than most people think. As for cooking, I often steam vegies in minutes---not hard, delicious and healthy. Go for it!

You have my best wishes. I think very gentle walking on a treadmill--where you can hold onto the rails--is good until you get more stable. Also walking gently in water is great exercise without being harsh. A therapeutic yoga class can be good--be sure the teacher is understanding of what you can and can't do. Even laying…

Eat Protein early and often throughout the day. Don't bring evil foods into the house [you know which ones]---ever! IF you binge, forgive yourself, tomorrow start anew. Good luck!
-
Good start. In terms of the treadmill---you can walk slowly until you are used doing it. Then gradually up your speed and tilt. If you increase your time on the treadmill just by 5 minutes a couple days a week you will see a difference. Also pool walking [wear a water vest and "walk" in the deep water] is a very good,…
