  • I've run 30 marathons....and the best advice I got before I ever ran a step---the first mile is always the hardest. I say, leave the music at home. Find a nice shady park and walk a few steps, run a few steps, walk a few, run a few. Each day add a little more running. If running is for you, you will soon love it. You can…
  • Sending you a ton of Good luck! I wanted to suggest you try water running or walking--you can use an aqua vest to hold you aloft or simply walk the laps in the pool. It is great exercise with no pressure on the joints---and then when you lose some weight--you will be ready to walk on soft grass or a level track. Also…
  • Oh I had to laugh and almost cry----I was a teacher for a long time. The first year almost killed me--so many baked goodies! My tip----run them into the teacher's room and then don't go back for the rest of the day! At the holidays I would wrap everything and take it to the homeless--my best way to do this, approach a…
  • It is sad to see the scale go up---but keep running. You like it and it sounds like you found a nice group to run with. Give it some time and give yourself some love for getting out there and trying. Let us know in a month--I bet those tears will have turned to smiles because running will be your friend in this lifestyle…
  • Hey Jake, I a m for real and try to post my honest thoughts here. I'm glad if you find that it is food causing you problems and get rid of that food. Good luck!

  • Wow--I made these this morning from your recipe using almond flour. I added a little bacon and onion......they are so tasty! One tip, I was too inpatient to let the cream cheese soften--I don't suggest this. Thanks!
  • HI, Let us know what you find out. My cholesterol soared after 3 months eating High Fat/Low carb----the first time in my life that it has been high and/or a problem. My doctor suggested whatever I'm doing I stop......now I'm trying to just eat high vegetable fat [olive oil]....but am confused and nervous about it but still…
  • For real support check out the low carb groups---the general board is not very supportive of low carb. I have had great luck with organic, low carb. It took me a long time to get over the fat thing---but I have had tremendous health and weight results with eating higher, healthy fats. Experiment and see what works for you.…
  • Cut carbs. Try 16/8 fasting for yourself before dismissing it. Be open-minded. Find an exercise you love. Love yourself!
  • Are you a woman, over 50? Welcome to my world! The good news is that when it is very cold--I am my own personal heater. Again, if you are a woman over 50 I suggest these supplements: primrose oil and Phase II. If you are a guy or younger woman---get yourself to the doctor and let them figure it out. Good luck!
  • Yes, like Chia Pet----this is the seed that grows that grass "hair." Travel: I take cheese slices, walnuts on the plane. I try to stay places where I can cook or at least have a fridge for all the same foods I eat at home. Good luck!
  • Hi, I appreciate your response but want to clarify some things... for the past 2 months I have been eating more fat than protein and low carb [under 20]. I ate coconut oil, butter and other healthy fats. I ate chicken thighs, bacon and other fatty, grass-fed meats and goat cheeses. I did quite a bit of research on this…
  • Hi, I've been experimenting with this too and getting good results. It seems pretty easy to do--I don't feel hungry at all.
  • Just call me a special little snowflake too!
  • Hi, Please join our 5:2 Diet---it is great, supportive and filled with ideas. On the main site you will get a lot of guff over this choice. I've had great luck with this way of eating, am very athletic and find this easy to do and supports my goals. Good luck!
  • What a hoot---I mean, all my running friends are so envious of my tidy little chest because I can run without pain or bouncing and fit into running bras without getting into a major contortion.......I love my build, perfect for running--- but to each her own!
  • I love the fresh air, clear thinking, creative ideas, the birds flying in a V over my head, the mountains snowy in the distance, the ice breaking on the reservoir---the freedom of moving on my own.
  • Just one idea, sometimes we eat lots of carbs to swallow whatever sorrows we suffer from---when you stop comfort eating those emotions show up and demand attention......this may not apply to you, but it does for a lot of emotional eaters [who mostly eat carbs]. How can you deal with those blues---face your problems and…
  • I love it! Why not try it? I think each person has to find the style of eating [for life] that works for him/her. Good luck! By the way, there are some wonderful MFP groups dedicated to 5:2.
  • BRAVO! Great story and amazing photos!
  • Here's my go-to meal for dining out--no matter the type of place. I order a big salad with a chicken breast and cheese on top. It is satisfying. For me, that's just me, when I eat pasta I gain weight--so I don't--and I don't miss it. Good luck.
  • I am a serious athlete and eat low carb, high protein and high fat---it works well for me. For after swimming, I bring a little baggie of pumpkin seeds, pecans and walnuts [about 3 carbs], or some slices of cheese, or a healthy turkey jerky stick. Good luck.
  • First, be gentle with yourself----preemie twins and 3 other kids---that's a lot to juggle. Here is what I did to cut my lifelong sugar cravings to zero---this worked for me, there will be people on this list who trash the idea---but I tried it out of desperation. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't---but you have nothing to…
  • YES---they are worth it. I usually pay around $100 but I look for sales everywhere and have found my Asics $20-30 off all kinds of amazing place including Amazon, Zappos, REI and all the sports stores at the end of year [I don't mind if my model is last year's]. Running in poor shoes or shoes not made for running is not…
  • Hi, I cut out most added sugars and feel 100% better---I've tried this before [chocolate is my downfall] and couldn't do it---but I did it this time in conjunction with cutting grains [all breads for starters] and starchy vegies [like potatoes] and that seemed to help. Just one idea-- Good luck!
  • You can do it! I too was a good athlete---a runner--and gained some weight after an illness that didn't allow me to run [or barely walk]. I'm running slowly now, building up. I lift very light weights. I ride the stationary bike daily for 45 minutes. I will never be able to run as fast or far as I once did---but I feel…
  • Hi, Please take any suggestions from Running Stores with a huge grain of salt---some just want to push a shoe, sell a shoe or are so attached to a favorite that they can't think beyond them. Some running stores are better than others. I suggest Asics cushioned shoes. Get running shoes, not shoes made for anything else.…
  • I drink it all morning. I like: Yogi Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut, Yogi Classic Indian Spice, Yogi Green Tea Blueberry and Celestial Seasons--Sweet Harvest Pumpkin and Gingerbread Spice [both of these are only available this time of the year and often on sale right now] Sometimes I add just a smidgen of almond milk or [big…
  • Do you breastfeed? No judgement, but it helps drop the weight and is great for the baby.....
